The Black Pearl at Puaikura is an excellent place to stay. We had our Christmas Holidays there and we enjoyed the stay very much even though the shops were closed. The islanders like holidays very much. Our room was big and airy. We spent a lot of time in the beautiful garden with the pool and sunbeds. The beach is...

Kia Orana Margit & Leif Thank you for your lovely review of your time at The Black Pearl - it was a pleasure to meet you both and see you unwind in our little island Paradise. Guests really appreciate the free filtered water - it can save a huge amount of money if the alternative is to buy bottled water....

From the moment we arrived, the service and friendly staff were fantastic....nothing was a problem. The rooms were clean and met our basic needs. They were very airy (no air con) and the balcony was used a lot. The salt water pool is a good size and our two kids nearly spent all their time in it or the lagoon...

On the positive, this place has a lovely garden, friendly approachable staff and a good sandy beach for swimming. (Most beaches on the north side of the island are covered in broken coral so not good for swimming) I stayed in room 10 and thought it was ok despite the road noise until I turned on the fan above the...

Kia Orana Russell, Thank you for taking the time to review your brief experience of The Black Pearl. You arrived during some of the worst weather we have had for a while - and at night - not a great start! The room you booked was a Garden View Room and the most affordable of our three room categories. Whilst...

I loved my stay at the Black Pearl at Puaikura for three reasons. 1) Its location to the snorkeling sanctuary a couple of hundred metres up the road. 2) The self-catering accommodation allowed me to 'do my own thing' and 3) The staff were friendly and helpful, offering suggestions about where to eat, where to buy provisions, etc. The best...

Kia Orana Thank you for your positive review of your experiences at The Black Pearl - we are indeed fortunate to have the Marine Reserve so close - it offers some of the best snorkeling on the island. We had a somewhat perfect stay at The Black Pearl. It was quiet and the pool and lovely gardens were just like heaven on earth. The unit was lovely and great we could cook when we felt like it with the little kitchette. Jane and her team Rangi and Johnny were friendly and helpful with telling how to get around and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located on the sheltered sunset side of the island, the Black Pearl at Puaikura enjoys an enviable location with a pristine beach across the road, safe for swimming and snorkelling; a magical spot to watch the sunset. A mere 15 minutes to downtown Avarua, ten minutes to the airport and twenty minutes to the eclectic hustle and bustle of Muri. Intimately set in tropical gardens around a central salt water swimming pool The Black Pearl’s 12 rooms are spacious with high vaulted ceilings. A bold, vibrant, sometimes quirky colour palette complements the natural colours of the island. All on the ground level each room has a private patio, a view of either the lush garden or sparkling pool – or both. Kitchen facilities mean you can prepare breakfast, a light lunch or dinner in between dining at a great choice of restaurants close by, many of whom offer a free pick up and drop off service. Or choose to use our poolside BBQ. The Black Pearl at Puaikura is a haven for those not wanting a large hotel with multiple bars and restaurants but rather an intimate environment where the emphasis is on personal service, a place where you can lose yourself in a tropical paradise, at an affordable price. ... more   less
