The staff and management at this hotel were helpful and delightful, the view from the rooms is lovely, the beds were good and the linens and towels were clean. If not for these things I would rate it much lower.

We booked this hotel based in part on the description of their beach, "Located on a spectacular snorkeling beach". This is, to put it plainly, not true. We never got to test the "spectacular snorkeling" part of this claim because there is no way to get into the water. The beach, which is next door, (not actually at the hotel, so you will not stroll out of your room and down to a sandy beach), is broad and well stocked with lounge chairs which are always available because few people use the beach. Unfortunately the sea floor is rocky and there is a jumble of large stones and concrete slabs 20 feet offshore all the way down the beach, making it impossible to get into the water to swim. To enjoy a day at the beach we had to drive to one of the many public beaches around the island.

The hotel itself needs a bit of upkeep. One bedside lamp in our room could not be switched off as the switch was frozen in the on position. We pointed this out to housekeeping and she unplugged it for us. (Eye roll) The refrigerator could not be adjusted and froze anything stored in it. The patio door handle in our daughter's room was broken and hanging by a thread. On the other hand, the beds were good and the linens and towels were clean.

Housekeeping staff came every few days to bring us fresh towels. That was pretty much all they did. There weren't many of them working and I think that was all they had time for. The rooms need a good deep cleaning. When we arrived and began to unpack, we found that the dresser drawers had a layer of dust in the bottoms with a few dead insects and one cigarette butt in them. Same with the closet floor and shelves, dust and dead insects. We used some of those clean towels to clean the rooms before we felt comfortable unpacking. The kitchen was equipped with a random assortment of dishes and pans. Our housekeeper happily provided us with a few spoons and glasses and other oddments.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry you missed the entrance to the snorkel area located the end of the beach. The snorkeling is located just outside the tide pools. I am happy you were able to visit the beaches of St Croix. There are so many beautiful ones and all beaches are public. St Croix is an island meant to explore. Although your stay was not perfect , we appreciate the feedback as to improve our services for next time. I am glad you enjoy a comfortable stay in our ocean front rooms.

I cannot say enough good things about this resort. Everyone was very nice and extremely helpful when I got into a bind on the east end of the island where there is little (actually no) cell service. Everyone from the front desk to the owner of the property were attentive and showed concern for my happiness and well being. I got the deluxe King room located on the second floor and I had a beautiful view of the ocean. I enjoyed sitting out on my balcony every morning with of cup of coffee and deciding what I would do for the day. My large room was very clean and comfortable. Big fluffy pillows! Housekeeping was on point. Beach towels are provided. I wish I ciuld just move in there! lol. Some of the beaches on the island can be rocky, so I would suggest taking along water shoes.
Bottom line, I would NOT hesitate to stay here again.

Overall the resort was great. It is clean, the staff is very friendly, the views are outstanding. If you are looking for a resort to just sit around and not explore, this probably isn’t your vibe. We went to explore and have a nice place to come back to every night. The pool is ok, the beach is ok but the rocks start right at the edge of the water so not swim-able. The bar is right there with great friendly bartenders. The drinks and food are a bit on the overpriced side comparing to other options within a 10 or 15 minute drive. The food could also use a bit of a refresh and upgrade.

The only “issue” we ran into was a few of the little things involving housekeeping. They generally cleaned, the bed linens were clean and fresh, totally fine there. What was missed was refilling empty body wash bottles (which was super thin to begin with), replacing used keurig pods (only got 3 for a 7 night stay), a missing (refillable) lotion bottle. Again, these are all little things but they are things that make a difference and are easy to fix.

Overall, for the price, this was a great option for a place to crash, jump in the pool at the end of the day to cool off, and grab a drink or food when we were tapped out from adventures. Just improving a few places would take this up a notch! Still I would go back.

Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful feedback! We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed the clean facilities, the friendly staff, and the stunning views. It sounds like you made the most of your adventures, and we’re happy that the resort was a great place to unwind at the end of the day. We really appreciate you bringing up the housekeeping details. We agree that those little touches, like replenishing body wash or Keurig pods, can make a big difference, and we’ll be sure to address this with our team to ensure a more consistent experience for future guests. We also hear your thoughts on the food and pricing, and will look into options to refresh the menu and provide better value. It’s great to know that the resort still met your needs for relaxation and comfort overall. We’d love to welcome you back again soon and make your next stay even better! Great more private spot in Christiansted !! They have no real soft sand beachfront ! You can’t just walk out and go in water( unfortunately). You can hear the waves at night and it’s really beautiful! We slept with door open . It’s an older resort with limited amenities. No laundry and an ok workout room which you have to walk to. They only have a bar/restaurant with no cocktail list and just some bar food ! Breakfast is very limited ! Food is ok at best! Make reservations at Goat soap n Whiskey or Duggens reef or The Landing( all so good )😋 Rooms are clean air conditioner is quiet . Bathroom is small with no privacy and water trickles out of shower head. Beds comfy and staff very nice!! Place needs work but overall we had a lovely stay!

Thank you for your feedback. We value our guest, and our goal is for our guest to return for another amazing stay. Our location is perfect to explore the whole island and there are so many beaches all public and easily accessible with a short drive. St. Croix is meant to explore and although our water is more of a snorkel and explore beach, you can enjoy our tide pools next to the beach which make for a safe area. Enjoy the outer side of the reef and explore great snorkeling. Volleyball is a favorite activity by many or just relaxing on the beach chairs and watching the waves, boats go by and ultimately the amazing sunset that can be seen even though we are the East side of the Island. Take a splash in our ocean front pool and order drinks from the bar or let the server come to you. Call the hotel for our great rates and thank you for the positive remarks. You named some fabulous local restaurants that are all close to Tamarind Reef and sure to be enjoyed by all. Enjoy our ocean front dining at The Deep End and their nightly specials, along with enjoying the evening shows and activities we have. They are sure to be a highlight on your stay. We have kitchenettes for those who want to cook in at the end of a fun day of island adventures.

We chose the Tamarind Reef Resort for the oceanside room and the subsequent ocean views from inside our room. The room even has a hanging chair on a rope right in front of the sliding door to sit in and enjoy the view. Unfortunately, all of the double paned windows in the room were fogged up inside (Room number 8, see the attached photo).
To make matters worse, we initially paid a $285 deposit on the room. We cancelled our reservation and were told that the deposit would be refunded. We then rebooked the room and were charged the full amount even though I told them that we had never received the refund on our deposit. I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company in order to get them to finally refund us the deposit a month after we got home. This is not what I want to deal with when I am on vacation.
Other than that, the beds were comfortable. We did enjoy being outside on the oceanfront, the breakfasts were good, and the personnel we dealt with were very sweet.

I appreciate the kind words about the resort and hope you will come to St Croix and Tamarind Reef Resort Again. Discover a tranquil hideaway in the U.S. Virgin Islands at Tamarind Reef Resort, Spa & Marina. Tucked away amid lush tropical lawns and swaying palm trees on the island of St. Croix, our oceanfront property has everything you need to relax and unwind. I am sorry to hear of your experience with the billing. The refund was awarded from the hotel for your nonrefundable room charge, it was just a delay in processing on our part due to a software transition. We are in the process of repairing our few windows that have been fogged from the storms or weather. As I recall, you mentioned this to the front desk but seemed content to stay in your room. Please next time, we would love to accommodate you and move rooms if you are unsatisfied. It is not a problem, and we want our guests to enjoy their stay to its fullest. Thank you for your review, and I hope you will come join us again where you will once again receive warm, friendly service and a great view of the Caribbean waters.

My husband and I spent a week at Tamarind Reef. Our room was exceptional . . clean, spacious and included a beautiful view. We were met with friendly faces everyday which made our stay all the more enjoyable. The housekeeping staff, maintenance, restaurant and bar staff and front desk were all there to make our experience the best it could be. I would strongly recommend Tamarind for couples, families and those looking for a most convenient location in which to explore the island.

We were so excited to go to St Croix for the first time, the reviews and photos on their website looked very nice, so we booked 4 nights with TRR. When arriving, the resort looks NOTHING like the photos on the website. The website shows everything all clean and new looking but that is just not so. Everything is in need of major maintenance. Everything is run down, not taken care of and just pretty much broken. We supposedly had one of their best rooms but from our experience this place is a expensive dive hotel (we're divers so we know the cheap dive hotels and this was NOT cheap). Our room had several issues, Shower door doesn't close or open without force, paint peeling in the bathroom, AC doesn't work that well (lucky if you get the room cooler than the outside with it), the sliding door was so hard to open that you could get a hernia opening and closing it, the front door stuck so bad that you have to force it open and closed to go in and out, the ceiling fan had issues (it mostly did this clicking noise). The floor in the room is not clean even after housekeeping comes, evident from having to wipe your feet off every time when you get into bed so you don't get a bunch of junk in the bed. There are several more things but I would just warn people to stay away so you don't get surprised like we did.

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights over Christmas. The owner (John) and his staff were EXCELLENT. Every person was nice and helpful. The room was nice, clean and all rooms have a great view. They were having some issues with the lights; our overhead light would randomly come on in the middle of the night.

Some thIngs to consider about staying here - if you don’t have a car, taxis cost $20 to go anywhere. Also, if a cruise ship is in town, it’s impossible to get a taxi because they all go to Fredericksted. There isn’t a good beach at the hotel either. There is a nice perk that they give guests a $15 credit per person for breakfast.

Overall, I liked this hotel. It’s also a lot cheaper than the Buccaneer.

This review is for the first 3 nights of our stay, my wife will leave a review of the last 3 nights.

I knew I should've said something at check in when they put us all the way down in the very last room next to the bar but so close to the pool. After night one when the bar didn't shut down at 9:30 and the drunks we still out making noise at midnight and the rooster woke up at 4:30 we should've moved. We put up with no water pressure, very little hot water in the shower, and the bar and hotel workers parking in the very limited 6 parking spaces for 3 days before we had enough and told the front desk that we wanted to move.
When we went to the desk they told us that that building was being renovated. I don't understand why they put us there knowing that because there were very few people staying at the resort to begin with.

The pool was cold and is a lap pool.

To the resorts credit after we went to the front office they moved us up to building 1, room 5 which was much quieter, had more parking, lots of hot water, and a kitchenette (we didn't use it).

I'd consider staying here again but only if guaranteed a spot in building 1. Building 3 is always going to be noisy at night and the parking situation is never going to change. Also this is a look at the ocean only place the sea was pretty rough during our entire stay and there are signs to beware of Sea Urchins.

We traveled to St. Croix for a quick weekend getaway with the our 10 year old and 8th month old arriving late Friday Night - From Check in to Check out we had such a great time. Traveling with an Infant they had set up a pack and play for us in our room before we arrived making it easy to get to sleep upon arrival. We went to early breakfast Saturday at the Deep End Grill and had a great leisurely breakfast - we hung out by the pool, relaxed at the beach and relaxed on the beach front porch. The room was updated with clean finishes and nice touches that made the stay great.

What is best way to get from airport to hotel tamarind?
Answer from mrl984
25 contributions5 helpful votes
From the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (STX), take a left out of the airport.  Please make sure you stay on the left side of the road. At the stop light, turn right onto Melvin Evans Highway, Route 66. Pass through five traffic lights, continuing straight. You will see the route number change to Route 70, which you will follow around a few curves until you come to a light at the bottom of the hill. Continue straight onto the by-pass. At the second light, turn right onto East End Road, #82. Tamarind Reef Resort is approximately two miles down, on the left side of the road.
