I have just returned from a wonderful short break in this fantastic hotel, my last visit having been 30 years ago when it was in its heyday. Guess what ? its better than ever. Understated elegance, seamless unobtrusive service and fabulous food- what more could you ask? we were allocated Silver room it had breathless views and a four poster...

We stayed for one night on our way to Aberdeenshire. In a beautiful setting overlooking Ullswater, the hotel is a delight with welcoming staff and a wonderful restaurant. We stayed in The Cottage which was exceptional, very comfortable and quiet. Dinner was fantastic, breakfast was perfect and our stay which was all too short was memorable. Oh, and our Labrador...

This was our first visit staying for the first few days of the new year which we enjoyed very much. We were allocated Aphrodite in main hotel which suited us very well. I somewhat agree with a previous reviewer regarding the temperature which was rather stifling at first but after we turned off the radiator near the bed all was...

Beautiful room, which we understand was recently refurbished. The views of Ullswater are absolutely stunning: the hotel is so close to the lake and is utterly tranquil. Fantastic tasting menu on Saturday night, followed by quality breakfast the next day. Customer service was suitably attentive. Could not recommend more highly. We will be returning, hopefully before too long!

In the week before Christmas we were fortunate enough to find the time to enjoy an overnight stay at Sharrow Bay. It was fabulous - from the minute we arrived we were spoilt - we received a free upgrade to the most amazing room ( Marion ) which was huge, beautifully decorated and perfectly warm. The bathroom was a good...

Sharrow Bay was the first ever ‘Country House Hotel’ that became a symbol for old-fashioned luxury where guests came from across the world to lie in its lap. The 17-room hotel is now owned by Andrew Davis, formerly head of Von Essen Hotels. He has £2.5m to return the hotel to its grandiose days and he has brought in manager...

Just love Sharrow. It really is a one off - unique! Great service and beautiful food. We also loved our room, the delightful Pinkie. A special place to celebrate a special occasion or just as a treat .

30 of us visited the hotel for a 3 course festive lunch for business purposes. Truly amazing setting by the lake. All the reception rooms were classic in style with a modern edge. Food was divine! Would not hesitate to recommend. I want to go back now and stay over.

Our most recent visit to Sharrow was a delight - the whole place has a renewed spark of excellence! The refurbishments and improvements have brought the place back to life. We have been visiting maybe three or four times a year for over thirty years, and have seen many ups and downs in both the quality of the restaurant and...

Amazing setting and beautiful, over the top, chintzy decor, but a little 'tired'. Outrageously expensive - we were charged £30 for the honour of sharing our room with our dog (we brought our own dog bed). The room temperature was awful. Felt like a sauna when we arrived, so off with all the radiators and open the windows. Then frozen...
