This is pub eating at its best. Friendly atmosphere, and interesting food, as well as a good choice of beers, including Black Sheep. Obviously well patronised by locals, but some visitors like us as well. Be careful driving into the village, as there are hens all over the road (i.e. really free ranging). Understand that they have accommodation, but we...

Found this great pub yesterday lunchtime (25/6/16) whilst travelling over the Yorkshire moors. Excellent choice for lunchtime (steak pie, haddock chips, minute steak and kids pizza) . Food arrived quickly and tasted delicious. Will call again if we visit Yorkshire.

Travelling up on Saturday (18.06.16) & booked for lunch, its a lovely looking building that dates back to way back when. Inside is clean & very cosy. The Staff where most polite & helpful. The Food was excellent & plentiful. I would thoroughly recommend it for Lunch & looking around it, with just 10 rooms also for a place to...

We spent a lovely short break here. The staff are friendly and helpful. We ate dinner in both the restaurant and the bar area; the food is the same either way and is delicious with generous portions; breakfast is equally good. The inn is set in a quiet village, no shops, but an hourly bus goes through to/from Helmsley and...

We spent two nights here, at this characterful country inn in the pretty village of Sinnington, which was a good base for walking and exploring the countryside. Our room was compact, due to the nature of the old building; but charming and full of character, with the ceiling sloping down to the low window. Although small, it was well-equipped (with...

A little extra care with it,s food would elevate this gastropub into the next league. Service and ambience are good. It is a relaxing place to eat with real ales on tap. We chose the chef,s dishes of the day which included potted chicken, smoked haddock rarebit and toffee ices. The chicken was too dense, dry and needed more seasoning....

I find your remarks extremely rude. Firstly the value: £120 for 4 people including starter, main, pudding, coffee and drinks, i.e. £30 per head - that seems to me very good value. Next: why on earth choose a rarebit if you don't want cheese? That is the whole point of a rarebit! If you don't want cheese ask for just...

We had an evening meal here. From the start, service was friendly and efficient. The food we were served was excellent. My steak was mouth-wateringly tasty, My wife really enjoyed her fish. Pubs do not have to die, if they are of this standard.

Just back from a wonderful weekend away, with The Fox & Hounds as our base for visits to Cropton, Whitby - travelling on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from Pickering - and Dalby Forest. It is a very friendly, welcoming establishment, and serves excellent food using locally sourced produce. Great location, great time!

This is a review of the restaurant at the Fox and Hounds (can't find a separate listing for it). This had a slightly more formal feel to it than other pubs we ate at during our week in the North Yorks Moors, but the overall experience was still friendly. They have a gluten free menu which was helpful to me...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This attractive 18th-Century former coaching inn in one of the prettiest villages in North Yorkshire offers a warm welcome the minute you arrive. A little loop road just off the A170 Helmsley to Pickering road on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, Sinnington has everything a classic English village should; a maypole, a village green, a 12th century church and ducks feeding on the beck that gently winds its way through the village. There are pretty riverside and woodland walks nearby. Its cosy bar, open fire and hanging hops deliver a rustic and relaxing atmosphere. There's also a contemporary restaurant that boasts oak tables and attractive lighting - ideal for those looking for that slightly more intimate affair. But wherever you choose to sit, you can be assured of a delicious meal. This is a destination for people who enjoy good food cooked well. The three chefs source many of their ingredients locally, making the most of the area's fine meats and fish and home grown vegetables and herbs. The meat is supplied by BW & DJ Glaves of Brompton by Sawdon, Scarborough and all the fish is delivered daily from the east coast. The inn has an AA rosette awarded for culinary excellence which has been maintained for the past 15 years. Typical dishes such as a twice baked Lincolnshire poacher cheese souffle and a platter of fish cakes, little fish and chips, king scallop, salmon and aspargus salad are popular throughout the year. Other options include a Roast breast and leg of Guinea Fowl, sage crushed potato, asparagus and oyster mushroom cream or confit Duck Leg, chorizo, roast pepper and pea risotto, orange and watercress salad. Chefs specials are also offered for both lunch and dinner. Lighter lunches and an early evening supper menu are also offered daily such as a chargrilled minute steak, fries, pepper sauce and salad or onion rings or roast belly pork and black pudding, chive mash, apple sauce and crackling .All puddings are homemade and if you're struggling to decide what to choose, there is an assiette of puddings that has a little bit of everything - puddings change on a daily basis.Fresh bread is baked every morning and the chefs like to try different ingredients for evening dinners complimentary bread and olive. Flavours have included parmesan and chive or chorizo and sun dried tomato. Sundays bring traditional roasts with a range of different options - including beef, pork and lamb served with a Yorkshire Pudding and also a fish and a vegetarian dish. Accommodation is available all year round, and has been awarded 4 Stars from the English Tourism Council. ... more   less
