Our family of seven stayed here for four nights while visiting Cambridge, London (drive 10-12 minutes to Braintree, catch train to London) and surrounding country villages, Great Dunmow, Finchingfield with its ducks, Safron Waldon. Anne Butler is the finest hostess/proprietor we've ever met. She serves a full English breakfast (she will ask you to choose time between 7- 8:45) but...

We stayed 2 nights for a local wedding. Mrs Butler is very welcoming and the perfect host. Double room is comfortable with a private bathroom across the landing with a bath but no shower. Of course, it is not a modern building, but an ancient house, so some of todays modernities as floorheating etc were spared us, instead there is a thick beam crossing right through the room, a creeking floor, antique furniture.
