We had a wonderful stay, very relaxed! The only minor negative is that although robes are provided for use of the spa, there were no slippers.
The food is absolutely delicious, great menu choices and big portions - it was the biggest prawn cocktail I've ever seen in my life (and not just made up with salad but full of prawns!). We were told when booking that the restaurant would be closed that evening and that we could eat in the bar. That was no problem at all as the atmosphere was lovely. However, when ordering we were told we could only have one course. This didn't seem fair as the package we booked states a 3 course meal and is available Thursday to Sunday. This hiccup was short lived thanks to the lovely Ethan who was very understanding and accommodating - he went off to resolve the issue and we indeed had 3 courses (mind you, the portion sizes are so big, one course may have been enough.....eyes too big for our bellies haha).
Ethan continued to check that our needs were met throughout the evening and made pleasant conversation when time allowed, continuing this excellent customer service at breakfast the following morning. He is a credit to your establishment.
The vegetables weren’t sloppy, still with a slight bite, with a nice selection and the gravy was full of flavour.
I liked the way a table at a time were invited up to the display, then served and your plate carried back to your seat. From the host, carvery servers and table service we felt well looked after.
The people I dealt with in organising the even were superb, excellent fast responses to email queries and great in setting up the room and catering to our exact requirements including vegan & gluten free options. The young chap Ellis who was responsible for looking after us on the evening was extremely polite and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Location wise it’s still only 5 minutes off the M4 at Newport with good A roads so convenience to the motorway was ultimately no issue. There is ample on site parking too which unlike other previously mentioned establishments is free of charge.
Parkway Hotel - your staff are a credit to you and I would happily use and recommend this hotel as a first choice in the Cwmbran & Newport area for conferencing services again.
On this occasion the young lady on reception (Rhiannan) was very helpful and sorted out the room next door and offered to help us move our belongings, so moving was not too stressful. We became quite friendly and every time she saw us after that she checked that we were okay.
All the staff on the reception area, the bar and the restaurant were very friendly and are the hotels best asset and were eager to find out what our coach party had been up to and engaged in conversation that showed they were interested, and not just paying us lip service.
Their breakfast menu was very good, but they do not warm the plates to use so to put bacon on a cold plate it doesn't stay hot very long, but there is a wide choice. The evening meal selection was limited and not to everyone's pallet and there was supposed to be tea and coffee to finish but it was only put out one night. If you wanted something at lunch time prices were expensive and if you had no transport there was nothing nearby that you could use.
Overall we enjoyed our break and the hotel is close to places you want to visit but, I would hope if we happened to use this hotel again they have put the niggly little faults right.
This delightful family-owned hotel has a team in place who are passionate about delivering a great experience for their guests. But this is no surprise - having met the General Manager when she took the time to come over and introduce herself to us, whilst we were enjoying a post-dinner coffee. This is clearly a hotel manager who is leading her team from the front.
Woman behind bar in lunchtime miserable and rude.
No I would not go to this hotel again, it’s looking tired, and god forbid if you take water from bar at bottom end of hotel overlooking pool, unbeknownst to me it was for a conference, and at that time I wasn’t feeling too well and just wanted a glass of water, this miserable bar maid told me to go to main bar for one!! Great when you aren’t feeling too good!
