My fourth visit to Tropicoco. This is a very basic establishment that provides access to a nice beach (across the street) and free shuttle service to Havana. Food is less than basic, but you will not starve. Rooms are liveable with a fabulous view, specially from the upper floors. It's a good base for Havana and Guanabo if you are...

For such a cheap price with all exclusive food and drinks and right near the beach I absolutely love Hotel Tropicoco. Some nights they have a free salsa performance. Please keep in mind it's an old hotel but most of the hotels in Cuba are the same. Staff was really friendly. As a single traveler I love the fact it's...

Perfect location for your next horror movie. Since we had no option for our last two days in Cuba before going back home, we booked at Tropicoco. This place is disgusting and there is no excuse for such awful management. Tropicoco it's a shame for Habana and Cuba in general and should be closed to stop harming the reputation of...

Nothing special - it's not really a resort (although it is across the road from a beach) and it doesn't offer a culinary experience (although the food is edible and filling). But some people love the place: that week we met a European man who's been there 40-50 times, a Canadian who's been there +20 times, and another guy who...

Please note that Cuban standards are generally well below what a European would expect. My selections of the levels for---Service----Cleanliness----Value--Location----Sleep Quality-----Rooms are given on that basis. Having seen the previous reviews i agree that ( judged by our standards) the cleanliness of my room was atrocious indeed i had to use my baby wipes to clean the wardrobe areas before...

Alberto Rodriguez is the reason for my positive rating. From 5 star hotels down, what makes the difference is not so much the facilities, but the people you encounter. Rarely have I seen customer services skills like the ones on display from this young chap in the 2* Hotel Tropicoco. He is on a hotel management course at college and...

We wanted a beach vacation with easy proximity to Havana. Reception wasn't great (make sure you have your reservation printed out) and I had to bring my own a 2 small childrens' bags from bus myself. Room was ok, nice bathroom. Maids available on each floor. They were so nice to my kids. Food was acceptable. I'd read another helpful...

Avoid this hotel at any cost - the moment you walk in you will feel that you are back to the 1970s. The only advantage this hotel has that it is on the beach - however the room, amenities, service etc do not justify the price

I would not go to this property ever again. i had stayed here for 3 days with few of my friends. Staff here is so rude. the food timings are so limited and the food quality was pathetic with literally no choices and repetitive in all the meals. Rooms had all sorts of problems. Water leakage, ants, AC making noise,...

Well, bear with me, because this will be a long review. If you're too busy to read it all, skip to the end for the "big news". Let me start by saying I just spent another great week at my favorite beach spot near Havana. Changes keep-a-coming and some stuff is still stuck in the "Cuba" limbo, but... Things are...

My brother was wondering if this would be a good hotel for his girlfriend, 12 yo son,and his adult children to travel to, for a 1 - 2 week vacation. The adults are considering taking day trips into Havana, and leaving the 12 yo at the hotel, whilst they do this. (I have my own opinions about this, however they are not shared! Don't roast me!)

Are there facilities for children, ie nanny/babysitting services? Realizing they are "older", but still not quite old enough to amuse themselves for that extended period of time. Is the beach safe? Is there security, lifeguards?

No one in the group speaks Spanish - is the staff conversant in English? Do they have medical facilities or a doctor ON staff, 24/7? (My young nephew has some medical conditions that may flare up)

I am wondering if this is a "safe" place for the kind of vacation my brother envisions??

Please understand, I am looking for the input of other travellers. I have travelled extensively to Cuba, speak understandable Cubano, but have NOT been to this hotel. Personally, I would feel comfortable leaving a child alone in a hotel where I knew the staff, only if I were in the general area AT the same location and only for short periods (couple of hours) .... given that this boy neither speaks the language, nor tends to not be "streetsmart", I definitely lean towards a more family friendly resort (and vacation).

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but hope that past and regular guests of the hotel could respond. Thanks so much, and I really am appreciative of ALL input
