We did our first trip aboard the Calypso Rose with our hosts; Captain Miel, and First Mate Sharon, in 2008. It was a 7 day, 6 night trip of the BVI. Never having sailed before, we didn't really know what to expect. We had concerns about how nice the boat would be, how competent and friendly the captain and crew would be, how good the food and drink was going to be. Well, every aspect was so amazing, we returned this year for 11 days, 10 nights!
Sharon is just an incredible hostess/First Mate. She has that very special ability to make everything just right. Sharon is warm, welcoming and uncommonly talented. Her creativity in the galley is remarkable, her warmth and hospitality, the very best! For breakfast, ask Sharon to make her special Dutch puffrages! For dinner, be sure to ask for the grilled kabobs with Sharon’s peanut sauce! Her appetizers, snacks and lunches are equally special, she is great at being creative with all the fresh, locally grown provisions.
Miel, our Captain is very knowledgable, extremely competent and fun yet safety minded. He is a true sailor and is passionate about sailing and the seas. In his supportive and encouraging manner, Miel very gladly teaches interested and willing guests all they want to know about sailing. On our first trip, we weren't even out of the harbor and Miel had my fiance at the helm, steering the Calypso Rose out between channel markers and an incoming cruise ship! Miel is a masterful and patient teacher, he never made us feel incompetent or unwelcome to sail their beautiful 43’ Beneteau.
Together, both Sharon and Miel are wonderful and competent hosts. They know the waters and snorkeling/diving spots, the beaches, bars and restaurants and all the best harbors and moorings. They work nicely as a team and in a very personable yet professional way, they ensured we enjoyed every second of both of our vacations. The Calypso Rose is clean and very well cared for, she sleeps four very comfortably. There is room for two additional adults, but it might get cramped during longer sails. We cannot adequately put into words just how much we enjoyed both of our sailing trips. The food, their company and everything else was spectacular! We met as customers, we disembarked as good friends. John and Kelli - Washington, DC.

My friends and I went sailing with Miel and Sharon and spent the evening at the Rose Sail Inn Bed & Breakfast. The Rose Sail Inn is at Carden Beach (a gated condo development in Coakley Bay) in a gorgeous seaside setting. The landscaping is beautiful. After being admitted at the gatehouse we take the short winding drive to the condo. A B&B in a condo sounds a bit strange, until you see it. It’s a beautiful unit built on two levels fronting the water – there are three bedrooms, 2 are guest rooms with baths ensuite and the third an office / bedroom for the owners with an adjacent guest bath. The beautifully appointed bedroom suites are at opposite ends of the condo from each other. There is an open plan great room and kitchen and a large patio with a gate that leads to the path to the pool and ocean. The inn is available when Miel and Sharon are not off sailing the BVI with on-board guests and guests of the inn may also take advantage of sailing around STX with the couple. More info: http://www.sailandbreakfast.com/ We enjoyed visiting with Miel and Sharon and spending some time just snacking on the patio watching the beautiful Buck Island view and the hummingbirds and bananaquits hitting the sugar feeders. Miel and Sharon are a very gracious, low-key couple who believe in letting their guests set the pace. The ambience of the Inn is very restful, the decor and amenities are first-rate. The location is east end St. Croix with easy access to Christiansted, east end restaurants and beaches. Sailing with Miel and Sharon on the Calypso Rose was the highlight of our vacation.
