Such a great place to de-connect and get away from it all with lovely accommodation (including a highly effective wood stove for heating in winter) and hosts. Loved waking up to birds and frogs! Really appreciated that this property was dog friendly as well.

We loved this place. Everything you could possibly want. Plus tranquility and freedom for the kids. Very welcoming hosts. Beautiful touches throughout the house. Really close to lots of great places to visit too. We will be back as soon as we can.

Cloudlake is an absolutely beautiful nature retreat, perfect for those wanting to disconnect from the hectic bustle of normal life. From the moment you arrive, you can feel the stress fading away. My partner and I stayed in the Romany Wood Gypsy Caravan, and it was genuinely the most lovely weekend away I have ever had. The limited phone service meant that work couldn't call us, which was a blessing, but we did find that while walking around the property, we were able to send and receive messages, and even call friends and family. Romany Wood has a full bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchenette, which makes it super easy to cook for yourself. The daybed is comfortable for two adults to recline on, and looks over a beautiful field with a huge fig tree and a beautiful cherry blossom. We loved watching the little birds bounce around, and listening to the creek. At night, we lit the fire and lazed about, reading books or playing games. Throughout the day we were able to explore the property, which had several highlights - it comes with a map! - and also drove the 10 minutes to Ravensbourne National Park, which offers four walks of varying difficulties and lengths. Crows Nest is only 20ish minutes away if you would like to grab something from a bakery or butcher, or even the IGA, and Rosemary has brilliant recommendations for where to grab a bite. The host, Rosemary, supported by Richard and Dijon, is so lovely and accommodating, and very knowledgeable about the area. This accommodation is not for people who need constant phone service, or who don't want to engage with nature. You also cannot be too fussed about the occasional creepy crawly. However, if you're happy surrounded by nature, waking to birdsong, and falling asleep to the sound of a burbling creek, this is paradise. We honestly cannot wait to come back!…

It is more than lovely to know just how much you have enjoyed staying in Romany Wood. We actually really love it too and sometimes love to go and spend a couple of nights down there ourselves. We are indeed very fortunate to be the current stewards of Cloudlake but really love the opportunity to share it and it is wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed staying. Love to see you both again. We stayed at Mother of Ducks at Cloudlake. The house was lovely, rustic and comfortable but with modern en suite. Our hosts welcoming and friendly and the accommodation spaced so we did not look into fellow guests in the neighbouring cottage. I could have spent a week on the patio watching the bird-life and meeting the demands for food of the king parrots. The Guinea fowl had us in hysterics doing circuits of the dam at dusk. There is a cosy fire place we did not get to use in the Queensland heat so will have to return in winter to enjoy that. Thank you Rosemary and Richard for a lovely getaway.

Our 3-night stay at the Boathouse was one of the loveliest getaways we’ve had. The property was beautiful and we spent our days wondering the gardens and walking tracks, enjoying picnics or lazing about in the hammock with a good book. The outdoor fire pit was wonderful for the evening and we kept warm inside with the fire place. The boathouse was clean and well equipped with all we needed for our stay and the kitchen was great for cooking. The bed was comfortable, but best of all was the view from the boathouse onto the lake and surrounding nature. We arrived a little early in the day but found our way to the boathouse easily and settled in. Rosemary, Richard and their dog Dijon were very friendly and accomodating and we appreciated the personal delivery of firewood each evening. The limited phone reception was no issue for us young folk either, in fact it allowed us to completely disconnect from the crazy world and just be. There was sufficient coverage toward the farmhouse which allowed us to check in with the outside world if needed! We can’t wait to return.…

Cloudlake is a beautiful property in a stunning part of the country that is beginning to show its age. It has a well equipped kitchen and looked like an incredible place to stay. However, we were booked for 3 nights and left after 2 as the property is teeming with spiders and other creepy crawlies and we were on edge the entire time because of it. Whilst I could make this review very long I will summarise the issues we encountered to help you decide if this is the place for you: - No one greeted us on arrival and there was no pre arrival email with instructions to set us up for this, so we were a bit lost on arrival and didn’t know how to contact our hosts but found the keys in the door and let ourselves in - The bed was dirty with some kind of animal excrement on it - The place was full of cobwebs and spiders - we lost count of how many we saw and some were the size of my hand. Literally every corner, crevice and rafter had spiders in it. - There were several hairy caterpillars (itchy grubs) in the boathouse after the rain - The house didn’t seal properly (big gaps around doors/windows) so it was impossible to prevent spiders etc entering - There is no mobile phone reception and no way in the room to contact the hosts. We didn’t know if the hosts lived close by so couldn’t get in touch until we went into town the next day to get phone reception - Whilst Rosemary was kind enough to relocate a couple of spiders for us on the first morning, when I advised her we were leaving early due to the spiders etc she suggested that “screened houses would be more reassuring for me to stay in” like I was supposed to assume that this place would be 1.unscreened 2. teeming with spiders and that 3. our hosts would think this was somehow acceptable!?!?!? - Google advises this is a B&B with breakfast included, but there wasn’t even milk provided for coffees, so the price you are paying definitely doesn’t include breakfast - the bed is very firm I have attached a few pictures to show the issues I have mentioned.…

We were very sorry that your stay in The Boathouse was such a disappointment and have been somewhat mystified about where the insects in the house when you were there came from. We always supply the houses with a lovely supply of firewood which we split and store in the woodbox outside. Sometimes guests help themselves to some stacks of firewood which are located nearby. Unfortunately, we often find hairy caterpillars and other wildlife in these woodstacks so I am thinking that this must be the source. Nevertheless, we really do want our guests to have a wonderful time here in our Land for Wildlife property in every way.

My husband and I stayed in the boathouse in it's romantic, relaxed setting by the lake. We loved sipping wine while stargazing from the verandah in the evening. An early morning walk through the beautifully landscaped gardens and the coolness of the rainforest was rich with the sounds of different birds and lush trees and foliage. The amazingly coloured king parrots that came to sit with us at breakfast were almost tame. The hospitality offered by Richard and Rosemary ensured this was a honeymoon to remember.

We spent 2 nights at Cloudlake and had such a relaxing time. If you are looking to switch off, take some deep breathes and simply enjoy the view then this will tick the boxes. Our cottage was clean and the bed comfortable. The kitchen was sufficient enough to prepare a decent meal and the deck was the spot for the wine and cheese. Richard and Rosemary have created some good walks on their land and their cottage garden was inspiring and such a pleasure to walk through. Highly recommend Cloudlake for that weekend retreat.

We stayed at the charming Mother of Ducks cottage. The little touches were perfect and the main bed was deliciously comfortable. It was the perfect place to while away the weekend and so nice to not have to get in the car to enjoy the beautiful landscaped grounds, pleasant countryside and towering rainforest all on the property. The lack of tv was a bonus as we cracked out the boardgames and read the paper. A very special place. We had 3 adults and two children in our party and it would have been a bit squishy with more.

It turns out to be Mitch Miller??!! who originally sang the song and it was also very popular with the scouts!!. Thanks so much for coming to Cloudlake for the May Long Weekend and hoping you enjoyed a digital detox just for a couple of days. Nature and especially the duck watching on the lake can indeed be very relaxing and we are delighted that you found it so as well. Hope to see you again up here at Cloudlake, Ravensbourne, one of the High Country Hamlets.

As soon as you open the door to the Mother of Ducks house at Cloudlake, it can be a shock to the senses. You step back in time to when life was simpler. No mobile phone coverage, or TV connection, quaint furniture, rustic kitchens, comfy beds with mosquito nets, crockery that is mismatched. But once you get past the sense of nostalgia, the place is very clean with all the amenities and comfort you could want in a home for the weekend. The house is so peaceful and overlooking a small lake full of ducks , with the bush surrounding you full of birds.Inside the house is a treasure trove of items from books to crockery and furniture , which would keep you busy checking them all out for weeks. The hosts Richard and Rosemary really care about the house and surrounds, and Richard was on hand to deliver our huge breakfast basket for 2 of the mornings we requested it..the basket had enough fresh food in it to feed 4 people for 3 days, so absolutely value for money. If you want a break from the mundane and stress of life, this is a place you should check out. If you like 5 star accommodation, suggest you stay at the Hilton, but if you like comfort, clean rustic charm, enough mod cons (BBQ,Fridge,Hot water, microwave, CDs AND VCRs etc) then this is the place for you. Sit by the fireplace, or sit on the verandah and watch the world go by with a glass of wine and loved ones... I took my elderly parents with my wife and I. My parents loved the queen old fashioned bed and my wife and I had the 2 singles in the second bedroom. Would be good for families as well, as plenty for the kids to see and do..albeit away from the TV for a while. I would definitely recommend for quiet times away, or even for a family/friends who want to enjoy each others company rather than bright lights and noisy city venues.…
