My partner and I stayed here for two nights in February. This was just after the Chinese Travel Ban was set in place so it was very quiet. Which worked in our favour but not sure if it is always like that.

The hotel has recently changed hands I believe, and it’s clear to see that the new owners are putting a lot of money in to restoring the gorgeous traditional Balinese architecture around the grounds.

I had never been to Tanjung Benoa before and I really liked it. We checked out Nusa Dua as well but didn’t like that, it was just full of big commercial hotels. Tanjung has a more village feel to it, still with lots of nice restaurants and hotels, loads of water sports options and as always very friendly locals. We also took a moped across to Uluwatu, we’ll work a visit for a day for anyone who has not been. It took us about 35 minutes on the moped.

The hotel is set across the road from the beach, but their house restaurant is right opposite the hotel on the beach, you can’t swim there anyway as it is reserved for water sports. The hotel has a private patch of beach a few KM away, with free shuttle busses going regularly, or if you have a moped or don’t mind a walk, it’s very easy to get to.

We ate dinner at the house restaurant Tao and had a great, well priced meal. The breakfast restaurant is also very well set up with lots of options and a lovely view.

The hotel itself is huge, we were in pool view rooms which meant we had to walk a bit of a way to get to our room, but I sussed out the rooms with the best location, they are the Deluxe Premium Garden rooms, and on the ground floor so you have garden access. I think room 133 or something. There are also private villas that looked great and we will probably try one our next visit!

The pool and hotel grounds were amazing, a big play area for kids, lots of gazebos, a sunken pool bar, a beach volleyball court, in house gym and spa. There was also the sister hotel next door, the beach club opposite that, and the beach side pool at Tao restaurant that guests are allowed to use.

The rooms were very well cleaned and staff super accommodating and responsive. Yeni at reception was just lovely every time we saw her.

We would definitely stay here again, it is a great affordable hotel for couples and families alike!

We stayed at Camakila for three weeks in January. We are seasoned, older travellers. The resort itself is a work in progress. What makes this place worth while is it’s staff. It is true that the egg lady is always smiling and does remember your name(her name is Kuming I believe). The bartender Suki, who has been at this property for 18 years is friendly, makes great suggestions for places to see and knows his way around a good drink. And, he’s photogenic. A big shout out to Sumadi for the Village Walking Tour on Monday and for other activities including teaching us how to tie a sarong! Mr Greg, the GM, is clearly genuinely interested in Camakila guests and staff. He is very visible on the property from early morning and often into the evening.

Cons: if you are looking for a white sandy beach, you will need to go down the road. This area is geared to water sports. Taxis are reasonable and plenty so getting around is easy. Use Bluebird taxis as they
are metered
Pro: it’s easy to immerse yourself in local culture; small neighbourhoods are just around the corner.

Breakfast is good. The restaurant Toa is also good and is right on the beach.

This is a great Resort, actually one of the last resort Hotels on the Tanjun Benoa peninsula. the photos show this amazing pool and beach. it is true, however in order to access the beach and that specific poll, you need to cross the street, some resorts in Benoa have their property between the main street that goes across the peninsula. ON the other side there is another pool and kids would have a lot of fun. Staff were very very helpful.
The buffet breakfast is pretty ok, plenty of choices and a good indian section. If you like a place to lounge around and go nowhere camakila can offer that, and you can also use the sister hotel Sakala, that is a little bit fancier ( still have to croos the street!)
However ,the hotel is isolated and anything is a taxi ride or a GRAB ride ( Indonesian and Thai version of UBER) if you dont mind a walk... I miself like both quiet and access to some shops and restaurants at my doorstep, you do get this but you do need to walk
They do give you free shuttle to a private beach ( didnt go but others did not say much about it) or the Bali Collection an open shopping centre in the middle of Nusa Dua.
if you want a cheap massage turn left and aboout 400 mts you get a great spa.

This resort is very misleading! They advertise the beautiful private beach within the resort when in fact, it is across a busy road. It is dirty, it is disgusting, there were bits of wood with rusty nails sticking out and the beach was full of boats. We booked here solely for the private beach so our kids could enjoy without the hustle and bustle of Kuta and being harassed. This didn’t happen.

The resort was nice, the breakfast was beautiful, however it was very run down. The issue we initially had (which were fixed after complaining) included the interconnecting door that didn’t open and the shower rose wasn’t working.

There were feral cats everywhere of an arvo/ night, crying at your door for food, the pool tables had cigarette buts everywhere and the bathroom was not 5 star- see my pics of the toilet seat and bathroom. We booked for two nights but went back to Kuta after the first night and even though we requested a refund via the hotel and Agoda, this resort refused. The are misleading and we didn’t get what we booked and paid for. They told Agoda that the beach was dirty due to rain (we hadn’t had rain in a few days), we were offered a cottage accommodation- we refused as it still was not beach location.

Be wary when booking here, it’s not what the pictures describe. Also know that there is not a lot around, minimal resturants, it’s very isolated.

Dear KrysOsh, Thank you for your recent stay with us and for sharing your concerns on Triadvisor, We are sorry that we did not meet your expectations during this stay. We do have two beach areas, one is across the street and in front of our TAO restaurant. On this beach we do not recommend to swim due to the many water sports activities. The second beach is our new private beach, which is a short drive from our Hotel and a free Hotel shuttle bus is available. Thank you for highlighting our breakfast buffet and we will certainly share your comment to the Restaurant team. Regarding the cats, unfortunately they jumping across the Resort walls from the village. We have informed our team already and we are on progress to catch them. Also we have informed our team to pay more attention to the cleanliness in the game area. Concerning Agoda, in case the booking is done with a non-refundable discounted rate, the booking policy from the agent is not refundable. Despite our offer to upgrade to a private cottage we were not able to improve your stay and you did choose the busy Kuta area. Indeed our location is in a relaxed area of Bali, with nearby villages and restaurants. And our team is very happy to explain more in details regarding the surrounding attractions/activities. Once again thank you for your recent stay with us and we do hope to welcome you back in the near future. Kind Regards, The Management Team

Stayed here 2 nights, checked in 30/12/19.
A/C is old and does not function properly. Coldest was already set at 20 degrees and full power set on 3. I called to make a complaint to the Front Desk in which then a Handyman came and had a look, fiddled around with something then said okay give it time.
We were out from 4pm until 11:30pm and the room was still not cool enough unless you stood near the door to the balcony where the A/C flow is directed. Rang to complain again and nothing was done about it nor did anyone follow up.
This was not acceptable especially given we are in a hot country in 35 plus degree heat.
This hotel should not be advertising themselves as a 5 star hotel if they cannot live up to those standards.
The hotel says this is newly renovated however this is false advertising.
Room we are currently staying was very runned down, bathroom is old and marks everywhere on the tiles with cracks on the walls.
In addition the pool bar says they are opened at 10am, drinks menu says they are opened at 10am however the barman insists they open 11am. When we checked out no one bothered to ask how our stay was hence reason to place review on here.
Although good location definitely would not recommend this place to stay based on false advertising.

Currently staying here and have found the staff to be friendly. The room we have is clean and comfortable and serviced daily. The issues we have found while staying here are that there were never any pool towels available, you could be waiting up until 11am for towels and the pool opens at 730am and all they can say is that there at the laundry. The buffet breakfast is low quality, concentrate juices, old fruit, pastries low quality, little condiments, I would not bother. Not much variety if you're staying for a week, it gets old very quick nothing changes. The pool area is not fully operating, there is a beautiful spa area that is empty and looks like it has not been in use for a long time. The main pool also has many individual spas but are also not working. This resort looks 5 star but unfortunately misses the mark.

We feel very honored that you are comparing us to a 5 star Hotel, and we are sorry that we didn’t meet your expectations so far. As you may see on the online websites we are rated as a four star property, with very affordable four star prices compared to other properties in close vicinity. Thank you for highlighting our clean facilities and comfortable room. Also that our staff is very friendly and we will certainly forward your comments to the team. Regarding the towels, we did have some issue with our outsourced towel supplier, but it has been solved now. Concerning the breakfast buffet, we do offer a daily rotation of food items in every buffet section (e.g. bakery, hot dishes, pasta, Indian corner, etc…) However if you may not be satisfied, please do not hesitate to contact our team or myself directly to request any special dishes. Please do not hesitate to contact me also through gm(at) camakilabenoa (dot) com Regarding the Spa, it is open daily from 10am until 9pm. We are very happy to help you to arrange a treatment. Hotel very nice BUT you need to spend around £30 a day on taxis if you want to go out to find shops restaurants and civilisation. Hotel ok if you want to relax and go nowhere .. shuttle bus to Bali collection good but I can go to gunwharf at home which is better better spending extra on a hotel nearer town.
Beach ok but cannot swim due to boats but you can get a shuttle to another beach we didn’t bother
Girl on concierge desk didn’t have a clue we asked to go to flea market but she told taxi driver we wanted the supermarket!! Asked about night markets and was told there is none .. there is we found them ourselves
No bar or coffee shop .. over road is another pool which looks like a pond and the dogs from beach come and drink out of it yuk no one stops them oh and they poo on the grass too!!
Main pool nice though and fairly quiet with comfortable sun beds
Food in restaurants ok but teenagers are not catered for choice of burger sandwich or pizza
Breakfast good
Rooms quite good too
Now the really bad part .. I arrived with a 14 year old in tow .. shattered after 27 hours travelling (we stopped in Singapore) only to be told the room had been cancelled as it had not been paid .. upshot they wanted money or we could not stay .. it was 11pm .. never been to bali before so did not have a clue .. I gave them copies of my booking and asked them to call the agent t they refused as it was too expensive to call UK but were quite happy to provide me with internet so I could call!! Eventually I had to give them a credit card so we could stay .. it was sorted out in morning and my agent told me the hotel had missed the Payment coming in!!
Upshot we changed hotels and are quite happy with the new hotel
I can not recommend the camakila as they were quite willing to throw a woman and 14 year old boy out at midnight
I want no excuses from the management as you need to hang your heads in shame
I would not go back there and would not recommend it to anyone

I got a room with swimming pool venue and it was beautiful but i wasn't satisfy with the cleanliness. When we first arrived in the room, the floor was sticky even though i already complaint to the staff and got better in the next day because we have stayed for 2 nights. What i like the most in this resort it is because the pool bar and the beach accross the resort. The pool bar is comfy and the restaurant accross the resort is located at the beach and there is also a pool. Eventhough in benoa the beach not very comfy to swim, because the benoa beach is for watersport. So the scenery is beach with a lot of ships. But i dont mind it. Because we can enjoy the beautiful scenery inside and outside hotel. We can swim comfortably in the swimming pool and my son could play beach sand without having to fight over the place with other visitors, because the beach seems like private beach even though it is public beach.
We really enjoyed our stay at reasonable price. Thank you!

We were there between Christmas and New Year 2019 and there was no evening entertainment at the time we were there. It’s a reasonably quiet area of Bali situated on a peninsula. There is happy hour at the pool bar between 5-7 and the bar closed at 8pm. Only a few couples were in the pool for happy hour during a peak period. There is only 1 person in the pool between 7-8. Apart from that, not much else happens at the resort at night.

The nearest ATM is located on the left when leaving the lobby, on the opposite side of the street. There is a small square with a row of three different ATM's. HOWEVER! I have used these ATM's and lost my creditcard in one of them. Therefore, I would suggest that you leave the hotel lobby to the right, and follow the main street of Benoa southward. You will, after the well known restaurant Bumbu Bali and a few bends in the street, come to a supermarket on your left, with ample parking space in front. Inside you will find two more ATM's, and these have proven to be more trustworthy. Also, being inside is more secure when you use and ATM. Good luck! Jan

Hello Freedom, yes every room has a fridge. It is a minibar size, but we were able to store several 1,5 liter bottles in it. Very convenient. We have had a small dozen of rooms in this hotel, the fridges were always cold enough. Have a nice time !
