Summary:
Janalli Gardens as a 'couples getaway' is superb. It offers separate accommodation as well as a common living area should you feel like mixing with the other guests. It's located down the valley from Neerim itself, but this isolation is part of the charm, along with its superb gardens. Should you have the opportunity to stay, I would thoroughly recommend it. One noticeable downside to Janalli is the lack of mobile phone reception (even Telstra), but some would say this is a good thing. Having said that, our gracious hosts Phillipa & Alan (upon request) allowed us to use their WiFi which was very kind of them.
The Property:
The property itself is magnificent with long sweeping verandahs with plenty of places to just sit & be.
The Location:
Location wise, as I mentioned it's a little of the way of the main township, but this only enhances its appeal in terms of solitude. As mentioned don't rely on mobile reception 100% of the time. This may well be worth considering if you need to be on call or available.
The Accommodation:
Our room was well appointed and reasonable in size (but not huge) with it's own ensuite bathroom. There was also a spa down the end of the house which presumably was for the use of all guests?
The Restaurants:
The property itself doesn't offer an evening meal to the best of my knowledge, which left only the township which I'm sorry to say is slim pickings. The only restaurant on offer at the time of our stay was the King Arms Hotel (which to be polite) was adequate enough to keep the wolves from the door.

Response from phillipabeeson, Owner at Janalli Gardens and Accommodation
Responded 10 Apr 2013
Thank you so much for this very positive and comprehensive review and for the time it took to complete it. I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay with us. The photos are great. I find it very interesting to see the different angles from which people shoot familiar corners of the garden. You are obviously a very creative photographer. We do serve dinner for our guests by prior arrangement. There are some good restaurants around within a 20 minute drive ranging from Thai to Italian to tapas to ones specialising in local produce. Next time you come we can if you like direct you to some of them. Anyone interested in setting up a good restaurant in Neerim South would be assured of the warm welcome by the locals and visitors alike!

We would like to thank them so much, it is Beautiful and the accomodation lovely, especially the attention to detail, tastefully done, fresh flowers in the room so clean and decorated impeccebly.
Hosts bend over backward to make you comfortable. Meals served were freshly homemade using their own produce, rooms very clean and very cosy. and presentation A1.
The Grdens are absolutley beautiful, there is also plenty of peaceful little spots with chairs dotted around everywhere, undercover or in the open.
We will be recommending Janalli to all our friends and family and cannot wait to go back and enjoy the serenity.
Cheers!

10 acres of perfectly-manicured gardens make for a serene setting at this lovely getaway property. You're greeted by the sounds of exotic birds, and treated to nature at its purest. A yummy breakfast is largely sourced from right there on the property and prepared to order. Rooms are clean, pleasant and private.

We booked a one night stay at Janalli as my partner was working at a music event in town and we didnt want to drive back to Melbourne. We arrived late at night so didnt get to see the gardens - we missed out! Allan has spent so much time dedicated to this garden and it is definately worth it. We took a tour of the gardens and from the Japanese Gardens to the Wine Branches and even Vegie Patch, this place allows you to escape. (I reccomemnd reading the booklet that is provided about the gardens first)
Our favourite part - the breakfast! We were a bit skeptical about sitting around a table with the other couples staying at Janalli but the fruit cocktail was the best start to a delicious meal . We were raving about this breakfast for weeks and this was the reason we came down for a second weekend! The eggs were fresh from the chickens in the gardens, the fruit is all grown on the property and it was amazing.
We came down a second time as it is the perfect escape for a romantic weekend! Our only small issue was the water in the shower at night had low water pressure but I think this was due to different appliances in the main house - the next morning when we woke up we had the high water pressure shower back.
Janalli is located down a one-lane road and on the first time I though I missed the property as it felt like I had driven too far out of town. There was a storm the night before we left and on our way back we discovered a tree across the road. A quick call to Allan and he was down there with the chainsaw cutting it down - that is what you call service.
We would definately reccomend Janalli and it is not to be missed. Neerim has some beautiful places (particularly as we just bought a new jeep and were keen to go 4-wheel driving) and well worth the 1.5 hour drive.

To all those weary travellers out there Janalli Gardens is the best Tranquil place that we have enjoyed staying at. From the most generous hospitality of our hosts Allan and Phillipa and the warm gentle Ambience of the Oriental room then add the glorious scenery ,so do yourself a favour by refreshing your body, mind and soul to unwind and have a relaxing time. A Heart felt Appreciation to Janalli, your wine was a good drop too! cheers

We had a wonderful stay at Janalli Gardens, very peaceful and tranquil. The gardens are amazing I would totally recommend this place for a wedding, just perfect. The owners were very hospitable and couldn't do enough for you, they were also very discreet and left you to enjoy the experience in peace. Great place to unwind.

Responded 20 Sept 2011
Thank you for your review of Janalli. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again. The gardens are coming into their peak time so your visit was timely. The wedding we had in the gardens on the day you arrived was just lovely with a beautiful and relaxed bride and heaps of happy guests. We love sharing our gardens with our guests.

We spent a night here in March and wished we had time to stay longer. From the first greeting (dogs included) to the last goodbye we throughly enjoyed our stay. Our room at the end of the verandah was fabulous, comfortable, warm and stylish. The ensuite is lovely with a great shower. The gardens are gorgeous, lots of birds and wildlife and so quiet. Breakfast unfortunately could not be provided (we knew this in advance) so we had tea on the verandah before leaving. Cannot say enough good things about our stay here, we will be back again to stay longer next time. Neerim and Janalli Gardens are about a 90 minute drive from Melbourne, a great spot for a mini break.

We booked for only one night but it should have been more.
wow! What a peaceful setting this was, one day was not enough to absorb the magic of these extensive, amazing Gardens, every pocket had a different feel.
Many of the plants were producing food that made the meals fresh an flavoursome. The hosts made us feel very relaxed and welcome by going the extra mile catering for us.
We had dinner just up the road at the Kings Arms Hotel, (Lamb Shanks & Veg Risotto), they were very generous servings and extremely tasty.
We would definitely recommend spending time at this wonderland retreat and want to come back in the Autumn.

I arrived frazzled and left calm and content. Your ears quickly become attuned to the birdsongs and morning chorus. Your eyes are rewarded by the gardens and breakie. Your nose is taken with the roses and the morning's repast. The rooms are sumptuous and tasteful. The grounds are a credit to Phillipa and Allan whose vision and hard work are evident everywhere.
Thanks for the chats and the chance to share in your wonderful property.
