I always read reviews, but I never leave them. I always tend to forget, but never again! We stayed here on 5/24/15 after we came back from a cruise. We were on our honeymoon and didn't want to fight with the crowd leaving San Juan to get back home before Memorial Day. We always wanted to see what San Juan was all about and boy are we glad we did!! The hospitality that the ladies at the front gave us were wonderful. We got the suite because after all we were on our honeymoon and when in Rome! The suite was amazing!! It looks just like the pictures on the internet. We had like 3 sets of doors that would open up and look out towards the street like a balcony. It was AMAZING!! It is a little short walk from the cruise ship terminal and if you aren't paying attention to where you are going you will miss it, but just call the front desk and they will gladly help you! The noise was a little loud at night when trying to sleep, but hey its Puerto Rico and it was Memorial Day weekend so I expected a little noise. I thought I wasn't going to be able to sleep, but I didn't have any problem. The noise would die down around 1030pm to midnight depending on what is going on in the area. The breakfast was AMAZING as well as the coffee...one word AMAZING!!! The hotel knew we were on our honeymoon and once we got into our room there were rose petals on the bed as well as Hershey kisses, and swans made out of towels and ice in our bucket with two bottles of water and a letter from the hotel saying Happy Honeymoon!! It was perfect!!! We were treated like Royalty from the time we stepped into the hotel!! We even got to use the Presidential Suite since it wasn't being used to sit and enjoy our evening with each other. We drank a bottle of wine and enjoyed each other on the terrace. It was wonderful. The staff paid attention to every detail!! They even knew that we were leaving the next morning a little early so they packed us a to go breakfast with a note! So sweet! To Ana and Stephanie and the new girl that I don't remember her name sorry: Thank you so much for the hospitality and the most amazing night in San Juan!! We can't wait to come back!!!

Wow, we were able to upgrade to the Presidential Suite on arrival. It was well worth it, beautiful with large glass French doors that opened up to our terrace with its own outdoor bathroom. The bathroom was huge and sumptuous. The service we received was excellent. After dinner out (right around the corner) we had yummy dessert's delivered and the wait staff lit all of our candles. The free Trolly is right out side the front of the hotel, we just jumped on and got on and off as we wished. Beautifully prepared breakfast included and we enjoyed a long morning rest in the beautiful dining room, very intimate and we felt like we were family. The front desk stored our luggage so we could shop the day away, prior to boarding our cruise. We didn't want to leave. I will recommend this hotel to all my friends!

Hubby and I stayed here before our cruise (located about 10 min walk to port). Loved the hotel and the location. Check in was super fast and the staff was very friendly. We asked for recommendations on where to eat and explore and they offered great suggestions. We really enjoyed the local cuisine at Manolin and the Cigar House. The room was beautiful and the bed was super comfy. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a chill place to stay in Old San Juan.

We wanted a pre-cruise hotel near the port and normally stay at the Sheraton Old San Juan, but the night we wanted was not available. We had read great reviews about the Cervantes Hotel - also very close to the port. In fact, this hotel even won an award in 2012 for being 'upscale and trendy'. Seriously? More like 'sketchy' and 'noisy' I would say. The only shining stars were the staff who were attentive and welcoming. Then things went straight downhill. There are no telephones in the rooms. The air conditioning shuts off by itself, over and over again - an issue that we addressed with the staff who sent a handyman and said it was repaired. It continued to shut off and one of us had to keep getting up as we lay drenched in sweat on that steamy September night in San Juan. I personally woke up sweating no less than four times. My husband was already awake from the noise outside. Our room faced the street which has several outdoor bars and the noise went on....and on....all night until about 6am. There was also a brawl - a domestic disturbance on our floor and my husband went downstairs to report it to the security guard. Unfortunately the security guard did not speak English and my husband does not speak Spanish, so the yelling and banging and loud cursing of the not so happy couple down the hall went on all night as well. We had already heard that there were no eggs nor meat in the included breakfast so asked only for a coffee. The staff, although well-intentioned, brought a frothy coffee 'beverage' instead. My husband, normally a fairly even tempered chap did not even feel that we should have paid for the hot, noisy nightmare that was September 22nd 2012 at the Cervantes. Unless you enjoy a hot, sweaty night, no telephone in your room, unbelievable noise levels due to uninsulated windows, please ignore the award that they won. Trust me, the person giving the award could not have actually stayed there.....Run!

Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to write to us. We pride ourselves in classifying our hotel as European Style with Luxurious amenities. We apologize if your standards were not met and it seemed "sketchy". Old San Juan is known for the great nightlife and since our location is right in the heart of the city, we have busy bars, restaurants and clubs for all those who wish to enjoy them. And for those who don't , we accommodate them in a higher floor where the noise is minimal. As for the telephone situation, your reservation was made through Booking.com and under amenities this is specified. We are deeply saddened that your AC did not work properly as these issues happen and get resolved . We assure you and all others, that all air conditioning in our establishment is verified everyday before Check In time to make sure they are in working condition. A continental breakfast normally consists of slices of cheese and cold meat, pastries, cereal, fruit and drinks like coffee, tea or fruit juices. That is exactly what we serve, if not more. We are a bit confused with your comment about our Coffee since everyday, without hesitation, our guests inform us of how delicious our Coffee is and have multiple cups. If they are looking for a more complex type of Beverage, we send them to the best coffee shops ( which are only 5 minutes or less from our hotel). So again, we apologize for your steamy and sweaty night in the beautiful Chateau Cervantes in Old San Juan. You and your family are always welcome in our Boutique Hotel and we hope to receive you in other better circumstances that doesn't bring disappointing results. We are doing everything to make our guest feel comfortable and happy during their stay, if you stay again we will guarantee a pleasant time. Thank You.

upon check in at 1100 hrs on aug 25th 2007, front desk failed to inform us of an existing airconditioning problem throughout the twelve room hotel. after checking into the hotel and dropping our bags in our rooms we proceded to tour the beautiful city of "old san juan". we did not return to our rooms until 2130 hrs. even at this late hour front desk did not inform us the problem at hand. first clue we had was the room thermostat was not working. when i reached the front desk we were finally told about the a/c problem. at 2400 hrs we awoke in a drenching sweat had no choice but to take several cold showers. and if that wasn't an inconvinience at 0130 the construction generators kicked from the building renovation job right across the street from our room balcony. at this time we called the front desk again to complain and document our calls and times because we planed to take this up with managment first thing in the morning. at 0600 hrs we no longer could stand the heat so we exited the hotel only to find the front door locked. after calling out for someone and walking around the lobby area i encountered a sleeping clerk on the couch. after unlocking the door and letting us out for some badly needed cool air, took in a beautiful sunrise from the "old san juan waterfront district". after returning to the hotel at 0800 hrs i spoke to edwin the front desk supervisor about our complaints and requested the documented calls we placed to the front desk through out the night. apparentlly he unable to find anything. i requested to speak to the general manager or the owner of the hotel but to no avail. myself as well as another party staying with us requested an adjustment in our bill or even a discount for the horrible evening we spent at this hotel. edwin informed us that he would call angel at home"general manager". upon checkout he told us that the manager could not be reached and nothing at this point could be done for us. he also said that someone from managment would reach us by cell phone while we stayed elswhere in san juan. he gladly closed our accounts at full price with my american express card. to this day 09/02/07 no one has made an attempt to reach us to even apologize for that horrible stay at the chateau cervantes. i will never again recommend this hotel to any friends or relatives.

We wanted to love this hotel having gone to great lengths to find the perfect location for our next trip to San Juan but from the moment we arrived it was a nightmare. Checking in at 4:00 pm we hauled all of our luggage by ourselves up to the Cervantes Suite as the elevator was not working, only to find our suite filthy ( it had not been made up ) we were then told to come back in an hour only to find the TV didn't work, one of the toilets was broken, lights were missing bulbs, balcony doors did not close and with no phones in the room it meant running up and down the stairs to try and find someone to report these issues to. The staff was consistently rude and completely unconcerned with the guests experience and the head housekeeper Louisa was downright hostile. There was rarely anyone even at the front desk and coming in one afternoon we found one of the desk clerks trying to hide a bottle of beer she was drinking. Breakfast was just ridiculous. We watched a family arrive and wait 20 minutes to be served and then told there was nothing left to eat. We stayed a total of 8 nights and gave up on breakfast after 2. Of those 8 nights our suite was neverr vacumed and the floors were filthy, on one particular day we arrived back only to find the handyman sitting in our bedroom on a chair texting while a housekeeper was making the bed! The sofa in the suite had to be covered with a sheet as the material was so sticky and the dye rubbed off on our cloths. So disappointing as the building itself has so much potential.

Despite the location, The hotel managed to disappoint on every level. The original room we reserved was not ready due to a "broken toilet". For some reason it took longer than our planned stay for that to be fixed! The room they eventually put us in was a terrible one on the fifth floor, just in time for the elevator to break. Then the AC was next. The last straw was upon check out. The person at the desk informed us that there was a $25 fee per hour, every hour, after noon, a fee we were not warned about. Shameful all around!

This hotel has a perfect location at the heart of San Juan. I'm afraid the praise must end there. Upon arriving we were greeted by what I can only describe as a frantic and unprepared staff, as if they didn't expect there to be guests. That is likely why our room was not ready, despite arriving 4 hours after the allowed check in time. Upon arriving at our room, after carrying our luggage up the 4 flights of stairs (the elevator was broken that day), we were informed that they would "make our room a priority for cleaning" and that we would have to wait an hour. Why they bothered to even include a breakfast I have no idea. The kitchen is no longer used, with the exception of a microwave . All the food was store bought and prepackaged. Considering I can drive 5 minutes to a fruit stand and grab fresh affordable produce, I was upset me when they served plastic fruit cups, and processed cheese on a plate. The only thing that kept me attending breakfast was well made coffee, which was manned by no less than 3 people in the morning. There was at least 4 staff members running around accomplishing nothing and managing to keep guests waiting far too long for microwave buns. The staff valued highly there social time which they spent most of in the kitchen laughing and watching youtube videos on there phone. Many of the young women working there did attempt to smile one and a while, but I was greeted with no less than a scowl and contempt filled eyes by who i believe was the head housekeeper, her shirt said Louisa. The room had no phone to communicate with the front desk, or anything else for that matter. The pull out bed was covered in what seemed like a sticky melted die which rubbed off on clothes and the sheets. The rooms potential was staggering with high valued ceiling and large antique doors which open out to a gorgeous balcony view. Unfortunately the rugs next to the doors are all decaying and mildewing, due to the fact the doors are not lined with any seal or protectant. When it rains, it blows in under the door. The unsealed door also fail to reduce any noise from outside. Understandably this is not necessary in the day, but at night you here everything and it feels like you've made your bed in the middle of the street. I'm glad I have some plumbing training, because I got to use it to fix the toilet 3 times during my stay. The plumbing and lighting has not been seen to at all, nor have the carpets. What upsets me the most is that all of these problems could be fixed so easily. It is a shame and a waste of such a gorgeous building. The hotel needs a manager that cares.

I traveled to Puerto Rico early July and well I picked about three hotels because I was going to be moving thru different cities and one of my picks was The Cervantes Hotel. My pick came after days of searching the web and being undecided but I was glad because the place was really nice at the end. The hotel's installations are pretty new and out of all the hotels this one had the best and newest bathrooms (which to me is really important).
The hotel itself does not provide valet parking but there is a parking lot right across from it and they will stamp your ticket so it is all good. The door man was very helpful, he showed us to our room and gave a brief explanation of the use of tv and so forth. I believe most rooms have a balcony if not all of them and they all have views to some street from Old San Juan so to be honest view wise its all pretty much the same. As for what is in the area, well there are a couple restaurants ( sushi and italian caught my eye), there is a place called Pool Palace ( not a mistery what you can do there) and couple bars I believe but not quite sure.

The hotel itself is not very large it falls under what I like to think of as Boutique Hotel but is really nice and warm. I must say It is not a family hotel since kids would not have much to do around but its perfect for married couple not traveling with kids, people troubling on their own or similar.

Hopefully my review will be helpful and enjoy your stay if you decide to choose this hotel.

I’m thinking they are not open primarily because there are only two reviews on trip advisor following my stay on 17Sept which was three days prior to the hurricane. I also note no bookings being offered by the usual travel sites. You might want to arrange another place to stay. There seem to be availability at other Old San Juan hotels. Best of luck.

I have no idea, we went in July prior to the storm. I work w someone that is from PR and all of her family is currently there. About 60% of the island now has power but it was devastatingly impacted from the hurricane. I would check w the hotel directly prior to going.

I’m sorry for the late response. The island is just now starting to regain power in certain sections. I would def try reaching out to them prior to planning a trip there. They were devastatingly impacted by the storm, only about 60% of the island has power, some sections still do not.
