I have been going to Big Meadows since 1987 and this place NEVER disappoints! I have stayed at the campground, lodge, and cabins. There are two places to eat (lodge and Wayside), as well as fuel, small grocery store, and a gift shop. There is an overlook at the far end of lodge that is only a 150 yard hike. I actually have slept there a few times. PHENOMENAL VIEWS! After hiking during the day, the "Taproom" has alcohol, live music at times, and is just a great time. Don't miss "Dark Hollow" falls, a look over the Meadow, the rock climb, nature hike, and a plethora of other activities close by! Don't listen to the negative reviews as this place DOES NOT disappoint! Stay safe and you will see seer close by, turkey, and my last visit, a mother bear was Pawling her young cubs who had hopped over the stone barrier.

Such a great camp ground. Bathrooms were cleans, coin-pay showers were clean and so warm! We enjoyed the lodge up the street for a pleasant escape. There is also a camp store and visiting center. Pretty bougie compared to other NP campgrounds. Lol. The walk in sites were large and set back far enough to have privacy. We hiked Ole Rag and while it was quite a drive from the campground it was a wonderful hike- def get there early to get a parking spot.

We stayed at one of the walk-in tent sites in Loop A. The sites were spaced out well, especially at the walk-in sites so we had some privacy but could chat with neighbors as they walked by, too. There was a nice picnic table, fire ring with a cooking grate, and adequate space to pitch a tent. The bathrooms were clean, and there was a utility sink. Even staying on a Sunday night, most spots were filled up by night.

Stayed here on election night, thought would be great to get away from the politics. There was no way to get any information unless you sat in your car listening to the radio, IT WAS PERFECT! We were on our first rv trip, this was our first time "boon docking" We loved it.

Rangers and staff were very friendly throughout, including at check in. The sites were so close together we could hear our next door neighbor snoring through the night! We also had to leave early and felt that because we were so close to other campers that even zipping up sleeping bags and taking down tents were so loud they would disturb others, even if we were otherwise silent. Big Meadows is in a great location in the park, centrally located near many of the hikes we wanted to do. Camp store was decently priced for the essentials and wayside with gas was helpful. They ran out of firewood while we were there, which was a big bummer! They communicated about via email, which would have been great except there was no cell service. I don’t fault them for that, but it may be worth checking on before you enter the park so you can know whether to stop at a different campground to purchase some. Overall was a fun time and SNP is amazing!
