It's important to note that this review is rated for a budget stay. For a budget stay less than 150ft to the beach front in Barbados, its an amazing place to be located. I'm here for 6 weeks and at such a great value for what you have it makes sense. Yeah it's not a 4 or 5 star hotel with all the facilities but if that's what you want then expect to pay 4 to 6 times the price per night in comparison to this fantastic budget guest house. The guesthouse owner is very friendly and polite, always ensuring that you have what you need. The rooms are OK and the facilities are great. Superb location on the beach and a 5 minute walk to St Lawrence Gap.

I’ve stayed at Cleverdale 4 times since 2009. My family and I love it. Bridget is an amazing host. The beach is typically amazing and one of our favorites. The sewage issue was an island wide issue that upset many many travelers trips for 6 months. Even my parents had to delay a trip during that time. Cleverdale for a place to rest and keep our stuff while we enjoy the magical Island of Barbados. It’s clean and has all the amenities you need without spending unnecessary money on frills. The island is the frill and the thrill. Don’t go to Barbados if you are a sit in your hotel room all inclusive type of person. Go to Barbados if you like to explore, immerse yourself in local culture and enjoy simple living! As I said Cleverdale is the perfect home base. Clean, Quaint and Central.

We never received our deposit. Our vacations was cancelled due to Covid in may and the hotel never gave us our money, after several email attempts. Consider booking at bigger trusted places, mostly these days with the uncertainty of the Covid19

This is my first review, and after a much needed break from work decided to see what the delights of Barbados had to offer..I booked as a lone traveller, at this Very run down Guest house, which claims to be "On the Beach" when infact it is not! you walk across a little road through the remains of an old property and then you are on the beach..which was closed due to terrible sewerage problems..which I was told before flying that it was resolved eh NO!!!!! The place smelled terrible both in and out of the guest house, sometimes making me want to be sick, it was disgusting and I agree completely with the previous reviewer whom I met and and went on the catamaran trip with. He's right about the smell, in the House and the Cockerels from the early hours every morning! that's when i decided to leave and stay at the Hilton further up the coast..yes it was more expense however I just couldnt stand the place. I read the positive reviews before I decided to book, and I now know why there indeed positive reviews, its because the proprietor Bridgett, begs you to leave a good review, citing poor health issues and price rises, to gain your sympathy to leave said good review. The place is in serious need of a lick of paint, and a makeover, that combined with the disgusting smell, and the cockerels made it a no brainer for me to leave for alternative accommodation. Its such a shame reading Bridgette's "defensive" replies to other reviewers, when all the negative comments are absolutely 100% true!! I think that overall it it was a health hazard to stay there with the Sewer problems..absolutely disgusting..and shame on those people who wrote glowing reviews all because they had a twang of sympathy for Fraulein Bridgett!! Zero out of five!!

I am sorry but in this case the person who made this review was the girlfriend of the son who was also drunk every day. So no need for me to write the same again. The complete guesthouse was painted last August, 2018. Sure if a person can and have stayed in the Hilton in Barbados which cost more than 6 times than how much I charge they have other expectations. Yes there was an issue with the sewage which was resolved Christmas. Even guests who stayed at that time have already booked my place again. We have many repeat guest. The sewage problem was not my fault and there was nothing what I could had done to make things easier. The Government told us that it would be resolved soon and I had no idea that the problem would not have been resolved until these guest have arrived. Yes, I was sick at that time because I had a heart problem and couldn't stay any stress. Sorry if I have made the person feel that she should left a good review. Anyhow I am sorry that the person was disappointed and had expect more for the small price we charge. My house and apartments are cleaned well, no smells or whatsoever and I can't be responsible for what the Government is doing. All hotels and guesthouses in the area had the same problem at that time. God bless that many guests have make reviews before and after on all kind of websites so future guest would know that the accommodation is nice and well located. There is always a description about the place and it always says that the place is opposite the beach. Yes, they are roasters in Barbados like everywhere in the world. The beach is open since Christmas 2018 and there is no more smell God bless Brigitte Taylor

Firstly, I aimed for a budget/ cheap self catering trip. And that’s exactly what it was. No frills..in a fairly shabby very old colonial house.. Very close ( 20 seconds walk across a small road onto a derelict car par park or where a house once was’ then onto the beach which was closed due to sewer problems and workman laying a new large sewer pipe out to Sea. Bridgett did tell me on WhatsApp discussions before I flew it was sorted and open. She openly lied. It wasn’t and it stank ! Let me tell you that lying in bed with the smell of Sh*t wafting through the house is not pleasant at all. Good kitchen amenities and rooms are clean, some bigger than others.. we moved into a larger room whilst there when a solo guest departed to stay at the Hilton ( that tells you something ?) all beaches up the west coast are easily reachable by a succession of small bus taxis that sound their horns pick you up for $2 bajan dollars and take you pretty much as far as you want to go.. bridge town and beyond...they’re great. Outside the house there are a group of approx 8-9 hens and 4-5 Cockerals or roosters for our American friends ! Which “ go off “ one after the other from about 3am - 9am right outside the rooms!!! Believe me if I had had a gun!!!! 🤬 I also agree with the previous reviewer about the “unsavoury” group of guys hanging around by the trees across from the house.. they’re friendly and no risk at all ffs get a life and talk to people say hello ! There were a few very poor people who came up to the steps by the verander and asked for money or a ciggerette , again harmless and polite.. Bridgett has some health issues and is slightly neurotic, and did lie to me about the sewer works...would I stay here again?.... NO..however if all you want is a very cheap bed for the night with no frills , self catering in a shabby , old authentic Bajan colonial house then go for it... but make sure the sewer works are finished, and the roosters are dead!!!! 🤣🤣 On a positive note if you looking for a great day trip I recommend the Tiami Catamaran trip up the west coast from Bridgetown! Great fun!!

I am very concerned that guest can write any reviews which are mainly lies and management who was telling the truth are accused of being liars. The company doesn’t take off those wrong reviews and make us look like the worst. My suggestion would be that guest who read reviews should know that the owners of places can be as nice and truthful as possible, provide a reasonable and fair priced accommodation in a good location are still accused to provide a bad accommodation. Some guest even try to blackmail us owners if we don’t give them what they ask for. Vacation-rental business is the hardest these days. In this case the person who made this review was drunk every day from morning till night. The police called me as he was fighting on the road with his son on their departure day. I stopped the police from picking up the man and charge him so he could leave the Island. I ask a taxi friend to take him to the airport as taxi drivers usually doesn’t drive drunk guests anywhere. God bless that many guests have make reviews before so future guest would know that the accommodation is nice and well located. This man might had the wrong expectation or was just too drunk to understand. Yes, they are roasters in Barbados like everywhere in the world. The beaches are allowed to use for everybody and locals are use them and hang out there as well at times. There are no private beaches in Barbados and locals and visitors enjoy them. Therefor you will see locals on the beaches. Guest from all over the world have made friends with locals as the Bajans are very nice people. There is a property opposite the house which was used from the workers of the sewage as car park at his visiting time. Yes, sometimes there was a smell from the sewage on the road but not in my house. I am sorry for that but it is not my fault when the Government do work without our knowledge. Anyhow I didn’t lie when I told the guests that the beach would be open. I just told the man what the Government told us accommodation owners. Yes, the beach was closed longer than expected but I couldn’t know in advance. The beach is open since Christmas 2018 and there is no more smell God bless that many guests have make reviews before so future guest would know that the accommodation is nice and well located.
