After getting through the airport(which didn't take to long) we were met by a rep who swiftly transferd us to the hotel, we were welcomed with a refreshing fruit drink and shown quickly to our room. ( WOW )
we were surprised by the size, we had a 6ft, four poster bed there were also two single beds for the kids and still loads of room there was a small christmas tree in the cornor which was a lovley touch for the kids.the bathroom was a good size with plenty of fresh towels every day, slippers and robe were also provided.we were on the ground floor looking on to the pool.
the kids had a fabulous time we hardly saw them in the day time they were off doing all sorts of activities with the kids club,ie:arts & crafts, sports activities, they learn't how to snorkal, and do local Balanese dancing, they really enjoyed themselfs & happy kids means happy parents.
we spent most of the time on the beach soaking up the sun,the sea was welcoming,ok a bit weedy but it didn't spoil it for us, we done a lot of water sports bannana boats, jetski, parasailing, speedboat rides,& the flyfish which was a great laugh.we got a really good price with a little haggling from Bruno who was on the beach outside the hotel.
the staff at the hotel worked really hard and nothing was to much trouble, infact it was the staff that made this hotel very special they remembered everyones name would bend over backwards to fulfill your every need.
the entertainment at the hotel was not fantastic but we meet some fantastic people and we made our own entertainment. and a night out in a good resturant or entertainment bar did not cost a great deal.there were theamed evenings at the hotel and these were good and the games rooms were well equiped and you could use the sister hotel.christmas & new year entertainment was very good and we all ended up singing kareokee till 5.30am
The food was good and there was always a choice there was also a menu which had sandwiches, salads, burgers, hotdogs, pasta, and local food avaliable 24/7.the bar was als 24hours.but at midnight it moved from the main bar to down stairs.
We had a great time in Bali we had a driver for a couple of days which was only U.S 40$ per day and he took us to see the real Bali,it is a very beautiful senic country(we fell in love with it) we had a wonderful time, the elephant safari is a must do it was quite expensive at U.S 160$ for 2 adults 2 kids but it was worth every penny.
To sum it up we had a great time and we would go back again tomorrow.
After last-minute reservations, we arrived and were given a welcoming cocktail while checking in. Our room was on the "garden side", which means no beach/pool view. We asked the reception if we could have a room with a beach view and were given one at the end of the right side of the "V" shaped building. That room just totally floored us - it was in the upper floor, spacious and cool, with a nice decor and, of course, a beautiful view.
As the other reviewer mentioned, the beach is only good for sunbathing and wading (if you like wading in seaweed). Obnoxious noise from Jetskis makes even sunbathing a lesser experience. We made up for the swimming and/or beach experience by going on a sailing cruise to Lembongan on two separate days. The snorkeling there is fantastic and using a sailboat for the crossing is extremely relaxing. While in Bali you'll also want to see the interior of the island. There are a large number of day tours which shouldn't be missed. The hotel itself has a native dance show every so often. Although it's just a tad touristy, it makes for a nice evening.
The hotel food was not a gastronomic highlight, but reasonabe if the "all inclusive" price of the hotel is considered. There was plenty and for the week we were there the variety was fine (there were different "themes" for each dinner, e.g., Italian, Mexican, etc.). We especially liked the fresh fruit that were offered and also the local food. We also went to the attached Chinese restaurant, which also was OK.
The drinks are included in the "all inclusive" offers, but is limited to local brands. I don't consider myself an alcohol connoiseur, but I found the cocktails and tropical drinks quite nice.
As to being bugged by vendors at the beach - I didn't find them all that intrusive - maybe I'm just used to them from other beaches around the world.
If you're looking for a good value, this is a good place to go. If you're looking for a perfect beach and food, you'll have to shell out more and go to one of the high-end places. Also, if you want to stay away from "foreigners", this isn't the place to go. There were lots of Germans and Skandinavians here when we visited.
The hotel shares facilities with the Grand Bali Mirage, so we could enjoy the Thalasso Spa. Fantastic treatments at good prices, but for lot less money you can have a massage in a gazebo in the hotel beach with even better results!! 8/10
Beach: weakest point, completey disappointing. If you want clear water, white sands or to do snorkelling… forget about Bali. The sea is full of seaweed, for consequence the sand is also like a seaweed mattress, so you cant swim, smell bad, is dirty and honestly the hotel doesn’t bother to clean it at all, occasionally they start to do it in the afternoon, when is too late because everybody is leaving! As a plus, forget about to have a relaxing time when you have an annoying noise made for the motorized sports, and as this isn’t enough, you have people offering stuff every 5 minutes, like sarongs, massages, parasailing, crafts… anything!!! 0/10
Activities/entertainment: The hotel offers a very nice combination of activities during the day, such as aqua aerobics, crafts lessons, wood carving, cooking… also you can enjoy free non motorized sports if you are an all inclusive guest. The games room is great, with pool table, table tennis, backgammon, chess and play station!! If you want motorized sports you can do parasailing, jet ski or banana boat, at a reasonable price.. (that depends how good you are dealing with a price because everything in Bali must be negotiated!)
The problem starts at night… the entertainment, goes down to the floor… complete boring, almost nothing to do. We finished up going to a hotel next door when we wanted more fun. Karaoke nights… a couple of traditional dances at dinner time and after that all you can do is drink in the bar till 11:00 when it closes. If you want more drink after 11pm you are asked to go downstairs to the dining area where you have to then look for the staff in the games room as they are often found their playing the play station. You then end up sitting in the dining area in the near dark as they never put lights on down there. The hotel so much lacks entertainment, which guests regularly complain about (including us). If you go half board you may not find this a problem as you can get in a taxi and go off to kuta where there are some good clubs and bars but if you are all inclusive you should expect to be entertained on a regular basis.3/10
Food: the food is pretty good, nothing gourmet, but you have plenty of options in the buffet, plus a good variety of snacks out of dinner hours and an abundant breakfast. When you book the hotel they offer you at night ,A la Carte Menu but this never happens, every night you have buffet dinner at the same restaurant, so, from the first 4 initial options it gets reduced to only 2: the Pool bar or a Chinese restaurant attached to the hotel. This makes dinner time more boring, because you can get feed up of the same kind of food at lunch and dinner for 14 days, so what we finished up doing is going out for dinner because there are very good restaurants in the area at an affordable price (about £20 for a 3 course dinner for 2 persons including wine). 5/10
Staff: This is the best point of the hotel, they are extremely friendly and helpful, always with a smile on their faces. They make you feel very welcome and like at home. 10/10
Shop/Excursions: the best from Bali. Take a day at least to have a pretty good look to the heart of Bali, is a amazing country, full of temples and stunning scenarios. Fantastic crafts, paintings and jewels at great prices!! 10/10
So here's the good with the bad!
GOOD: Transfers were included. The driver was waiting right outside the departure gate with our name on his sign, so made the arrival with four small children (ages - 2, 4, 6, 9) very quick and efficient. Check-in was quick and efficient, with the really delicious welcome drinks at 10PM amazing my children who's excitement was uncontrollable. Once the all-inclusive (AI) wristbands were secured we were escorted to our bedrooms. After a quick introduction into the rooms, the only thing I was shown (which is all I needed to be shown) was how to operate the in-room safe. I never had a security issue with my iPhone and iPad being left in the room charging as well as other items. The interconnecting rooms were spacious with all our children sleeping comfortably in one room and my wife and I in the other …. there was also a spare single bed next to ours for our 2yr old. Breakfast was brilliant. As long as I can have eggs and fruit you can't go wrong with me. The Chef would cook the eggs however I wanted so my usual of 3 X 2egg omelettes with bacon one after the other in the morning, fresh fruit on the side went down well … I actually think she liked the fact that I kept coming back for more :) Lunch was always served in the poolside restaurant which for us was great as we'd get out of the pool, dry-off cover up, have lunch and then return to the pool. If we weren't hungry during lunch service we would order drinks and the usual club sandwich and fries to our lounger and eat and just laze in the pool …. never having to sign a docket or check prices on anything was just an added bonus. Dinner was rotated between poolside and the restaurant. There was also the option of the Chinese Restaurant which we dined at on our first night and the food was great! We became familiar with certain staff who were really lovely and nice and often pampered over our children which was needed because there were moments they were doing my wife's and my head in so to have the staff tell us they were not a problem was really refreshing and helped us to relax more (even after making a mess and smashing a glass and just being noisy kids). One thing I observed with the Balinese people and staff is that if you are welcoming, interact and are pleasant to them, then expect to get that in return! I saw many people who were rude and treated them poorly and they were not shy in giving substandard service which even I agree with … treat people as you want to be treated which is why I worried when other reviews said they were not friendly. I think the persona you give off is what you receive. Great swimming pool with space for every guest! We spent a large majority of everyday at the pool which was what this holiday was all about - to do nothing!!!. Being the sister property of the Grand you are able to use the Grands gym, yoga classes and swimming pool if you like …. we used the swimming pool on our first day as my sister in-law was staying with her family so we caught up there. I could definitely see that the Clubs concept was taken to another level with the Grand as it's basically a bigger, flashier version of the Club.
BAD: Now I can overlook the fact that the hotel and decor is in need of a spruce and refurb but my biggest disappointment was the mattress! If like me, you have an amazing hotel-type kingsize mattress at home, you certainly want one when you stay away from home. Even an Ikea mattress would have been more comfortable! And apart from the obvious general wear and tear of the rooms, they were spacious, clean and comfortable. The air-con worked well … sometimes too well and I needed to turn it off to stop freezing.
NEUTRAL: Buffets can become a little tiresome in variety as dishes and food items can be rotated between meal services. Working and teaching in hospitality in Australia and understanding food safety and hygiene I was worried with certain produce being out in the open for periods of time and so I just avoided these items (i.e.. seafood) But otherwise the food was generally decent although being AI it's easy to eat a lot because that what you paid for rather than just what you need and then because there's a lot of rice and breads and starchy/carby food I've definitely put on a few kilos … now thats really Bad … for my body ;-)
Overall my wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Club Mirage as it was more intimate in size for our family and we didn't have to worry about our older two children going to the pool by themselves or to get a milkshake or soda every ten minutes. Would I come back? Actually I would and more so if they got new mattresses ;) My children loved it although my 9yr old is telling me we will stay at the Grand next time … with so many options in Bali it would be nice to experience other properties, but we shall see!!!
and bottle water were served 24 hrs. Choice of food was good to meet every requirement but at times the food could have been a bit warmer when served. The entertainment in the evening was varied and also had
local flavour. The hotel has a perfect location for site seeing, shoping and all types of beach activities. My only regret is, I wished we dad another week at this palace. I will return to Club Bali Mirage next year to spend at least 3 weeks. Great country, Great
people, great food and most all your money goes a long way.
Mr and Mrs Vaz. from Bedfordshire
Meals were buffet style and the food was plentiful, however after the first week we had gone through the menu & whilst they were catering for various nationalities we got bored with the food and ate out. This is also cheap and the local restaurants provide a good range of indonesian & european menus.
The beach was ok, but not what the picture of Bali conjures up, it was busy, with Banana rides, jet ski`s etc and the sea was not exactly clean there. However it was warm and many ventured into it. There were enough sun beds for everyone & towels provided around the pool.
Many guests were there for between 2 weeks to 3 months with many returning year on year, this is a recommendation in itself. There are approx 96 rooms which meant you actualy met other people unlike the surrounding larger hotels with 3 times the rooms that appeared half empty. Also be aware of the timeshare reps there, if you go into Kuta and have a meal dont fill in the restaurant questionnaire about the food. You will receive phonecalls stating that you have won a week or other prizes. Also street surveys, these are another avenue for them to get your details and again you will win a week.
All in all we enjoyed our stay the Club Bali Mirage and would use it again.
The hotel is generally in need of updating, especially in the rooms. We arrived and instantly thought, on no.
The next day however we woke up and went down to the pool, which is quite pleasent and up to date. The staff were incredibly friendly, and only too happy to help, which is probably the best thing about the hotel.
The food on the whole was very good. Most nights dinner was situated by the pool, with a very good band on Friday / Sunday. Lunch again by the pool, with a buffet. We did not try Chopsticks as it didn't look to appetising! Only one night did we take a look at the food and decide to go out. (They basically have a different theme of food each night)
We attended breakfast once and skipped it after that. It wasn't nice at all, so as all incluive guests we just ordered snacks of the menu instead.
All drinks and cocktails etc were included, which really makes the holiday cheap.
Now, I say it was strange as the hotel was operating at 20%! I have never experienced anything like this. It was so quiet. We did not mind as we had the pool at our disposal, and didn't have to worry about people getting up and taking all the sun lounges. I felt so sorry for the staff though, who for 90% of the time were standing around waiting for someone to order something etc. The hotel also had quite a lot of Eastern European and Japanese, which wasn't a problem, although you are unlikely to make any friends if you only speak English ;-)
On the whole I would say stay at this hotel for sure, I'd also recommend the all inclusive. You could always do all inc for a few nights and then room only for another couple.
We then went on to stay at the 5* Laguna Nusa Dua, which is a completely different experience all together. I missed the all inclusive drinks for sure!
NB
The roads and beach around here are what Bali is all about, and comments about infrastructure on previous reports are obsurd. If you want infrastructure then go to Tokyo / New York on your holidays. Bafoon!!! Bali is always about cheap , good food, sun, friendly people.
One tip is to just be stern and say "NO" to people when approached to buy something (on the beach / on the road), or they may never leave you alone! Again, this is just part of their culture and should be respected.
We cannot wait to go back. HIGHLY recommended.
Entertainment was good and free and varied.
All rooms were Air Conditioned which was good. Free drinking water provided every day, beds changed and towels also. Dressing gowns provided.
We will certainly return to this Hotel in the near future.
"room on right hand side are good, we have been three times last time we had a suite looking over the pool it was very nice"Read full review
