Detailed Reviews
We wanted to visit the camel market in Sinaw and because there were no hotels in this area we booked the Rest House in Al Quabil for 1 night. It didn't look too bad from the outside and the patio with the little pond gave the place some charm, but when we entered our room and looked around, we were not exactly pleased. The dark carpet, the old sofa with the shabby brown cover, the black desk, the bed with the totally worn sheets and the nooks in between the furniture that clearly never saw a vacuum cleaner: oops! Dinner outside on the patio was o.k. But when we went to bed the airconditoner stopped. After alarming the staff, they tried to reset it, but it soon stopped again. An hour later en totally fed up with the situation, we asked for an other room. This was a room with less furniture, much cleaner and with better bedlinen. The airconditioning was noisy, but it worked. Breakfast is from 7.30 onwards which was too late for us, but they kindly offered to be around at 7. Creditcards are not accepted and there is no staff at the desk to check out till 7.30.

licenced restaurant open for lunch and dinner
near to (very) early morning training grounds for camel training
if travelling in your own car then this is convenient and easy base for
visiting Ibra area and Wahiba sands
On the inland bus route Muscat-Sur
popular with locals popping in throughout the evening

After some difficulty in finding the place due to lack of helpful directions and dusk - we now know it to be directly opposite the Shell garage in Al Qabil on the 23 road - this was as others have described it. Basic en-suite accommodation at a reasonable price. Breakfast is unvaried (we were there 3 nights) and the dinner menu limited (mutton biriani was least favourite). The aircon was effective but noisy, and the electric sockets and wiring caused some concern, travelling as we were with an 18 month toddler (eg bare wires protruding from what used to be sockets). Had there been an alternative we probably wouldn't have chosen the Rest House, but there was little else available at the time of booking in this area. It was very convenient for trips into the desert dunes and to mountains and wadis.

The new management Al Wesal Hotel is very good, kind, caring. Feels like home a very good place to visit. You must visit this hotel on your way to Wahiba sands or when you play your desert trips. They also have restaurant which offers good food.

its a good place to stay overnight and for lunch the next day. Its always my spot for visiting before going to the al Areesh camp. It has good food. It also has an interesting view when you enter the hotel, it has a pond and a small waterfall. I advise you to visit.

this hotel is located at the roadside at the end of a nondescript village, (Muddharib) close to the Wahiba Sands, where there are several much better desert camps if you are early enough to find them, if not, Al Qabil Rest house is a decent and only alternative, it serves a good meal, offers wine, has a nice patio, rooms are oldfashioned but ok,

Rooms are rather basic, but clean with a good working aircon. Meal was so/so. We stayed in this resthouse to make an afternoon tour in the desert (Wahiba Sands) and to visit the very interesting women souq in Ibra the next (Wednesday)morning. The service of the rude receptionists was very poor. We almost missed the desert tour which was reserved via reception because of their disinterest. After a lot of trouble they finally arranged the requested tour for which we were late and we missed part of the tour. I only recommend this resthouse because of the desert tour and the women souq. There is no other hotel in the neighbourhood.
