The La Concha Renaissance San Juan Resort offers a vibrant, club-like atmosphere that some guests find a bit too lively, with loud music often permeating the air. While the hotel's location earns high marks for its proximity to beaches and local attractions, the service quality receives mixed reviews, with some praising the staff's friendliness and others pointing out inconsistencies.
Guests appreciate the scenic views from their rooms, yet some have concerns over cleanliness and noise. Multiple pools and beach access are popular among visitors, although the value is questioned due to additional fees and the cost of amenities.

Stayed at the La Concha for 5 nights. The location is fabulous! It is less than 15 minutes from the airport. Walking distance to several restaurants and a quick Uber to Old San Juan too. Excursions to the El Yunke Rainforest (ziplining, hike, kayak) took around an hour to get there. There is also a CVS, Walgreens and Starbucks about a 5 minute walk away.
The lobby and pool area are kept in clean, pristine condition. Poolside staff was attentive without being intrusive. There were three pools and we visited all three but enjoyed the shade and quiet of the adult pool the most.
Rooms are clearly dated but having a proper kitchenette trumps being dated. In room they have those single cup expresso machines which I do not like so had to step out for coffee every morning. Fitness center was nice and kept clean as well. We did not visit the casino but it stayed busy day and night.
During our stay, we visited The Lobby Bar on 5 separate occasions. Two of them we sat at high tops and had cocktail waitresses who were friendly and welcoming. The appetizers we ordered were wonderful (ceviche, chicken nachos, pulpo a la brasa, brisket quesadillas). The three occasions we sat at the bar for drinks, all with a different bartender, we felt unwelcome. The advertised nightly events of free coquito shots or Old Fashioned classes, they seemed even more bothered with the patrons. And the bar was not busy by any means. Each time we finished our one beverage (which were between $20-25 each for basic cocktails), and we left to drink elsewhere.
We had dinner at Serafina. They advertise gluten free pasta but had run out. Delymar Gomez, the manager, went out of her way to get some for us and paired with their Bolognese sauce, it was worth the wait! The lobster ravioli and wood fired pizza were amazing too!

I had an amazing experience at La Concha! The best part was the 330 cocktail making class with bartender, Angel! He made our stay amazing- made great drinks, gave great recommendations, and provided entertainment to us while at the bar! Virna, the fitness instructor, was also very accommodating during my stay! I loved her water aerobics class and she went above and beyond during with fruit water, infused washcloths, and lavender during my session! Overall, the resort was very nice and had plenty to do. Very nice spots to be at the pool or beach. Beach staff was also very helpful and friendly with setting up chairs and umbrellas! Also had fun at the casino and lobby bar! Old San Juan is very fun and just a short uber away. La concha is very close to the airport as well. The stay, food, and drinks were a tad expensive but I was very pleased with all of it. The room was very nice and had a beach view. 😍

La Concha is a solid four star experience. The resort is very nice, but unfortunately under renovation at the moment, which I was not aware of when booking our stay. Construction noise at 7am is not ideal on vacation or when trying to relax at the pool. In fact, construction dust and minor debris fell on us several times at the adults only pool. Thankfully the beach area was quiet enough. The staff made up for this inconvenience, however. Everyone working at this hotel is amazing and seems to truly enjoy their jobs, or at least they’re good at faking it. The beach attendants were wonderful and set us up with chairs and an umbrella each day. Angel at the adult pool was a great bartender and friendly face each day. The food is quite good for breakfast and lunch, again served by the friendly staff who will do anything to accommodate you. The spa is absolutely lovely if not egregiously expensive. It was perhaps the best massage of my life by the skillful Javier, but the prices are a bit ridiculous.
A few items of note: the resort is smoke free, but we smelled marijuana constantly. And I mean constantly. Housekeeping seems to come early in the morning and then not again. Our DND sign was down by 10am each day (acceptable while on vacation, I think) but we never had housekeeping unless requested. A “please make up the room” sign could be helpful.
Lots of restaurants in walking distance. I would definitely come back again once renovations are complete.

Overall, I had a rather nice stay at La Concha San Juan Resort for my first trip to San Juan, in spite of some unexpected and unpleasant downfalls.
Check in experience: Not only were they unable to accommodate my 2:30 pm early check in, but they had me waiting until close to 5:30 pm to finally get my room ready! For the 90 mins they had me wait past the 4 pm check in time, they offered me a $50 credit for each 30 minute block and comp'd me an additional 30 mins for a $200 credit. After a long flight and going through a rental car pick up, I would have much rather checked in on time by 4 pm and not received this courtesy credit.
Room: I got lucky to get one of their third floor rooms with a hot tub in the patio. Their mattresses are quite old and you can see the concave in their mattress: sleeping on it for five nights gave me a neck pain, which I noticed after I checked out. I was also shocked and unhappy about a cockroach that entered my room. A manager on duty that day, Ms. D. Correa, came by my room to apologize for it, collected the cockroach from me, and assured me that it was a rare occurrence as they employ an effective pest control service.
Parking: As with most properties in San Juan, their parking garage is pretty tight. They have ample parking and I had no issues finding a spot any time I drove off the property and returned.
Housekeeping: Their housekeeping team was quite courteous and efficient, always generous with providing you with any items that needed to be replenished. Five stars here.
Bar: They offer Elite rewards members with a rum drink voucher. Wasn't too impressed with it as it is a Don Q rum drink with a soda or juice mixture.
Aroma coffee bar: I really liked their coffee bar and thought everything on the menu was reasonably priced
Recycling: While they do not offer a recycling waste bin in their general lobby or in guest rooms, they have their housekeeping staff collecting bottles from room trash bins separately to recycle, and I was also pleased that they took my recyclable items when I checked out.
If they invest in replacing their concave/old mattresses, I will gladly return here on my future visits to SJ, as I require a firm mattress to avoid back and neck discomfort. Otherwise, this is a pretty nice resort hotel in San Juan.

The resort seems to be designed for teenagers on "Gradweek" with after graduation parties, or weddings and birthday parties
Breakfast at the Loft restaurant was slow if you did not order the buffet. The breakfast buffet at that same restaurant was $44 per person. (with five couples in the restaurant it took over 30 minutes to get bacon and eggs with no apologies by the by the waitress who snapped back that there were other people ahead of us).
There are many fine restaurants off the resort including restaurants in old San Juan
The music with the DJ at the pool and at beach was blaring and was competing against other loudspeakers with other music. according to security (supervisor) the volume of the music at the pool could not be turned down and it was Intentionally high to discourage guests from listening to their own music
The biggest surprise was the $65.00 a day resort charge, after we paid for the entire vacation through American Airlines in 2023. When we were checking in we were told that there would be a $49 a day fee however when we got back to the room we learned of the $65 resort fee +11% tax on that fee. (At this point we could not realistically cancel our vacation and fly back home or to another resort)
As with many resorts in this price range the grounds, pools and the lobby are pretty. The water was not safe to swim in with Rip tides
We have traveled the Caribbean for over 20 years and there are much better values for the money on other islands with safer beaches

Our experience at the hotel fell short of expectations in several key areas. Firstly, there were issues with service consistency throughout our stay, ranging from interactions at the front desk to the housekeeping services. Additionally, our stay coincided with construction activity in our tower, which was not communicated prior to booking. Despite inquiring, we were informed this was beyond their control due to our booking method(jetblue). We did not find any notices on their website, nor in the hotel's own website to that affect. It should be front and center, and I believe it is the hotel's responsibility to control listings.
The noise from construction was specified to occur "only" between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM daily.
Despite booking one of the premier rooms, our preference for a king bed was not accommodated until the second day, with the alternative room unfortunately facing an active construction site—a disconcerting oversight given our dissatisfaction with prior service issues.
The first night's there was a party that lasted the whole night. It made it very hard to get a good night sleep.
It's important to note that the hotel promotes beach access; however, we found the beach conditions to be hazardous, with signage warnings everywhere. Everyone at the hotel reinforces that message, including telling us of recent drownings. While picturesque, practical enjoyment of the ocean required a significant walk in hot conditions to a safer area near Condado Bridge, outside of the hotel, with additional charges for amenities($30 per chair)
Housekeeping services were also lacking, requiring three days for our room to be properly cleaned. The tile grout is so moldy that it needs major maintenance.
On a positive note, the hotel's location was convenient, surrounded by numerous dining options. We found the breakfast buffets to be overpriced, around $55-70 per person, including tip. But nearby, we find much better options such as Pannes or Baguettes, which offered superior meals compared to the resort's offerings at half the prices.
Despite being advertised as "pet friendly," the hotel lacked a designated relief area for pets, necessitating trips to the street level. There we no amenities for dogs.
In summary, our stay did not align with our expectations for a relaxing experience, especially considering the hotel's affiliation with the Marriott brand.

We are just wrapping up our 2-night stay in room 309 (Ocean Tower) as Marriott Bonvoy Gold members.
The positives:
- great gym
- friendly gym and security staff
- we found the lobby bar staff friendly and mixed solid rum drinks
- most of the check-in lobby staff were also friendly (with exception detailed below)
- good location with a convenient front driveway for taxis/Ubers to pull up to
- easy walk to many other breakfast options, pharmacies, liquor stores
The negatives:
- the bass from the hotel's nightclub (Fifty Eight San Juan) is SO loud you will NOT be able to get any sleep until it ends at 4am (especially if your room, like ours, is in the Ocean Tower with windows facing the beach/ocean). We confirmed with the front desk that this was the source of the noise and even took video from our bedroom at 3:40am where all you hear was the bass. We tried high-end earplugs and cranking up the white noise+a/c, but that only masks some of the singing/voices and does nothing for the bass. Our travelling peers up on the 5th floor Ocean Tower similarly could not sleep and were woken up throughout the nice by the bass. Completely unacceptable for this class of hotel.
- as Marriott Bonvoy Gold members, a late-checkout can be requested if available. The evening before our checkout, we checked online to make sure that there were plenty (at least 3+) rooms still available in our room class, and then I approached the front desk with our room number and Bonvoy status. The check-in lobby staff (female, glasses with hair tied up in back) immediately stated without checking her reservation system that the hotel was fully booked and that we would have to be out by 11am latest. Perplexed, we sat down in the lobby and then I sent my caucasian husband back to the front desk to talk to the other lobby check-in staff person. This second staff person took the time to check their reservation system and said a later check-out was indeed available and offered 12pm. This left us feeling sad that the first front-deck check-in person was either just lazy or racially-profiled me (as a visible non-caucasian), neither of which is acceptable for this class of hotel.
Despite some positives, the negatives made this by far the worst Marriott Bonvoy property stay we have ever had. Unless thing change, we recommend staying FAR away from this property.

This hotel is conveniently located near the airport and is walking distance to stores and restaurants. The first I room I was assigned had baby ants crawling all over the desk. After returning to the front desk i was assigned another room in the same building on a lower level. The new room appeared to be clean on the surface but smelt pretty musty. After flying all night we decided to shower and get some rest. Literally every single towel in the room had some type of light brown stain on it. I later realized even the towels by the pool had the same stains. Our first night my partner became very itchy. Our second night we killed a spider but it was no big deal as spiders are everywhere. We decided to head to the pool located in the center of the hotel. They have white covers to be placed over the beach chairs. I requested 2 and as I was walking away I turned around for new covers because the ones I was originally given were damp. Almost as if they were used by someone else. Later that night while walking into the bathroom we noticed a cockroach running from the crack by the bathroom door. I screamed and my partner killed the cockroach. We frantically gathered all our belongings and began packing because there’s no way we’re staying there after killing a cockroach. We rigorously began checking all our clothes, suitcases, shoes, bags, etc. to make sure there weren’t any bugs on our stuff. Within minutes we were in the lobby and I politely requested to speak to the general manager or operations manager. A supervisor was present and assisting another guest. When she became available I showed her the photos and informed her I just killed this cockroach in my room and I let her know I cannot stay here because where there is one cockroach there is plenty more. The manager apologized and agreed to check me out. I asked if I was going to be refunded as I was scheduled to leave the next day. She agreed to give me a $300 and not charge me for the day since I was leaving. I expressed my concerns of potentially bringing home cockroaches in my belongings her response was the hotel is located on a tropical island so this is expected. Appalled at her response I informed her I have traveled to many tropical islands and this is the first time I’ve ever experience anything like this. I have since trashed my suitcase and carry on bag. Upon returning home I stayed up at all night washing loads of laundry because we’re paranoid of cockroaches and their eggs. This entire ordeal ruined our vacation. This traumatic experience has made me extremely paranoid and reluctant to book any vacations in the future.

This hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport and located on a very noisy buy central tourist strip. There are tons of restaurants, bars, pharmacies etc. so you won’t be bored whatsoever. The hotel lobby smells immaculate and the staff are attentive and kind. The food at the resort is wonderful and the drinks are delicious. The main pools are CHILLY and filled with kids. Only the adult pool is heated but the sun is minimal because the buildings block the sun in the adult area. Food and drinks are EXPENSIVE! So be prepared for a high bill when you leave as they also add the daily resort fee to your final bill. Drinks range from $18+. A half pitcher of sangria is $60! The beach is easily accessible from the pool areas and chairs are available for guests but be prepared to just sit on the beach because the water is ROUGH. Ubers are cheap in PR compared to major cities and the location is walkable to a lot of places. So if you’re okay with noise, have a healthy budget and need a clean place to stay while you’re in PR, this is the place for you.

Just returned from week over Christmas. The hotel check-in fella was extremely friendly, very professional. The lobby was very clean and decor for holiday was very tastefully done. Had an ocean front balcony suite on 12th floor, very clean and comfortable bed. The housekeeping was excellent , when we came up from early breakfast every morning our room was made up and smelled fresh and clean, the same with turn down service in evening. Great job! Breakfast staff was very friendly and very attentive , food was pretty good too. You do have families who do let their kids drop all there food under table and just leave it( bad parents) but the staff was on it and cleaned it rapidly. Lobby bar was clean , and some of the bartenders were friendlier then others , We do like our cocktails( a bit expensive) but your on vacation. You do get a few drink vouchers they are for the Don Q rum drinks, the first two nights aside from spending $$$ on drinks we had coconut rum and pineapple they accepted vouchers, on the last night after ordering same drink for 5days would not accept voucher because the rum was flavored… The last day day we had lunch at the pool bar, very busy but very well organized , food came out quick and as I was telling my husband this is very good I noticed that one of the cooks was making salads ( not washed lettuce) and pounding raw chicken at same time, then with same raw chicken hands was putting buns in plates and pickles on buns( that was no bueno !! I said to manager right in front of me Daniel( his name) you can’t do raw chicken at same time as making sandwiches , he looked at me, as I watched he went to head chef said something and made nasty faces like I was crazy for saying something. I did not appreciate that. Thank god I had my food already or their may have been something worse then raw chick on it. All in all it was a great trip. I would give a full 4 1/2 But Daniel the pool bar manager manager should have done better
