The accommodation is lovely: lots of space and a private balcony to sit out on. There is a large garden to wander in and I agree with all the positive comments written by others,.The shopping street includes a variety of eating places, from cafes and take-aways to more up-market places, and other restaurants are a short (five minute drive) away,... Milestone cottages is a collection of 3 self-contained cottages next to a spectacular estuary and wildlife sanctuary in Northland. There is a swimming pool and steps down to the shoreline. Kayaks are also available for a row across to the wildlife (bird) area. Each cottage is delightfully quirky in its decoration and also has outdoor sitting areas and access to... More

Turn right off the nightmare that's State Highway 1 and take the quiet road to lovely Mangawhai Heads and Milestone Cottages. Set in a large garden you'll find several cottages and studio rooms, a small well maintained swimming pool and a private access that leads down steps to a tidal estuary beach. The buildings are wooden cottages built in the... More

We hired Pacifica for 3 nights. Great accomodation, well equipped and spotlessly clean. We borrowed the kayaks to paddle over to the sand dunes - great fun - really dramatic setting. Didn't use the pool because the weather was a bit gloomy but it looked good. Recommend doing the cliff walk - great views and a beach with some of... More

It was my 60th birthday and this was a perfect location. We had the Gum-diggers cottage that looks out to sea. The gardens are beautifully manicured with many mature trees and the pool was fantastic. A salt water pool (no chlorine), extremely clean and able to do 'lengths'. There was Sky TV so we could watch the AB's test match... More

We had 2 nights in the wonderful Gumdiggers Cottage with views over the estuary and out to Little Barrier Island. This is self-catering at its best with all kitchen facilities in a cottage that is so full of character and charm. It is bright and cheerful, full of interesting photographs and set in lovely immaculately maintained gardens. The staff were... More

My only regret about this place is that we stayed only one night. Really characterful cottages set in lovely grounds near the sea. Homely touches like fresh milk in the cottages and homemade cake were, well, the icing on the cake. There's also a croquet set which I wish we'd had the chance to use!

Think Big Sur and you'll be close to the creative, funky, home built style of the cottages. Our cottage, Palm, had all the conveniences...microwave, 2 burner stove/oven combo (not operable at the same time), full sized frig, cookware and dining ware. Having the queen bed in the living area and 2 twins in the bedroom seemed a little odd, but... More

Was recommended by a local and we're really glad we took their advice! beautiful setting, gardens and onto the beach which you couldn't tell from brochures. Friendly owner who brings yummy home baking. Lovely accommodation.

Having stayed in motels and hotels around the world I have found one of the best only an hour's drive form home. We had booked a two night stay in one of the cheaper cottages but when we got there found that the people in that cottage wanted to stay longer so we were up graded to the magical Gumdigger's...
