Cofresi Palm Beach & Spa Resort offers a lively scene with its variety of amenities, live music, and shows that keep guests entertained, despite some grumbles about tranquility and maintenance. While the staff is often commended for their courteous service, issues with reservation handling can be a letdown. Guests appreciate the resort's cleanliness, but room conditions, including noise and outdated decor, have been points of contention, alongside annoyance over extra charges for certain amenities and services, leading to mixed feelings about the overall value.

As a gold VIP member, I feel like that the VIP status is becoming nothing unless you are an owner. We get emails, and all the new construction revolves around owners.

Reception was quick and painless to pick up our bracelets, room key cards, and towel cards and then off in a golf cart to our room.

Room was a Jr Suite and was spacious, and we had no problems with the room itself...all the issues follow.

Morning after arrival....8:00am...phone ringing....salesman knocking on the door...phone ringing again...guys kicking on door again....I looked through peep hole and they were actually backed up and practically on the floor looking under door to see if they could see feet. Here is how you solve this... As soon as you get to your room, take the phone off the hook and do not put it back on during your stay....they will call every single morning. Take your floor towel..roll it up and place by door so they can't see your feet. The guys knocking on the door usually only knock on the first morning.

Food is mediocre at best. Buffets were nothing to write home about. Our favorite restaurant was Tapas. Tapas 5 star...Brazilian Steakhouse 4 stars but probably a 5 if I wouldn't have gotten sick, and I mean on the toilet 1 to 2 times an hour for 12 hours straight. The rest of the restaurants are 3 stars or worse.

As VIP, we have a choice of airport transfer by helicopter or limo. Apparently, neither is offered for VIP anymore. That was for our first two visits. 3rd visit you become a commoner of the resort.

The only thing going for this resort is the beach areas... not the beach itself. And they only way you will enjoy the beach areas are with VIP bracelets. Sorry for the bad news, but that is just how it works here.

VIENNA COFFEE SHOP....the best place in Lifestyles, but again, gold VIP and above, so if you aren't members, you won't get to try it. Azules for lunch time is the second best place on the resort, but again, for gold VIP and above.

Are the few places that are exclusive great...yes....worth the membership in my opinion...NO. I wish I would have walked away, but since I didn't, I tried to enjoy it. But the both of us getting deathly ill this time kinda put a damper on the trip.

Entertainment at night is pretty lackluster, and if you are here during the rainy season...it is either standing in the rain for the entertainment or going back to your room.

I will always give a solid 3 stars for this resort...any resort within Lifestyles Puerto Plata...because of the couple of perks I get as VIP but if I was anything less than VIP...I wouldn't be able to give anything other than a 1.

I mentioned earlier about new construction being for owners...while the rest of the resort is falling apart. Ceilings leak within several of the buildings. Look at the forest growing on the roof of The Pearl. Some of the sidewalks are very poorly lit at night... almost fell twice due to not seeing a step because it was too dark. Cofresi Beach is pitiful...the sand is all washed away, and there is nothing nice to relax on there. I drank my far share during my trip... I would say I was barely buzzed, which tells me that the alcohol is watered down.

It was fine.

We went to this hotel for cheap during the low season as part of a promotion. And we got a cheap vacation. There was sun (and when it rained it was a warm rain), there was a place to lounge in the sun, I didn’t have to do any chores for a week. I consider my needs met. If you have expectations beyond that, this may not be the place.

Our primary issue was with the facilities and not at all the staff, who were working with limited resources. I want to be really clear about that, because they did help us have a good time and I felt bad that they didn’t have more to work with.

There is a big difference between what you have in the cheap seats and what you get as a full member, so I’d recommend that anyone who wants to know what the club actually offers go on the tour of the full property – which is huge, a mini-city. The cheap people beach, for example, was decorated with ancient, broken plastic lounge chairs, eroded litter-strewn sand, and often smelled like sewage. You could get a cocktail that tastes like Kool Aid or some beer in a tiny plastic cup. The VIP beach by contrast was lovely, many luxurious hanging beds, a range of drink options at the bars, and snack options, with soft sand and beautiful surf. (Okay, the waves were exactly the same 50 yards down the beach on the VIP side, but the context was just so starkly different it *seemed* like they were better).

The buffet hall was as much as you would expect, although Dominican Night was delicious and you can get fresh items off the grill with a bit of patience. The Casablanca has less of a cafeteria ambiance than its sister facility The Pearl. The short list of specialty dinner restaurants available on the promo tour through reservations weren’t outstanding but they were worth the trouble of booking to have variety during the week. Again, VIP Members have a longer list to choose from and might have some very good options, we didn't get to try any.

We paid for a Spa service mostly to gain access to the promised amenities like Jacuzzis, sauna and healthy snack bar for our week, thinking it would mimic having a more VIP-like experience, but discovered that the amenities were mostly broken, semi-functional, or non-existent, so it wasn’t really an upgrade. On the other hand, the massage was stupendous.

Like I said, the benefits available to the VIP Members seemed lovely from the tour – a dramatic difference from what you had access to on the discount promotional stay. But if I were looking at a 30-year contract like the one they’re selling, it would give me pause to see how much money is going into new construction (a ton of it happening) while the old construction falls into such disrepair.

Very good stay! You have access to the entire resort and other hotels, except the VIP sections (if you don’t book VIP)
Pools and view are amazing. Our days were perfect with our bartender Wilfredo (el fory)!! He kept the day going with music and drinks. Amazing person as well. The best daquaries !!
Food was great - they cook fresh and they have a grill that you can choose what to eat daily. But, you have to walk further to the Tropical hotel as the Cofresi buffet isn’t well put out. Hotel rooms were mediocre, some sections are newer than the others. Lots of moisture from the heat and the AC units are controlled by the housekeeping - you can ask to put it up or down.
Overall great stay !
The hotel is situated on a mountain / many hills so if you are unable to climb stairs, don’t book here.

Avid Traveller and very fair on reviews

The good:
There is a decent and clean pool.
Buffet staff are absolutely amazing.
Food quality it decent for sure.

The bad: (get ready)
No hot water in low end rooms so be prepared to upgrade and pay more to move rooms to have a warm (not hot) shower. Also charged for a safe and internet, was then told we should not have been and they'll refund at a date.
Don't lose your plastic, one time use wrist band, $200US charge if you do.
The welcome at reception was two threatening letters including all items in the room that you will be charged for if missing.
Staff at beach pool bar are rude and spend most of the day on their phones and not paying attention.
Lifeguards have a similar approach. Just watched a young abilities child accidentally end up in the deep end. The Lifeguard watched from the far end while the very good and observant mom jumped in fully clothed. I understand it's her responsibility, but the guard should have gotten up to at least assist.
Please go to the gym for a few months prior to coming here. Stairs beyond stairs to get around and the so called shuttle is inconsistent with what they call 25 minute intervals. So if you miss it, you have no way of knowing when it comes back.
A La Carte reservations can only be made by hiking the steps to guest services in person and only made between 9am and 11am. Most restaurants are already booked up by members anyway and others are simply closed.
No beach towels near beach or beach pool, hike those steps again!! (And I'm in shape and not overweight!)
The resort is not clean, cups and bottles in corners everywhere and not ever cleaned up.
Beach, there really isn't one, the pictures online are not of this beach. There's a rocky and dirty area above a retaining wall with some old chairs and day beds.
Don't expect lunch at the beach as advertised, the restaurant is closed. Small snack bar with hot dogs and hamburgers. Make that hike to the buffet!!

I really wanted to like this place. For starters it is a LOT of walking uphill. They seem to want to upsell golf carts and I watched at least 6 golf cart related accidents. On top of that they drive busses and cars on the walkways around the resort.

The big issue is a resort wide smell. Sewage. I hope that the picture I posted of a large pipe running thru the place isn't a drain field dumping into the ocean. But it sure smells like it.

The beach was bad. Brown sand. Small. And smelled like sewage.

The food is on the lower end of the buffet world. Our friend got a vip package and his room was the same as ours. It was not clear where you could eat other than the buffet. They had no wifi at all even if you wanted to pay. The printed map they gave us was fuzzy and impossible to read.

The TV didn't work. The ac kept the room at a decent temp but humidity was insane. My cel phone regularly told me to remove water from the charge port just when sitting in the room.

Let's talk about checkout. They have some strict rules about check out. At 11am there were 200 people in line. For those of us that actually travel and can't spend half the day I'm their hot lobby there was no way to expedite. I left my towels in the room. Huge mistake and had to go back and prove I didn't steal them or fact distopian charges. They threaten to charge $200 if you don't turn in their generic inclusive band on checkout.

I probably will never come back to puerto plata because or this place. The next night we traveled down to sosua to stay and we really felt like we were arriving in south beach miami after confressi palm.

The staff was very friendly, resort was clean. Pools were well maintained and clean. The VIP beach area was well maintained, clean, and safe. The bartenders were amazing!
Negatives:
beds are really hard, pillows are lumpy
showers are cold
TIPS:
1 hour free wifi is available per day.
Get a massage at the Cofresi side of the resort, the spa is amazing! A bonus is the free smoothy bar and the use of the spa for the entire week if you book your massage as soon as you arrive. Free WiFI in the spa area. The pool in the spa area is an escape in itself, it is a quiet oasis.
I booked airport to resort transportation with Amstar. Travel was seamless, Felix our Amstar rep met us at the resort with a huge smile, he shared tips about the resort and the culture. He booked our excursion. He also made sure the proper documentation was completed so travel back home was also seamless.
Excursion:
We decided to take the excursion to the Waterfalls which was combined with Monkeyland. The waterfalls were amazing. This activity is not for the faint of heart. We walked a trail for about 35 minutes, jumped, or slid off the waterfalls into the water. If you do not know how to swim or are afraid of the water I would not take this excursion.
Bring water shoes otherwise you can rent them for $8.00 and they are required. If you bring your phone make sure it is in a waterproof case.
Floricel and Antonio were amazing tour guides, they were so much fun, knowledgeable, and energetic!

Landed here for a 60th birthday party, we were booked as a party 36! That’s when the nightmare started. We flew in from various locations from the Uk and USA. Once in reception we were taken to a so called VIP check in, the room can hold a maximum of 10 people. In fairness all the rooms had all been allocated, then we had to pay without been allowed to check the rooms! This is where it stars to get worse, we have a so call van/ caddy take you to you room the, the van has ripped seats, broken everything, too much to list, you kind leave the complex and back in to get to your block, and oh my god it just keeps getting worse, no lifts, broken steps and handrails and when the finally get you to your room oh my word it stinks oh damp and mould! So toilet doesn’t flush the waste, shower trickles cold water no hot only if your lucky, no safe lock you need to pay daily, no WiFi you need to pay daily [you get an hour free a day] the rooms are so damp the sheets are wet, tv snowy can’t watch, oh by the way we are VIP guest, we all went back to reception to sort rooms, and after getting there at 5.30pm 5 hours later they told us they can give us temporary rooms till the morning or take what you got! There is no management in place just young kids trying there best. Every time you talk they leave to go in a room to talk to someone and comeback with nothing! Day 2 another 4 hours in VIP service waiting to be moved [just a reminder it’s at least 20 of us that needs changing, they keep you there and talk and talk and nothing. They won’t refund so you can leave it’s just drawing! Any after 3-4 days everyone final gets something bearable. Few paid to go in the villas and 5here nightmare is a different story but basically no water in the mornings is a major problem! No settled drinks and food! Drinks are all local unless you manage to find a VIP bar. The food is ok the drinks taste watered down. Now if your of my age this pace is definitely not for you it’s very long walks from place to place with a shuttle that comes every 20mins! The hotel is on a massive hill so walk up and down is very difficult. If you any problems there nobody of any authority to help, once you in you in! We were here for 7 days and couldn’t wait to leave. I’ve been very honest in this review. The actual day to to day safe are fantastic but the desk bods can’t do nothing to help. We were VIP I dread what the others have to deal with! We’ve been to Dom Rep before and stayed on the other side which was fantastic. But avoid this place if you can or check before you pay

The service both at the guest service and the front desk is very poor, all the employees pass the buck when it comes to resolving a problem. We had a smell of sewage in the room, the patio door that didn't lock and a window that didn't close but no one came to check. The rooms are nowhere near like the pictures they show when booking. There is no water pressure in the shower and no hot water. The hotel is not well maintained.
The food in the buffets is either very salty or tasteless, and the same at lunch and dinner without much choice. On the other hand, the lunches are OK.

There is little space for normal guests, everything is made for VIPs which reduces the customer experience. We are constantly reminded that we do not have a VIP bracelet so we cannot sit on this side of the beach or even eat sushi at the small snack bar on the edge of the beach.

This hotel is far from being a 4 star, even a 3 1/2 I find that it is a bit pushed. There are clearly better hotels with better customer service. This hotel is not worth the price you will pay to come.

We spent 4 weeks at this place and we would not recommend the "Resort" to anyone who likes a clean inviting beach. We tried to enter the waters only once and luckily did not get sick because there were several streams of dirty smelly water flowing into the Sea.

If you like a quiet environment and clean air this place will not be your best choice.

Many rooms have a passage door to the next room which is so thin that you might hear/smell everything on the other side; however, should you get rowdy neighbors the security staff react very quickly.

We would only consider visiting the place again for the mostly friendly staff.

Upgrading into VIP essentially means buying into their program. From what I recall it was over $20K. Doing this includes access to a website for booking future vacations, free stays in the future, and access to the golf carts for you and select family members. There are varying tiers that get you better access (like home rentals, all inclusive, etc...). There is not a $1-2K package available that gets you access to a golf cart, or better restaurants. At least not that we were offered.

The entire resort is open to you except for any VIP areas. Which the shows are not VIP events.
