Hiking and staying at Sperry is all about having a little adventure. It is a little like roughing it at summer camp. Where else do you get to go into the wilderness with just your clothes and toothbrush? No need for tent, sleeping bag, or dehydrated food. They have a beautiful chalet, comfortable beds with cozy blankets, and great food. The...

Last autumn, we hiked the 7-mile 3500-foot climb up to Sperry Chalet from the Lake McDonald Lodge and stayed two nights in an (expensive!) double room. While the weather was quite cool and the unheated cabin was rather frigid at night, we had a lovely stay. The staff is super friendly, the food they prepare is hearty and filling, and...

We hiked up from McDonald Lake for the last two days of the Chalet's season. Beautiful weather, the rain having tamped the fires down quite a bit by then, was chilly enough to make the steep hike pleasant, and we were greeted at the dining hall door by a friendly face, lemonade and the check in book. Our room was...

Brilliant clear skies, superb views and a wolverine sighting made our stay here the highlight of two weeks in the Rockies. This is no luxury chalet, but it is a chance to experience the wilderness as those who made the journey over 100 years ago did. My rating is for the experience, not the comfort. However the bed was comfortable...

Sperry Lodge was going to be the highlight of my 2 week Glacier trip. After spending 3 smokey nights at Fish Creek Campground with uncontained forest fires in every direction we were forced to leave due to health issues from smoke.I immediately canceled my Sperry reservations which was 6 days notice. I asked about receiving a refund due to the...

Reservation for this place is special and I was lucky to get it in 1 year advance, but as we found out from others staying with us there are cancellations so keep checking their website and you may be lucky as well. It is a old historic place build with stone and wood. Dining room is the only heated building...

My wife and I spent two nights here the first week in September. The Park was very smoky when we arrived Saturday but it rained Saturday night and cleared it all out. We walked up from Lake McDonald Lodge Tuesday and enjoyed the walk. It took us about 4 hours not counting a leisurely lunch near Beaver Medicine Falls. I...

We hiked from the Lake McDonald trailhead which was a steep climb and not that interesting. The trail wasn't very busy but we did meet several parties either going or returning from Sperry. We were surprised to see a couple of women hiking alone along the trail. It took us about 5 1/2 hrs to reach the chalet. We were...

We stayed for 3 nights in August. During that time we hiked up to Sperry Glacier & Gunsight Pass. Several waterfalls near the chalet. Mountain Goats hang out around the chalet, so expect to see them everyday. The staff was wonderful. they served Breakfast & Dinner. Lunch was a sack lunch prepared by the staff. Most people spent the day...

Sperry Chalet isn't for everyone- it's about a six and a half mile hike (or horseback ride), mostly uphill and through trees so there isn't much of a view on the way up. But as you approach, just follow the delicious smell of baking bread and pies to the main building, and while you are checking in the staff will...
