My friend and I were on the Classic Champagne Break which, at £85 per person, is excellent value for money - twin room, bottle of champagne in our room on arrival, use of leisure facilities, 3 course meal and full welsh breakfast. We were able to leave our bags whilst we went shopping and the reception staff were attentive on our return with our room being ready to check in early.

We had a wonderful stay, very relaxed! The only minor negative is that although robes are provided for use of the spa, there were no slippers.

The food is absolutely delicious, great menu choices and big portions - it was the biggest prawn cocktail I've ever seen in my life (and not just made up with salad but full of prawns!). We were told when booking that the restaurant would be closed that evening and that we could eat in the bar. That was no problem at all as the atmosphere was lovely. However, when ordering we were told we could only have one course. This didn't seem fair as the package we booked states a 3 course meal and is available Thursday to Sunday. This hiccup was short lived thanks to the lovely Ethan who was very understanding and accommodating - he went off to resolve the issue and we indeed had 3 courses (mind you, the portion sizes are so big, one course may have been enough.....eyes too big for our bellies haha).
Ethan continued to check that our needs were met throughout the evening and made pleasant conversation when time allowed, continuing this excellent customer service at breakfast the following morning. He is a credit to your establishment.

Not a great fan of a carvery, but this was very good. Each of our party had different meats and all thoroughly enjoyed.
The vegetables weren’t sloppy, still with a slight bite, with a nice selection and the gravy was full of flavour.
I liked the way a table at a time were invited up to the display, then served and your plate carried back to your seat. From the host, carvery servers and table service we felt well looked after.

I had the pleasure of organising an event for 30-40 fellow professionals here at in the Pembroke room. I initially contacted the Celtic Manor (purely for M4 location convenience) to enquire but had no reply for over a week so I contacted here and got a response to my enquiry the same working day so it’s clear who is interested in having the business!

The people I dealt with in organising the even were superb, excellent fast responses to email queries and great in setting up the room and catering to our exact requirements including vegan & gluten free options. The young chap Ellis who was responsible for looking after us on the evening was extremely polite and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Location wise it’s still only 5 minutes off the M4 at Newport with good A roads so convenience to the motorway was ultimately no issue. There is ample on site parking too which unlike other previously mentioned establishments is free of charge.

Parkway Hotel - your staff are a credit to you and I would happily use and recommend this hotel as a first choice in the Cwmbran & Newport area for conferencing services again.

“China teapots’ and “many afternoon options to choose from”, “served on a traditional stand”, “a total taste & visual sensation”. These descriptions from the website could not be further from the experienced we had. There were no china teapots, staff come around pouring the tea from jug flasks. The sandwiches were served all together on one large plate to a table of eight of us. Apparently arranged in sets of four each but this was not explained, so it was more like a free for all buffet. There was no information on the fillings. The scones and Welsh cakes were served on dinner plates. The only finesse was the cake stand for the sweet pastries. Ok, so we were a large party of six tables, but the quality of content and service was not what was expected for the full price of £27 each.

We stayed as a couple on a coach holiday. This was our second visit by coach and coincidently we had a problem with our room on both occasions and had to move to another room both times. One wonders whether housekeeping ignores faults when they are cleaning the rooms and can't be bothered to report them as in our case water leaking onto the bathroom floor would have been hard to overlook and someone slipping on the bathroom floor is not what the hotel would want.
On this occasion the young lady on reception (Rhiannan) was very helpful and sorted out the room next door and offered to help us move our belongings, so moving was not too stressful. We became quite friendly and every time she saw us after that she checked that we were okay.
All the staff on the reception area, the bar and the restaurant were very friendly and are the hotels best asset and were eager to find out what our coach party had been up to and engaged in conversation that showed they were interested, and not just paying us lip service.
Their breakfast menu was very good, but they do not warm the plates to use so to put bacon on a cold plate it doesn't stay hot very long, but there is a wide choice. The evening meal selection was limited and not to everyone's pallet and there was supposed to be tea and coffee to finish but it was only put out one night. If you wanted something at lunch time prices were expensive and if you had no transport there was nothing nearby that you could use.
Overall we enjoyed our break and the hotel is close to places you want to visit but, I would hope if we happened to use this hotel again they have put the niggly little faults right.

Just come back from a 3 day (2 night stay) well-being crafting retreat held at The Parkway. Where to start. Room a very good size (double room), with all you could need, but pillows are rock hard and no heating in the room (though public areas are nice and warm). We were promised a room to craft in ( for 16 people), which on the first night, was a lovely bright room (which is needed when crafting). On the second evening we were in the same room, but the hotel saw fit to take a last minute booking for a small 18th birthday party (with a live band) and situate them in the same room as our crafting group, separated only by a thin folding partition! The noise was unbearable, windows rattling and floors bouncing and in every sense of the word was a nightmare. We were then told we had to vacate that room at 5pm (we normally craft until around 10pm) on our next session of crafting, the next day, as they ‘needed the room’ for a wedding party, so we had to pack up all our stuff (crafters carry A LOT OF STUFF), move it out into a holding room for overnight. So valuable time lost. On our last day, we were then told we couldn’t have the original room we were promised, but could use another room, so we took another hour or more to set up our stuff (more crafting time lost) where the light was very poor to craft by. Now onto the food - our stay involved 3 courses, of which there was NO CHOICE, except take it or starve! Food was not of the standard I would expect for a 4 star hotel every dish was extremely salty. If you have any special dietary requirements, expect them to be loosely adhered to, they seem to think gluten free people like to eat lots of sandwiches! Now onto the amenities. There’s a LOT of work needed in their toilets. Out of 5 cubicles in the ladies toilets 1 door wouldn’t shut and 2 cubicles had no locks, disgusting for public toilets! Out of said 5 cubicles, in EVERY one of them the toilet roll holders were literally hanging off, not a good look. If this hotel is looking to impress, they failed miserably. They are existing from their name alone and needs a LOT of maintenance. If you're looking for a luxurious stay, you won’t get it here. I’ve had higher standards at a Premier Inn and definitely won’t be paying several hundreds of pounds to stay here again. Very disappointing as this was a wellness retreat for our crafting group (led by high profile You Tubers) and all members of the group were stressed rather than relaxed. Avoid at all costs

Response from kerry jennings, General Manager at The Parkway Hotel & Spa
Responded 10 Nov 2023
Dear Ronalda. We are very sorry to read of your disappointment regarding your recent event with us. Many of your comments we disagree with and we kindly highlight that the organiser of your event chose the running order for the duration, including menu choices, crafting rooms, room changes and timings etc. We also made the organiser aware that there was a wedding booked hence the room changes. I do agree that you had many items to pack up and therefore not an ideal situation that most likely marred the whole experience for you. Overall, the event seemed very received, having personally worked the weekend and in particular your event it was clear that it was enjoyed by many. I am however, very sorry that you feel disappointed and I value your feedback and comments. Yours sincerely Kerry Jennings General Manager

Went for a carvery for Sunday lunch today. Wait and serving staff not very clued up on gluten free. Serving staff used same utensils to handle both gluten and non gluten containing ingredients and it wasn’t until I asked to speak to the chef that they agreed to plate all up in the kitchen away from any cross contamination. One of the waitresses rolled her eyes at me as I was asking questions.

Attracted by the spa facilities and close proximity to the RSPB Wetlands Reserve and the National Trust property Tredegar House - we booked for an overnight stay with dinner credit, via Secret Escapes. Without exception, every member of staff we met - from Reception, the Spa, the Restaurant, Housekeeping etc - gave us such a warm welcome, attentive service and delicious food.
This delightful family-owned hotel has a team in place who are passionate about delivering a great experience for their guests. But this is no surprise - having met the General Manager when she took the time to come over and introduce herself to us, whilst we were enjoying a post-dinner coffee. This is clearly a hotel manager who is leading her team from the front.

Went there for two nights on 10/06/22 looking forward to unwinding and relaxing in the spa. The decor is dated, and the room offered was exactly opposite to what we requested (quiet location). The reception staff does not have local knowledge which one would expect if you are a new area. The worse thing is, on the second day around 6 pm the jacuzzi was unceremoniously closed (overheating thermostat sighted as the reason) There was a wedding party and wonder whether overuse of the spa may have caused this? The lady at reception asked the GM who conveyed to offer compensation, she even asked how much and I said it is to her discretion. Low and behold in at checkout the same lady (who seemed does not like people of colour) renaged on the promise and said what compensation? Hence my generosity turned into disappointment. At £140/night it is a grossly overrated and unclean place - it is better to stay at a Premium Inn at least it is reasonable and they do not make false promises. Enjoying a jacuzzi does make difference to someone like my friend who has chronic back problems which we did mention at check-in however the management doesn't care. The only thing good is the kitchen, food, and bar staff who performed well. AVOID at all cost in these high cost ogf living, it is certainly not a breathtaking experience

Gym staff unhelpful, deputy manager unhelpful. They just read from a script!!
Woman behind bar in lunchtime miserable and rude.
No I would not go to this hotel again, it’s looking tired, and god forbid if you take water from bar at bottom end of hotel overlooking pool, unbeknownst to me it was for a conference, and at that time I wasn’t feeling too well and just wanted a glass of water, this miserable bar maid told me to go to main bar for one!! Great when you aren’t feeling too good!
