Detailed Reviews
I would like to acknowledge and advise people not to look too far back in the reviews as this park changed hands around 12 months ago, and things have improved significantly, however I don't believe that it should be referred to as a resort at this point. There is still work to be done, however the owners, are making a valiant effort to bring the park up to a very good standard.
We stayed here with a party of 19 all up and we chose here because everywhere else was booked out, but overall it was a good choice. The park is close enough to good walking trails and sits in the middle of Horsham and Halls Gap/Stawell.
The had a very well stocked and very clean little "shop" where you could buy pretty much everything, albeit a little bit pricey on some items, it would cost you more to go into town to purchase items. The benefit was that it had a licensed bottle shop too which was a bonus if you ran out of alcohol.
For the long weekend, the owners provided some entertainment and also a coffee van visit which was appreciated by those staying in the park.
The park is spacious but lacks green space at this time of year. The caravan spots are a tad uneven. It is beautiful and peaceful in the park if you don't want a powered site and you are spoilt for choice where you can locate yourself. The camp kitchen is large but a distance from the main areas. We noted that many drove their goods up to prepare. It was lacking cooking tools, so be prepared to bring your own. The was a good gas oven, once you worked out how to light it and a good double glass door fridge which we found useful. Sadly though, we had to clean this before we could use it.
The cabins were suitable and very clean inside but needed some work on the outside (dirty windows and cobwebs), but I am providing this feedback to the owners in the hope that they will address these things to make it better for the next people who stay.
Even though a little more expensive, it was good to be able to buy fuel on the premise if needed and also good to be able to buy bags of ice. The pool was a bonus for the kids who used it. Once the toilet blocks have been upgraded, it will make this park very desirable for those campers who require those amenities. The pool table was a bit of a hit, but only two cue's, one without a tip so this needs addressing and the remote for the TV needs to be findable, even if it is to stop kids playing with it. It needs to be in view, but perhaps located higher up that only an adult can reach.
Overall, the location met our needs for the weekend and the things we were let down by were not insurmountable and we will give the benefit of the doubt to allow the owners to address my feedback going forward. This includes the need for a sleeker check in process.
Even for an overnight stay, this is a great spot. Just note that caravans are not recommended on the continuation of the road that leads into Halls Gap, you need to go via Roses Gap or back toward the highway.

I had the good fortune to come across this caravan / camp site while sightseeing near Halls Gap. My first stay here was in a campervan which I parked at a powered site for one night. My second stay, (later the same month) was for three nights in an "Executive Cabin". The Happy Wanderer Holiday Resort & Caravan Park is located on the other side of the mountains from Halls Gap in Wartook. It is a very peaceful location and the drive to and from Halls Gap is via winding mountain road and is very scenic. Alternatively, you may want to consider access the location via the North Grampians Rd. from the Western Highway if towing a caravan. The current owners were friendly and keen to provide a high level of service. Note: I the was told that the business is under new management, the new owners having purchased the property earlier this year. Fuel, (petrol & diesel) was available on site during my stay and the small shop in the reception building was surprisingly well stocked with basic food and drink items. I noticed that there was a small, attractive pool, a tennis court and also a camp kitchen on site. The "executive" cabin which I stayed in was in good condition, spacious, well equipped and very clean. I was satisfied and able to fully relax in comfort in front of a wood burning stove. Special Note: The new owners appear to be in the process of modernising and upgrading the campsite facilities, (i.e. showers & toilets) which I though appeared to be somewhat old and in need modernisation. However, all these facilities seemed to be in working condition and kept clean during my stay. No complaints and I look forward to returning to this location to stay in the same cabin when I next visit the area.

We stayed just one night in a 2 bed cabin and enjoyed our time there. It’s set up for families with playground, swimming pool and tennis courts set with the beautiful Grampians as the backdrop.
The cabin was comfortable and had all you needed. I slept on the top bunk which was ok though would have preferred a slightly comfy mattress.
The water from tap is not drinkable so come prepared with bottled water otherwise there is a small shop on site which has all you need.
Was treated to having Roos coming to visit us at our doorstep.
Will return again.

+1
We arrived here the day before Australia Day. We booked an on site van, not knowing what they were like. Turned up on a 37 degree day and the Van was roasting. The aircon was turned on and the room was basic. You get what you pay for, so we asked to upgrade to a cabin. It’s like a different world. The cabins are top notch. Aircon is first class, it cooled the room down very quickly. All the facilities that you would need were there, and plenty of plates, cups, utensil etc so you could use up enough to fill the dish washer before running out.
We were in Goanna, at the end of the row of cabins. Great location as you get kangaroos feeding all round the cabin and you can wonder down the property towards some magnificent views of the Grampians.
Jill and Phil, the new owners, had just taken over the day we arrived and are the friendliest people you could meet. They have great plans to do up the gardens so we want to return again to see what they can do with the place, although being a caravan park and having on site accomodation, I didn’t think it was too bad, it was just that being so hot the gardens had just dried up.
Lastly to mention, as we are bird watchers, this place is only a couple of minutes away from Wartook State Forest. Lots of bird species to see here.
This place is in a great location. Stay here and relax.

I came in from the North from Horsham and saw the Happy Wanderer Resort and decided to stay there for my three days visiting the Grampians. The owners Phill and Jill were very welcoming and extremely generous. This was just after the Anzac Day long weekend so they were still cleaning up after the influx, but I got the Emu room in the three unit log cabin. It had a double bed, ensuite and a small kitchen with all the utensils and apparatus needed to be selfsufficient. Their reception area was stocked with a variety of basic food needs so you didn't really need to drive into Halls Gap to stock up. This was a perfect base for visiting all the exciting waterfalls, lookouts, mountain peaks and walks in the Grampians. I ended up staying an extra night. The whole resort is a vast, typically Australian bush setting with lots of kangaroos and wallabies. I don't know what the previous owners were like but I can definitely recommend this place and its new owners. I hope to be back one day again and will certainly recommend it to anyone who is going to the Grampians.

My now husband and I have spent the past few months getting to know the owners of the Happy Wanderer. We had our wedding ceremony here in February 2021 and ourselves along with our family and friends stayed here. During our planning, we made many trips to the Happy Wanderer and were always met with kindness and friendly faces. The owners went above and beyond to ensure we were all happy and comfortable. They allowed us use of the camp kitchen, they showed us through cabins, they allowed us to wander around their grounds on many occasions prior to our stay, to choose the perfect ceremony spot. We can not fault the owners or this beautiful place at all. The views are incredible, waking up and watching the kangaroos and other wildlife from the veranda of our cabin was incredible, to be really honest, we didn't want to leave and would have happily stayed longer. The photo attached, is just one of the many amazing views, I just wish I had captured photos of the beautiful cabin as well. Over all it was an all round incredible experience :)

We stayed as a group of friends with families on Grand Final Weekend. First impressions were good, the reception is clean, the shop well stocked with all the essentials, you shouldn't need to leave the park for supplies. The camping area was quiet and peaceful and Phil and Gill put up a large screen in the rec room for the big game. One of the few caravan parks where you can still have a fire pit so the boys were very happy. Also biggest camp kitchen I've seen. As others have said it's a bit aged but facilities are clean and by the sounds of it Phil and Gill have plans to improve the park but overall it's a great county caravan park. If you want bitumen go elsewhere!

Terrible terrible service! Owner is very aggressive and does not know how to run a hospitality business, his wife is lovely though. We read all the bad reviews and still booked thinking it wouldn’t be that bad but he was rude and argumentative within 10 minutes of checking in. Owner was not happy with how many cars we had so drove passed our site every day shaking his head at us to make a point. Despite the appalling behaviour from him, the caravan park has not had any money spent on it in years or maintenance done. Every site was uneven and rough and very poor and run down facilities, the water from the taps and showers is also also brown.

Was there for a wedding and stayed the night. The cabins were amazing and the grounds were beautiful with wild kangaroos in the grounds. The owners were very lovely and happy to help with everything and anything that was needed. Would recommend this place for everyone to go to visit for a quiet get away.

My husband and I have retired and decided to go on a road trip to Victoria.
Getting a little weary we looked for somewhere to stay and chose the ‘Happy Wanderer’ in Wartook overnight.
Long story short, we stayed three nights in a login cabin with a pot belly wood fire - what a wonderful experience!
This park is Under New Management and Jillian & Phil are wonderful hosts. We will be back again in the summer months with the Grandchildren to have fun in the pool and visit Mac Kenzie falls.
