Ive been dreading putting this review on , as i was so looking forward to my stay there. As huge fans of the British horror film The Wicker Man.....we were both really excited to stay here during our road trip around Scotland. It is true to say that The Ellangowan hasnt essentially changed too much from the 1970's as has... More

Would-be diners beware! I came here with my partner for a restaurant meal (we hoped) and an overnight stay. The website advertises its restaurant. However when we arrived we were told it was closed, with no explanation why. They were only serving bar food, and only until 8. I thought it might be a one-off, maybe a staff member was... More

I stayed at the pub/ hotel in early September with 2 friends and after reading the mostly negative views, had low expectations. The main reason for the stay was to cross off a location for The Wicker Man film. The negatives were that the room desperately needed a revamp and the lack of imagination to cash in on the most... Normally I would have stayed in Newton Stewart as it is a bit closer to where I go when visiting the area. This was the only hotel with accommodation available and having read some of the reviews I booked with a sense of trepidation. However, yes the facilities are a little shabby and in need of considerable investment, but the... More

Went there for a holiday and the room was a state roof leaking with marks down the wall unsafe floorboards, dirty Windows and something hanging from the guttering which was not very welcoming as well as a fly in the breakfast and mouldy toast Definitely won't be back as it spoiled our stay

Booked here after discovering that Newton Stewart appeared to be full. How can this be? Then looked at Trip Advisor and saw the single stars for this hotel which in my view are not entirely justified: for a start it only cost us £35 per head, for that you do not get the Ritz. The rooms were largely clean, the... More

Shabby, grubby looking, rusty, ancient bathroom shower I would never use, piles of laundry by front door, the worst of decor. The hotel stank of cigarettes including our room so there was no way we could sleep in there. There was no food that evening with no prior notice despite having advertised their restaurant. We took one look and fled... More
