Travellers' Choice

The expansive beachfront of The Sakala Resort Bali in the peninsula of Tanjung Benoa draws visitors for its tranquillity and watersports activities. Once a fishing village, Tanjung Benoa retains the timeless relaxation of Balinese life whilst boasting several local and international restaurants nearby. It's less than 30-minutes drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport (we can provide transfer) and well-connected to the rest of Bali via the Mandira Toll Road, making it an excellent base to explore other areas. In addition to our beach side more suitable for aquatic activities, we have a second beach venue suitable for swimming (Samuh Beach House) at 7-minutes away serviced by our scheduled shuttle.

The Sakala Resort Bali consists of 247 very large suites (starting 62m2) and 14 two-bedroom private pool villas of 300m2. The resort provides all the 5-star facilities that discerning travellers nowadays expect, such as large swimming pools (an infinity pool overlooking the ocean and a massive 120 meters long lagoon pool), restaurant & bars, a luxury spa, a fully-fledged fitness centre, and a Kids Club.

The resort enhances the guests' experience with world-class hospitality, spotless cleanliness, striking architecture and extensive recreational facilities.

We came to Bali for our honeymoon. The first place to stay we visited was the Sakala Resort. The entire staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious, very comfortable, clean, & tidy. The swimming pool is also very big. And coincidentally on the last day of our stay it was my husband's birthday. The staff was very kind and attentive in giving me a surprise on my husband's special day. Thank you very much, Sakala. We are very happy to be able to stay here. See you next time.

I recently stayed at The Sakala Beach Resort in Nusa Dua, and the experience surpassed all expectations. The 2-bedroom pool villa is a masterpiece with exquisite details, from hand-carved wooden doors to marble accents. Each room boasts a private tub, electric blinds, his and hers sinks, and the beds are adorned with beautiful curtains for a private, intimate atmosphere. The private pool, surrounded by lush gardens, is meticulously maintained, offering a secluded retreat. The resort's amenities extend beyond aesthetics, with a free shuttle to local shopping areas and a private beach at Sanuh exclusively for guests. However, what truly sets The Sakala apart is its exceptional staff. They personalized my friend's 50th birthday with a delightful surprise, showcasing their dedication to creating memorable experiences. Whether you prefer to stay in or explore, the resort's proximity to local shops and restaurants, coupled with on-site dining excellence, caters to all preferences. I can't praise The Sakala enough and am already planning my return next year. Kudos to the staff for providing top-notch traditional Balinese service. Thank you for a remarkable stay.

Overall great hotel to stay. The pool area is huge and not crowded. I enjoyed their breakfast offering and the staff are extremely friendly and always willing to assist. Evan was incredible and on point when it came to restaurant recommendations especially considering that the food at the Sakala beach club is not good. Overall it was a great experience.

Dear Kuki, thank you for your review! We are glad that you had a great experience in general and that you could enjoy our massive lagoon pool without the crowded feeling of other properties. We are also happy you liked our buffet breakfast and the impeccable service, but we are a bit surprised about your comment about the food in the Sakala Beach Club, as most of our guests provide great feedback of it. If there is any particular suggestion that you could make (whether it is to provide more variety or if there is any particular dish that we need to improve), we are more than happy to welcome constructive feedback. A big shout out to Evan, who is leading our fantastic team of hosts. Hope to see you back again soon!!

The friendliest genuine and kind people serving at Sakala I think what stands out for me is the lady by name Ria. She treated us like we are the only guests from organising itinerary to specialised tour guides. Honestly par excellence service. What is also amazing is the smiles, courtesy is authentic on line and with culture and believes of the Bali. We had booked room I didn’t like and Ria changed that for us in a heart beat to room with view and much bigger. The staff, in room dining , Ability to control room cleaning anytime so we can relax. And the food, Indian/ Indonesian/ international food offering with great Indonesian teas to pair. One thing u wish is that the pool opened for longer Would definitely stay here again and specifically look for Ms Ria :-)

Dear Tumi, thank you very much Tumi, your review is fantastic and as such, is much appreciated. What can we say about Ria......she is simply amazing and we are glad to read that she stood out among an already high-performing - yet extraordinarily friendly team. Our staff is by far, our very best asset - because otherwise we would just be a good resort, but our people is what makes our resort great. Long-lasting memories do not come from comfy beds or large pools, but from the interaction with the people during holidays. We thank you for your positive comment about the relaxation you were able to get, with details like the "do not disturb" or "make my room:" buttons. We also appreciate your great feedback about our food offerings, whether is at our breakfast, our beach club restaurant or at room service. Quality and consistency are super important to get also our food experience right. We noted your suggestion of the swimming pool hours. We close our pools by 7 pm when is already dark because the majority of our guests do not swim at night; so it's the right timing also for us to perform the cleaning treatment and chemicals so our pools can be perfectly clean the morning after at 7am. After a couple of hours of treatment, the pools are accessible, but we just ask our guests to be mindful with the rest of other guests. Again, we thank you for your review and your appreciation for Ria!

This is the fourth time we’ve stayed at The Sakala and will keep coming back. The rooms are spacious and comfortable including the huge bed. The beach club pool, bar and restaurant are just great and all the staff throughout the hotel are helpful, friendly and welcoming which is a credit to Demmy the Resort Manager. His dedication to making guests happy is a true example to his team who follow his lead with grace and enthusiasm. Every member of staff from management, reception, restaurants, bars, room service and all those who are unseen deserve all the praise and thanks we can give. We can’t wait to come back for another relaxing holiday.

Wow Edmel!! Thank you sooooo muuuuuch!!! This is not only a wonderful review, but also very valuable and very meaningful for all readers. For someone who stayed with us up to 4 times, it is an absolute privilege to have such a positive review. In addition, we see that you made quite a few contributions to this platform, so your opinion is important. You also summarized very well some of our core values. Our rooms are among the most spacious in Nusa Dua with Suites of 62m2 and separate living room, kitchenette and of course, huge premium bedding of 200 x 220cm. As a 5-star hotel, we do have all the facilities that our guests would expect; be a beach club, be the swimming pools, spa, gym, kids club....But most important is the hospitality business is to have excellence in service. Thank you very much for bringing up in your review how amazing our team is in absolutely all departments...including those great housekeepers that have the personalized details of the towel art arrangements, of Mr. Demmy doing its best to look after our guests with enthusiasm and genuinely friendly spirit. You don't need to thank us; is all the way around: WE thanks to you and those wonderful guests that make our property to be what it is. We certainly will be looking forward to see you back for the 5th time!!!

Stay away! This is not a 5 star hotel, not even 4 star. Other poor reviews of this hotel are fully justified … visitors need to be aware. This hotel is also not registered with Bali Hotel Association! I did read a few of the bad reviews but sometimes feel that they over exaggerate their experiences … my mistake. Worst hotel we’ve stayed at in Bali. I fully expect a response from the hotel to defend themselves, but make no mistake, this hotel is not good. We arrived an hour before check in and waited for our room to be ready, no issues with waiting as we were early. Staff were friendly and kindly allowed us to our room about 30 mins later. The hotel and room is very dated. I won’t go into detail, there are some positive points and many negative points. Not long after we got to our room we could tell the aircon wasn’t working and when I called we were told a technician was on the way to our room. Called again after an hour and was told they would send the technician immediately. Then we called for the manager a few times and we were given excuses and stories. A couple of hours later I went to the lobby and found the manager, unaware that we had requested to see him, he proceeded to tell me that engineers were on site working on the central aircon unit - we wasted more than 2 hours sitting in our hot room waiting for assistance. We understand that issues can occur, but just tell us the truth, don’t lie and tell us someone is on the way. As mentioned, the aircon is central, so don’t expect to have any real control over the temperature in your room - it’s very warm and stuffy. Ordered room service and my cocktail wasn’t bad but came in an old plastic cup - the food was ok, but not worth it in my opinion. No cutlery in the room, so we waited another 7 mins after our food arrived while the server went back to get some. We attempted to shower late in the evening, and the water was not very hot - and almost no water pressure. “Engineers” came out to assist quite promptly, they spent about 30 mins looking into the issue while we waited patiently in the bedroom. The water temp/pressure didn’t change much after they left and they left the mess behind that was made in the shower/basin area. *Water was still only lukewarm the next morning. They offered us a free breakfast to make up for the inconvenience related to the aircon - I want a refund, not breakfast! Spoke the manager who tells me that he wants to speak with me because my wife is difficult - that is so rude! My wife is upset and angry and you’re basically telling her she must keep quiet! We went back to our previous, cheaper and proper 5 star hotel … we could not spend another day/night in this badly run hotel.

Responded 5 days ago
Dear Shaun, We are grateful for your review. Yes, we sincerely value it. Negative reviews offer us a mirror to reflect on our practices, acknowledge our shortcomings, and enhance our operations moving forward. We respect the diverse opinions and experiences of our guests, even if there are instances where perspectives diverge. Rest assured, this response is not about defending ourselves, nor contesting your valued opinion, but about providing clarity for you and other readers. While you have labelled us “the worst hotel in Bali,” another guest, who stayed during the same period and has returned for their fourth visit, named us “the best hotel in Bali.” We don't claim to be the best; however, we are certain that we are far from the worst, and we diligently work to provide the highest level of hospitality. Over the past 12 months, we’ve received only 4 negative reviews out of 370, but those few also matter to us and we address them with the maximum attention. Despite our strong record, we concede that your stay was marred by certain issues. However, your comment regarding the Bali Hotel Association is not pertinent; it is a private organization with less than 5% of Bali’s rated hotels as members. Your check-in experience was positive, with our staff allowing early access to your room and serving you with warmth. The issue with the air conditioning was a result of a minor malfunction in the central unit (not in your room), which our engineering team rectified within 1 hour and 30 minutes. Our phone operator, lacking full details of what exactly the technical issue was, followed standard procedure to ask our engineers to go to your room (whilst they were actually busy working on the central unit). Rest assured that no one was lying or making excuses and this is just a missed opportunity for our phone operator to follow up with your room personally and provide a timely explanation. We apologize for this lapse in communication protocol, which we are now reviewing to improve our guest interactions when such rare incidents happen. Regarding your room service experience, the cocktail served in reusable rigid plastic glass (like the ones we use at the pool) is standard practice for safety reasons, as our room service attendants navigate a bit of distance across the resort and to prevent unnecessary breakage. The omission of cutlery was a genuine oversight, which we regret and are taking steps to ensure does not reoccur. The hot water issue in your room was indeed unfortunate. Our engineers responded swiftly, and we believe the situation was resolved, but we apologize for any residual inconvenience this may have caused. The offer of a complimentary breakfast by our manager was a gesture within our service recovery standards. Regarding the interaction with your wife, we aim to conduct ourselves with the utmost respect and it is distressing to hear that we may have appeared otherwise. Our sole intention was to have a calm and constructive talk as we always avoid confrontation when emotions are high. In conclusion, while there were minor operational mishaps, which we addressed promptly, the overall experience was not reflective of our standards due to inadequate communication from our end. We humbly accept this criticism and are saddened that your personal experience did not align with the majority of our guests. We take full responsibility and are committed to improving moving forward. Thank you

Initially I booked the lower ground floor standard double room for six nights. I only stayed in this room for one night as it had unpleasant smell due to no access to sunlight. I then upgraded to pool view suite for the remaining nights. The room was exquisite and spacious. The customer service was amazing and the breakfast was also excellent. I had a couple of maintenance related issues throughout the week, but the front counter staff were very helpful and the issues were rectified immediately. Overall the stay was enjoybale

Hi HK, thank you very much for review!!! It is much appreciated. We only have a very few Lower Ground rooms, less than 10% of the total inventory. They are the entry type and most affordable, and whilst we understand many guests would not be interested in having a room without a view; some others only come to sleep and they don't mind. In any case, we strive to provide maximum transparency in all the online platforms where our hotel is bookable, with an accurate description and recent photos (including a watermark note in the main photo). In addition, in case someone did not read the description or look at the photos (or didn't realize about the specific descriptive name of the room); we do contact our guests personally as soon as we receive the booking, just to make sure our guests are fully aware. We actually did send you a message 5 minutes after receiving your booking with an offer for an upgrade, but you may not have had the chance to read it. In any case, we are glad you could upgrade the following day to our beautifully appointed Deluxe Pool View Suite, which is more spacious (62m2) and with fantastic views of our massive lagoon pool. We are especially happy to hear that you loved our amazing buffet breakfast (highly recommended to be included in our guests package) and that the service was up to the expectations in a 5-star hotel. Whilst we are not bullet-free of some minor operational issues from time to time, what is important is that we can rectify or fix those immediately as we become aware. Sometimes, it just happens that in such large resort rooms and 30,000m2, we rely on our guests to let us know if some minor detail is not working that perhaps became undetected by more than 250 r our operational team. We thank you for raising the issue and we are glad that the team was able to find a quick and professional solution. We are really happy to hear that your experience turned around completely and you had an overall fantastic stay with us!!! Thank you and we hope to see you back again soon!

Dear Dhipa, thank you so much for your review and sharing those great photos of our food, the evening entertainment in our beach club with balinese dances...and the stunning swimming pool in your Two Bedroom Villa!! That is what it matters and nothing else: that our guests have a great time staying with us. We are glad that you found our spacious villas amazing, they are just perfect for families to have plenty of space with privacy whilst being able to access to all the 5-star resort facilities, like the kids club that you mentioned, the spa, the gym, the beach club.... And thanks for complimenting our food offerings, both at our breakfast buffet as well as in the restaurant; we try our best to offer not only variety but also quality....and of course, sourcing locally as much as we can so we can support our local community too whilst providing a great food experience. But our best asset (by far) is the team; all those name mentions are doing a fantastic job, and rest assured that they will receive our sincere congratulations for their spectacular performance, not only with you but with all our beloved guests. Thank you very much again, we certainly cannot wait to see you coming back!! Pro tip: contact us directly for special deals for repeaters!

Dear Mr. Deepak, Thank you for your review. We are glad that you found our location, service, and general property very good. With that particular appreciation to Evan, who is doing a fantastic job. However we are a bit surprised about your comment about the food, when the review immediately after yours (of a guest that stayed over the same dates) said that "the food at the buffet and restaurant were top notch". We usually have an excellent feedback about the variety and quality of our food options, both in our breakfast buffet and in our beach club restaurant. It is true that we have limited Indian dishes in our menu (although we do have a small Indian food corner in our breakfast) but mostly other international cuisine and especially Bali/local specialties as we strive to provide a more local experience and support the community by sourcing as much as we can in the island. We are also wide open to hearing suggestions for new food dishes, so we can also incorporate to our menu options for a wide variety of preferences. Thank you and hope to see you back again!
