Last month-September 2016-I spent 5 nights at Casa Colonial Maruchi and overall I was very disappointed. To be positive first, the room that I was given was clean and it was serviced on a daily basis-this was unusual because my experience of casas particulares in Cuba is that they are not serviced until the guest checks out.The casa is centrally located, perhaps a...

Having arrived early in the morning, we stepped into the dark house and were immediately taken by its atmosphere: the house is like a living thing combining its colonial past visible in the furniture and decor with Santeria practices - this is not a museum, but staying here allowed us to understand a little more about Cuban culture, its curious...

What a marvelous place with fantastic people who run the casa. It is the third time that I visit Santiago in 2 years and I have found the CASA. I stayed there 7 days. The room was clean, each day the room was arranged, the food was marvelous, the people helpful and sympatic, the inside garden and the decoration exceptionals....

We reserved this house (2 rooms for one night) by phone four months before our arrival (in september 2015 for a stay in early january 2016), confirmed by phone call, always in september. And 2 weeks before our stay, we make an other phone call : everything was ok. But when we arrived, there wasn't any rooms available. The owner...

We choose this casa because of its good review in Lonely Planet. We stayed in one of the courtyard-facing rooms and it was very noisy as all the family living seems to take place right outside this room from 8am until late at night. The "legendary food" Lonely Planet discribed was also very disappointing: we had very dry meat, no...

Honestly, after reading the description in the lonely planet guide we came to Casa Maruchi with great interest. The communication we had by mail with the owner of the Casa was good, same it was the telephone call we had with her just 3 or 4 days before arrival. Unfortunately, as soon as we arrived, we had the impression that...

We booked this casa through an agency for 2 nights (We had read reviews about the interesting santeria objects on the premises). We were not disappointed: the living room looked fascinating and there was a patio with rich vegetation. We had a warm welcome by the owner's daughter who offered us welcome drinks. The room was nice and clean. It...

After reading such great things about Casa Colonial Maruchi in the Lonelyplanet guidebook and having stayed at other wonderful casa particulares in Cuba I was excited to stay here for a couple of nights. I’m not sure if the reason our stay was so unpleasant was because Maruchi wasn’t there and her daughter was running the house, or maybe the...

This place is recommended by the Lonely Planet (edition Oct. 2014), but really don't bother going here for diner (I'm explicitly not judging on the place as a casa, just a paladar)! The setting is lovely in a wonderful patio rich in vegetation as part of a great colonials house, including strolling turtles and begging cats (can't blame them when...
