So many flaws to what could have been a lovely place to stay. Overall positives/negatives at end of review... Arrival: We were told that if we didn’t arrive by 8pm there’d be an additional charge of €20. Despite notifying them in advance that our bus didn’t arrive in until 7.45pm. We rushed as quick as we could to get there before. Location: The place is fairly easy to get to with phone navigation however nothing is signposted or labelled so you’re unaware and unsure if you’re at all in the right place. None of the adjacent restaurants are aware of the property either. The room is situated a couple of streets and a bridge away from grand canal so is not a bad location but I’d advise to stay elsewhere. Room & Charges: We eventually was met by a guy called Fernando who isn’t staff of the property but delivers keys and exchanges on their behalves. We got inside the property and saw there was no balcony (there were metal bars on the windows), no flat screen television as advertised, no lockers as advertised. He said we would need to raise this with the property directly. Despite already having cleaning fees and city tax paid prior to arrival on booking, he demanded €54 euro. €30 for cleaning and €24 euro for City tax which had gone up from €3 per person per night to €4. Not having anywhere else to stay and the threat of not being given the keys we were forced to pay this. We were told cleaning would take place between 10 and 11am. The room was an ample size for two people any more and I think it would have been stuffy. FYI we booked the triple room. The air conditioning worked well but none of the main lights worked so we had to continually leave the small light on in the corner or we would have been in complete darkness arriving and getting in the room at night. I don’t know if there was a hoard of mosquitos or if it was bed bugs but we are covered in bites. No mosquito net as advertised is provided. The room is also covered in damp with spotting around the plugs and evidenced painting over damp as oppose to treatment. Broken lock: The keys we were given fit our door only, we were given a snapped key for the broken front door. Not feeling safe at all. We went to go out around mid day on day 2 and found someone fixing the lock on the front door. They did not speak English. I messaged Fernando who said someone would be around at 7pm to give us a key. We waited at 7pm for the key with no luck and messaged him again. Meanwhile the property messaged to notify us that someone would be leaving a key on the windowsill next to the door for us. Again very unsafe. We decided to wait for the key out of fear for not being able to get in or someone claiming it in our absence. Breakfast: We were given breakfast vouchers, not an in house breakfast as advertised. Each morning we had to walk down the street and over a bridge to a small cafe for what was termed as breakfast. You were allowed one hot drink, no cold drinks and 1 pastry each (a doughnut or a croissant). Certainly not the buffet breakfast advertised. We were also told by the restaurant that it opens at 6am, having to leave early on our last day this excited us however we arrived to a closed shop and had to purchase food at the airport. The staff at the cafe were lovely but certainly not what was sold. Cleaning (there is no cleaning): Although the room was covered in cobwebs we were hopeful these would be cleaned by the cleaners so tried to ignore them our first night. We tried to shower in the morning with no shower handle (having to hold it with one hand over head) with the hot water only lasting for 1 shower (bearing in mind I spend no longer than 3 minutes in the shower). My partner had to shower in the cold. Our towels were not changed nor was the room cleaned that day despite paying for it. We enquired this with the property who said that they could not provide a cleaning service because they were a hotel only and that the fees were for other services despite the charge being listed as cleaning. If other services were provided I’d somewhat understand but they were not. Our room wasn’t cleaned for the entire duration of our stay nor were our complaints rectified. Overall positives: location, air conditioning Overall negatives: hidden charges, bugs, no cleaning, broken or missing items, limited and distant breakfast, damp room, broken lights, cold shower, no signposting/assistance for complaints
