I spent a week on Vieques in Feb. 2016 and stumbled upon the Bananas happy hour from 4-6 and they had the BEST fish tacos. It was a perfect afternoon snack - cheap, satisfying with a beautiful spot to catch a sunset! Fish tacos could use some cilantro, but, the crisp battered fish bites were so very tasty! They had... I have been on TripAdvisor for nearly a decade. This is one of a very few "mixed" reviews I have given. I do not do all inclusives or Disney cruises. My needs are pretty simple. My experience here was a real "make do" situation. The guesthouse is behind Bananas, a really fun restaurant with amazing food. The restaurant is across... More

Dont't fall into this. The only good thing, it's that the waitress notied, and didn't put on the check some of the nastr food...

Any place called Bananas peaks my interest and I was blown away at how perfect and nice my room was. The whole establishment is exactly what you are looking for on a small tropical island. My room had its own shower/bathroom, plenty of towels, the bed was huge and very comfy plus I had a private patio that was mosquito... More

One cosy rustic guests house with a nice and helpful staff. The rooms have AC but are pretty basic except for that, but it provides all essentials you will need and a genuine island feel. There triplets burger is awesome and really BIG! The rom punch is served in mason jars, and are perfect for cooling down after beach.

Bananas is located in Esperanza in front of the Malecon, facing the sea. It's quaint and rustic. If you are looking for something that is clean and near the beaches, this is the place to stay. It's a no frills spot. I was looking for a place that offered clean sheets, a/c, private bathroom and ideal location for a great... More

Our room was located on the first floor and it was old, musty with dirty wood floors. Our shower drain was very slow--I think the staff was already aware of the issue because they were nice enough to leave a plunger in the room. There weren't any phones in the rooms, so if you had an issue with the bathroom... More

Thank you to all TripAdvisor readers & reviewers. This is Kurt & Kelly the new owners of Bananas restaurant & guesthouse. We purchased the property a little over a year ago knowing the building, business & property all needed serious attention. Our first priority was the restaurant & the kitchen, as it needed the most attention. Over the past seven... More

Bananas location was great! It is right in the middle of Esperanza, on Vieques, facing the sea. The rooms were rustic, but adequate with en-suite baths and air-conditioning, as well as a little veranda attached, and fairly priced, we thought. It is NOT a B&B. The restaurant did not serve breakfast, but that was not as problem as other restaurants... More

Bananas was a good place to stay in Esperanza especially for travelers who aren’t spending a whole lot of time in the hotel or are backpacking. I mean that in the best way possible, just that we were mostly going to the beaches and exploring or eating outside at their restaurant or getting beers at other places on the malecon.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Bananas is on island time: the clock in our bar landed on happy hour and never gains a minute. Come from the beach for a burger or salad, or stroll in at sunset for a pina colada. The office staff is always happy to guide you through options for transportation, bio bay and other activities. Island time means no worry, no hassle. We don't do wake up calls. In fact, our rooms don't have phones, or TV. They are comfortably furnished with an island decor and we don't scrimp on the towels. We are happy to point the way to the best snorkeling or swimming beaches, suggest kayaking, reef or fishing trips, tours of the bioluminescent bay and recommend dining spots on the island (but don't tell our chef)! Leave it all behind when you come here. ... more   less
