Having had a wonderful first time experience at The Thorn, I was eager to return.
Despite having made a lunch booking we were waved vaguely towards an unset table with bench seating.
Our waitress wasn't welcoming or particularly friendly. I had the impression that she considered

We have eaten twice in the last week. Dinner then lunch. On each occasion we found the food to be excellent, well presented, extremely fresh with a well thought out menu.

The atmosphere is welcoming and convivial with good attentive service from a young team.

Our fourth time at their Thanksgiving Evening & following a separate & equally disappointing meal. We won’t be returning & have canceled a further group booking.

The Bad.

Response from James A, Manager at The Mistley Thorn
Responded 3 weeks ago
As Daniel Patrick Moynihan famously said 'You are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.' and this 'essay' is riddled with factual errors. All our desserts are made in house, none are frozen (except ice creams!), none of our kitchen staff smoke and if they did we have 2 back doors to the kitchen. the reviewer must have been referring to other guests seated in the back room going out of the front door to smoke - something we have no control over. The olives are not fizzy and rotten they are olives preserved in olive oil and we sell more than a dozen jars a week; the mussels are not deep fried; we were actually busier for this meal than we were last year; the bread 'that wasn't served' is baked on the premises and not rock hard and we do not serve balsamic with our bread.... I could go on.... and the last sentence is complete nonsense - we only do three special menus a year!. I advise TA readers to look at this reviewer's numerous other posts. Once they have done so they will have a clear sense of what sort of person this is.
