Sweet and charming hotel, straight out of the early 1900s. This place is a Family run place, and it is just about exactly as you would imagine it to be. Get away from louzy "luxury" hotels that all feel the same and go get yourself the Real Thing. This is how a hotel in the Alps should be. Cozy, warm,... More

We (couple, early thirties, no kids) went there during a rainy weekend (prebooked) in June. Good: - warm welcome by the friendly staff - nice atmospheric old hotel with free parking and wifi - good quality/price ratio for the region - nice clean big room with a balcony Bad: - creaky floorboards everywhere. Comes with the atmospheric hotel though. -... More

I've read a few reviews of this hotel and I've stayed there. It all depends on what you're after. This is a perfect old world hotel in an incredible location and in a wonderful little village. It's not a Hilton and that was not what I wanted. Family run business from it's inception, I was given a tour by a... More

We found this hotel on the internet before coming to Switzerland. This is a classic old Swiss hotel in village of Evolene. With warm wood everywhere one feels at home as if in 19th Century Switzerland. The village is high up the side of the Rhone Valley in a beautiful mountain setting. Evidently the fall season is slow here and... More

Stayed here for two nights whilst attempting to get ready to climb Dent Blanche. Worst weather in 50 years in July put a stop to that. Lovely family run hotel who made you feel very welcome. Rooms a bit spartan but this is only rated as a two-star, so they were very comfortable and reasonably well equipped for this grade.... More

Stayed for a night while we took a break between hikes. Evolene is a hidden gem near the end of the valley & one of the prettiest towns in Switzerland. Not yet too affected by mass tourism (at least when we were there) with a very relaxed ambience. The Hermitage continues this atmosphere with a yesteryear feel & it's only... More

Two friends from Australia were staying with us recently and my husband and I decided to take them to a real Swiss mountain hotel - something old and typical of life in Switzerland in days gone by. We chose the Hotel Hermitage in Evolène. Evolène is in the Valais and is above Sion, the capital of the Valais, at an... More

Five of us stayed for 2 nights in July 2013, in 2 en-suite rooms . We could not have been more enchanted by the hotel’s rustic charm. The beds were comfortable, the bathtubs deep, the pretty antique furnishings made us were feel we were staying in someone’s house, not a hotel. The rooms and bathrooms were immaculate, the lounge was... More

My 'very good' has to be understood in the proper context- eg it is fantastic value for money, and a real feel for Ye Olde Switzerland. I stayed with a friend and we each had a 2 bedded room each, with a sink and old-fashioned bathroom at the end of the corridor, No problem as we were the only ones... More

Stayed two nights April 2013. Hotel is very old. Linoleum on walls in bathroom is falling off, floors are incredibly squeeky and bed even more so. Shampoo was a single brief of duschgel and shampoo combo for two people for two days. Breakfast with cheap industiral food - not even a local cheese available. Service was very friendly and helping... More
