As always the best experience at wonderful beachfront hotel and restaurant. Only an hour south of the border, but it feels worlds away. We’ve been coming for over a decade and will continue to come here for every Mexican getaway. Cheryl the owner, Lourdes and all the staff, including Oscar at the restaurant, are always the best hosts and make every visit memorable.

We happened to come across Poco Cielo after a day trip to La Fonda and decided to stay the night to check it out...we loved it! Staff was super friendly and helpful. They let me check out the themed rooms before booking and we choose the Western room. Super nice. We like it so much we booked a return trip with our 2 kids and stayed over Thanksgiving since my normal 40 person dinner was now down to us 4. It was perfect. Our covid Thanksgiving was a pleasurable one and may become a new tradition for us!

Excellent place. Very original room. Attention and kindness. Spectacular view. Good access to the beach. Restaurant and bar with live music. Hot water and wifi always. The rooms are thematic. I stayed in the Medieval. And it's like being in a castle room

This "little bit of heaven" is nice but DO NOT let your guard down. You are still in a different country! We stayed in the Mexican Room on 6/17 & 6/18/2021 and the room was robbed of a laptop, a substantial sum of cash, personal belongings, our passports, etc. The balcony and bedroom windows are easily accessible from the rooftop where either burglars from adjacent properties can easily access your room, or hotel & restaurant staff are aware of this and will not hesitate to rob you of all your positions.

Coincidentally, the only portions of the property that are not captured by security cameras are the Mexican and Polynesian rooms. Not sure about the other rooms as these 2 rooms are separate and located right above the front desk. Interestingly enough, the front office personnel had to "leave for an emergency" at the exact time our room was being robbed. I hate to speculate so I will leave the conclusion up to you.

It probably goes without saying but we absolutely will not be back. This is unfortunate as we were beginning to fall in love with the La Fonda area but there are too many other nice places in Baja and the US to choose from which are much safer.

I could have chosen an American-style resort over this quirky beachfront hotel when I came to the Rosarito area for a destination wedding. But I wanted to know I was in Mexico. From the moment I crossed the bougainvillea-draped threshold and settled on the patio for my welcome margarita, I knew I'd crossed the border. Up in my huge third-floor room with vaulted ceiling, I opened the doors to my private ocean-view balcony and let the salt breeze drift in--as I had to, because there was no A/C and the ceiling fan was a work in progress. I requested an electric fan; one appeared the next day. That first night I listened to the surf and discovered that there's more to a good sleep than a cool room.

Expect the Holiday Inn and you'll be disappointed. Poco Cielo feels to me like a hideaway that time forgot, which is why I relaxed right away despite the hot room and useless WiFi. The staff treat you almost like family; the ceviche's terrific. (A beach view and a sunset do a lot for ceviche, but this one would pass the test anywhere.) Cheryl, the Canadian owner, guided me through the logistics of getting to and from San Diego without a car (yes, it's doable) and is a font of information on the area. Ask about winery tours--she can arrange one.

Despite its rough edges, Poco Cielo will be my choice if I ever come back this way. And I should add that other wedding guests happily transfered here from bigger, seemingly glossier places. Prices might seem a tad high by American standards (unlike food prices, which are low), but they're not out of line for the area.

Tip: This is a cash economy. Quite a few establishments don't accept credit cards. At those that do--including Poco Cielo--you'll pay a surcharge for using your card. Don't expect to find ATMs everywhere. So bring a full wallet.

We used to frequent La Fonda when it was small and funky. Poco Cielo now fills the bill. With some trepidation we returned to Baja and the La Mision area to try Poco Cielo. We were rewarded with gracious and friendly workers, terrific views, good food, and a comfortable and clean room. We'll be back. The rooms are themed. We stayed in the "Mexican" room. It's about 400 square feet with a bedroom and separate sitting area with wet bar. The balcony overlooks the neighbor's roof but the ocean can be seen. The main building houses the Polynesian room (large, sunny with walls of glass overlooking the ocean) and the Mexican room upstairs with the Medieval Room on the first floor. Next door is the African room and Captains room, both with ocean views and a large patio. North of that are the Asian Room, Moroccan Room and the "Cabin". Those rooms seem suited to couples. The restaurant served good food with great views of the ocean. A security guard sits outside all night to watch your cars. La Fonda next door plays loud live music on Saturdays. That raucousness is par for Rosarito but felt out of place for La Mision. For you fans of old La Fonda when Dimitri ran the joint do yourself a favor and check out Poco Cielo.

Planned a one night stay, based on the reviews, for our drive back up Baja to the US. Walked in and loved the place. We had booked the Polynesian Room (the biggest and most expensive room). The room was very large and had a view that has no rival. We dropped our luggage and went out for the day. Upon our return, we stopped at the restaurant to eat. The food was delicious and the service was great.

Then, at 10pm we went to our room to unwind and go to sleep. Let the nightmare begin. Very few of the lights in the room worked; and there were very few lights to begin with. There was no TV or phone. Went to take a shower in the cave like bathroom and found that there was no hot water; that after leaving it run for 30 minutes. The room was cold as it was 46 degrees outside, so we went to the front desk to inquire about the heat. We were informed that the room had no heater or a/c and we should use plenty blankets for the night. I froze all night and got absolutely no sleep. The room was not very clean, some of the blinds on the windows were broke and laying on the floor and the bedroom was exposed to the world whenever you had a light on. The plumbing for the shower/toilet, was not vented properly and the sewer gases would back up every time you flushed. Imagine the smell.

We went to check out shortly after the sun rose, only to find that the front desk was not monitored. Banging the service bell, the manager came out in his pajamas to assist us. Wanting to pay in cash, he could not find out our total as the restaurant personel had not turned in their receipts from the night before. Calling the restaurant manager at home, we came to a final price. Surprise, the hotel had no change to accept cash. We were forced to put the bill on our Visa; and they charged us six percent for the luxury.

The room is overpriced even if everything was ok. I will never stay at this place again and warn all that do that they are in for a shock.

We recently took a short vacation to Rosarito Mexico and my wife handle the hotel booking at Poco Cielo originally she was quoted a price but when she called to confirm the reservation she was told that they gave her the wrong price and that now the price would go up because it was towards the holidays ,I thought it a was pricey my wife was set on going to this place so she went for it. When we got there this hotel is not in Rosarito but instead is 25 min south of Rosarito in a small community called Alisito and we were not told that they charge a hefty 10 % for using a debit card. The hotel has like 4 units and we were the only ones there the whole time the room had a nice ocean view but be ware of the so called theme rooms I really do not think is worth paying just for a tittle room, the staff was very friendly and the place was ok. The Hotel restaurant and its staff were great but after a few days we decided to try a Hotel next door and it had a nice ocean view for far less money.

Located about an hour drive south of the San Diego border, Poco Cielo is easily accessible via the toll road, or, if you have time, you can take the free road. It is located in a nice little town between Rosarito and Ensenada.

It is a small hotel, but it has a lot of character with rooms decorated with different themes. The owner and the staff are very sweet and gave great advice on seeing the area. We stayed in the Polynesian room for only a few days, but I wish it could have been much longer. It was really fantastic, with tropical murals painted on the walls, practically a 180 degree view of the beach. What is better than waking up to see a spectacular view of the ocean? The room has a bar area with a sink, microwave, and refrigerator, which were really handy. The bathroom has really beautiful stonework and a large shower. There is also a fireplace and you can buy the easy to light logs downstairs in reception. That was a great end of the day, to bring your margarita upstairs and sit by the fire. The private patio was great also, we brought our drinks upstairs and watched the sun set.

The restaurant. Oh, the restaurant. I had planned to try out the food at a couple different places but very quickly changed my plans. The food was AMAZING!!! We got the popotla fish which was in a white sauce with shrimp and it was astounding. We also got the smoked chipotle orange shrimp which was very good as well. In addition, we had the lobster as well as the anise and tequila clams, both great. For breakfast, we had the homemade apple sausage and the Poco Cielo supreme omelet, and both were wonderful. We left completely stuffed but wanting more. The margaritas are fantastic too!

The area of La Mision is really quaint, but beautiful. I thought it was the most picturesque part of the area along the coast, with small beaches with beautiful views. There are mostly houses in the area, which makes it less crowded as well. We drove down to the main La Mision beach and rented horses to ride along the beach. It was a great deal, for $10 for a half hour for each horse, plus, the kids who are your guides are really funny and like to do tricks as they ride. I highly recommend going right around sunset, it was really beautiful.

So, if you are looking for an amazing little getaway with great food that isn't one of those boring cookie cutter resorts, I highly recommend the place. I sure can't wait to go back!!!

The nice: We rented the Roman room which is quite large with beautiful tile work with two queen beds. It has a patio area and great ocean views. We were part of a large private party and the food was good and drinks flowed. The chorizo omelette the next day was excellent. The staff was friendly.

The not so nice: When we got there neither the front door or sliding glass door to the patio worked. They had to call in a maintenance guy from off-site to fix. We were there for Sat. and Sunday night and never got the beds made or fresh towels;
Had to hunt some down ourselves. No tv in room.

We had a good time there but place is a little quirky.

Everything about Poco Cielo is top notch, excellent service, family friendly, pets welcome, excellent food and drinks. You would be hard pressed to find a better place to stay in the Rosarito area.
