Despite the negative reviews, this hotel has some things to recommend it: terrific breakfast from the rooftop (wonderful views), some old-world charm, etc. Plus, the location is hard to beat -- on Parque Central in Havana Vieja. But our room was in mediocre condition, things worked only some of the time, and the price seemed awfully high. If you must...

I needed one night's accommodation in December between a Varadero holiday and a Casa I had booked in Havana Vieja, so chose the least expensive hotel - but still 200 CUC (£166). Others I'd asked described the hotel as tired but adequate. The bar was ok as was the service, but the room (254) was a big let down. The...

Overall, if you have a choice, stay somewhere else! The hotel is a crumbling old place that needs a lot of work to make it at least tolerable. The service, when checking in and out was ok and the staff was somewhat friendly. Our first room was awkward to get into (door opened a third of the way), noisy (facing...

Excellent, this hotel is in a good position for seeing Havana, excellent attention, great lobby. Staff are completely helpful, thanks Hotel Plaza. Having said that, that is reflective of the whole old Cuba.

This hotel is in a good position for seeing Havana, however I found it depressing. The rooms are dirty and run down. There is shabby chic and there is plain horrid. This was horrid. Staff are completely unhelpful and miserable. Sometimes there is currency to change, sometimes not, with a shrug of the shoulders. Having said that, that is reflective...

Believe the poor reviews and stay in a Casa if you can. I was staying here as I was joining a group tour there and it was booked by the tour company. The rooms are grim, dark, noisy, with plasterboard instead of windows?! Probably not very safe! The showers are poor and the bathroom wasn't clean. The building is impressive...

Very difficult to take a shower with no water let alone hot water. Great location in middle of everything and great lobby but would rather stay somewhere else . Needs to be updated and was in the process.

The building has had it! Built in 1909 and held together by faded dreams and the roaches holding hands, I think. The rooms are in a sorry state of disrepair with broken towel bars, sinks and shower heads. Water, like the internet is sporadic. They are trying: our doors had been freshly painted with oil-based paint which lost its pungency...

Supposedly this is a four star hotel; perhaps there is a planet somewhere in the universe where that is true, but it isn't this planet. The hotel is in a great location, with easy walking access to Old Havana, the ocean, and major museums. It's also across the street from the Parque Central Hotel, whose lobby you will find much...

Our original room - with 3/4 sized mattresses on twin bed frames - was in dire need of cleaning and renovating, but fortunately we were unable to get the room safe to lock so were moved to a slightly cleaner, updated room with a thin double mattress on a queen-sized box spring (and a working safe). Our friends were not...
