Staying in self catering close by and noticed this nice little pub on the road to Buxton. Good choice on standard menu if a little pricey compared other similar places we ate in. We chose of the specials board and enjoyed a lovely venison casserole. Staff pleasant and helpful. Decor getting a little tired and needs upgraded and brightened. Would...

Not very busy. Ordered steak sandwich got a steak and chips. Ordered fish finger sandwich without tartar sauce - it was smothered in it. Asked for French mustard - never received. No steak knife for my incorrect meal. 50minute wait. Over priced. Won't be going back.

This was our first visit with the new owners and it will be our last. Order was taken quickly and for the drinks to arrive but from there it went downhill. Really long wait for the food and no one really enjoyed their meals for numerous various reasons Staff pleasant however

Had heard mixed reviews so decided to try myself. Sat down and perused the menu. Plenty of choice. Barmaid came across to take our drinks order - nice friendly welcome. Returned with drinks and took our food order. Twenty-five minutes later it arrived - nicely presented and great tasting. Afterwards ordered a dessert and almost as long a delay to...

Apparently the fish is fresh?! Well it may be but the chef doesn't appreciate that. A friend and I both ordered fish and chips recently and it was the worse thing I have ever tried. The batter was burnt, the fish was solid and pretty much non existent. The chef apparently blamed a new batter. Why the hell don't they...

Not sure why it is promoted as bands as lovely pub. Stayed with family last night. Great room, friendly staff and food was ok. Not sure about battered chips. Slightly pricey as breakfast was not included but nevertheless a great Stay with good walks all around

Plenty of parking, decent food in the pub downstairs, good views and quiet at night. The twin room is of medium size and includes two single beds with individual bedside lamps, a hairdryer, bible, vanity table (stool, mirror, power sockets), a wardrobe, and towels. One of the beds sounds like it needs replacing, serious creaking noises. Only one pair of...

3rd visit to the ShadyOak and 3rd high rating. This time it was Good Friday and a nice sunny afternoon. We'd been up in the hills and decided on lunch. I had the scampi and Lorraine the lasagne. The lasagne looked and tasted great and came with salad and garlic bread. I boringly chose scampi. I haven't had scampi for...
