We have just returned from our 2 week visit to Japan!! I couldn't wait to write this review in honor of all the staff that extended themselves to us as we set out to explore Japan and use The Kimpton as our base. We had a wonderful room on a high floor which I would recommend as its wonderful to look onto the city. The room was very clean, modern, comfortable and had everything we needed and more. The shower and tub were also just a great experience. Though we loved our room we loved the staff the most. We were sad to leave this hotel after getting know some of the employees on a daily basis. It started with the concierge who I contacted prior to arrival and she guided us to the best ways to get to the hotel from the Narita airport and gave us much needed information to make our travels smooth. We relied on them for restaurant recommendations, as well a carrier service to send our luggage to Kyoto Hotel and laundry services. All were perfect and the staff was extremely professional. Tomoko and Meg Thank you for all your kind and patient assistance! Also YASA and the staff at the 2nd floor restaurant made our stay feel like we were with family. We were truly sad to leave our friends who served us the most amazing breakfast every day with smiles and joy. Antoine the F&B manager was excellent! We watched how he tirelessly engaged with the many guests day in and out and he made us feel very welcome. He also sent us off to his favorite places that he likes to go to on his days off. We loved his recommendation to visit Kamakura beach and Yokohama on the most beautiful weekend. Thanks to all the staff we are not mentioning by name who made this the incredible trip it was. We will be back and recommending to all our friends. Worth every penny!

The service is perfect. From Reception to restaurant staffs, everyone is ready to welcome guests as friends. I have to say I prefer this style, not the Japanese way of emphasizing superiority of guests, but acknowledging you as a dear friend to provide the best accommodation. I find it very relaxing.

The room is small but equipped with everything I need. The bed is very comfortable and I could fall asleep as soon I crawled into bed after a long, stressful day.

The room service tasted OK, but the cafe downstairs has some really nice options and is ready to adjust to different allergy needs.
I am also surprised to learn that the hotel allows pets. I think the management was very well done that I do not find any discomfort from it.

I find the tablet system very convenient because as a millennial I really prefer pushing buttons instead of calling someone for my needs. However the tablet system can probably have more improvement such as allowing me to check what I have requested as well as specifying the delivery time.

The only downside about this hotel is probably traffic. It is unfortunately not very close to Shinjuku station, and they do not have taxi always available downstairs, so you need to wait for about 10mins for them to order the taxi (and yes, you have to pay for the order fee). Otherwise, if you plan to rent a car and drive around Tokyo, I am sure it will be a convenient hotel for you.

It was a little far from Shinjuku Station, but the location was not bad because there was a bus stop right in front of the hotel that you ride you to the station for only 100yen. It is a walking distance from Meiji Jingu and the hotel is very modern and sophisticated. The service of the staff was excellent and the social hours and welcome amenities were very satisfying. All the staff were good at English and helpful. The facilities are very clean and the lounge is well decorated as well. I would definitely come back in the future.

New and modern hotel. Some people complain about the location but we didn’t mind the 10 minute walking distance to the station since we need to walk off all the foods we ate.
Front staff was young, energetic and willing to help. However I don’t think the service level is not a 5 star service.
Emails to concierge took a long time to get responses.
I booked massage treatments for the whole family and was not aware that they didn’t have a spa, and it was in room massage only.
Breakfast was 5000 yen per person and I didn’t think it was worth it.
I would stay again only if there’s a good deal

Hotel Amenities: Didn't really use any of them this time. My platinum IHC bonus was a free drink but only for wine or non-alcoholic beverages, which I thought was odd, but that's fine. They did have a pretty cool coffee service in the mornings we didn't get a chance to try. Also, they're not technically the hotel's amenities but the dogs everywhere were so much fun.

Room: Oh man, if you're a fan of Malin + Goetz you're going to LOVE the amenities in this room. The bath amenities come from the new Goetz Atelier and they are heavenly. Room was a little small but still serviceable - suitcases absolutely did not fit into the closet but overall I thought it was well designed in a space efficient manner. The bathroom has sliding doors to turn it into an actual room for privacy. Shower + bath combo was ideal since Lush was having their One Piece collab and I had to give them a try!

Location: Close enough to Shinjuku station area to walk easily *without* luggage but far enough to be a pain *with* luggage. Also walkable to Shinjuku Gyoen.

I booked a suite at the Kimpton Shinjuku on a recent business trip to Japan. I’m an IHG Ambassador + Diamond member, and have stayed in many other Kimpton hotels. Overall I was disappointed, won’t be back and don’t recommend this hotel if you’re traveling on business.

The suite isn’t really a suite. It’s just a larger room with a sofa and small coffee table, but with no separate living area.

There’s no table and chair that you can work from. This was odd, especially for a suite. You basically have to work from bed which was difficult and annoying.

My room was noisy and facing a busy junction. For me this made sleeping quite difficult and I had to use earplugs (not provided by the hotel). I’ve asked to change rooms but was told all rooms in my category faced the same direction.

Important IHG Ambassador benefits were not offered. First, there was no upgrade and when I asked, reception replied they don’t upgrade suites. Second, late checkout, which for IHG Ambassadors is typically 4pm, was only 2pm. The hotel refused to allow me to keep the room longer. Third, minibar items aren’t free. Other Kimptons offer free minibar items for Ambassador and suite bookings.

The pet policy of the hotel is also quite strange. While I’m not that bothered with dogs around me, when a family showed up to breakfast with a pig, it felt a bit too much. I am not sure if the pig had the bacon for breakfast… but I, personally, prefer to have my breakfast without the company of the source of my food.

On the positive side, all staff were extremely professional and friendly; the location is good; the hotel is new, immaculately clean and has modern design which is quite rare in the area. Breakfast was great and complimentary for IHG Ambassadors.

I was dubious about staying here, because the neighborhood, for me, is one of Tokyo's least interesting. But the lovely staff and hotel amenities quickly won me over.

Neighborhoods, of course, are a personal preference, and I realize that people with business/government meetings nearby might find this location perfect. For me, it lacks the sense of street life that I enjoy elsewhere. I didn't mind the walks to train or subway stations, which aren't that long. I just didn't find them very interesting.

That said, the Kimpton's rooms are stylish and comfortable, and the young and enthusiastic staff members are helpful and welcoming. They're likely to greet you and ask how your day is going when you return to the hotel, which gives it a personal feel. There's a complimentary cocktail hour in one of the lounges each evening and a complimentary latte or other hot beverage in the popular coffee shop in the morning. Unless you want a big breakfast, that latte and a purchased pastry (the shop had good ones) are enough to get your day started.

In another part of the city, the Kimpton would rate a definite five in my view. And even in an area that isn't my favorite, it's now on my list of top-rated Tokyo hotels.

Our stay was adequate. The breakfast was ok. Poor quality juice and a lot of faff for absolutely nothing special. The afternoon tea was not a “traditional” afternoon tea …so we were expecting a Japanese twist, take on an afternoon tea but this was more like a poorly cooked lunch followed by too much sweet pink sugary cakes that all tasted the same. No luxury and no flavour contrast. My salad was a bowl of lettuce. At least serve the tea in a china cup and saucer..or a delicate equivalent that keeps the tea hot and not a porcelain cup in a dirty saucer. Putting a cherry blossom display on the table (only if you’ve ordered the premium afternoon tea) does not equate to a luxury experience. Too much money for an ok hotel in an ok location. Wouldn’t stay here again.

We had an incredible stay at the Kimpton Shinjuku!! We stayed there for three nights as part of a longer trip and had a lot of luggage. The room had a great layout that allowed us to get in and out of our bags without them being in the way and taking up the entire room. We had in room dining both breakfast and dinner during our stay and they were both top notch in taste, menu option and delivery. We attended the social hour which provided great views of the city along with the ability to meet and talk to the team there. The hotel is beautiful but its the team there sends it over the top. Front Desk, Concierge, Bell Staff, everyone was so kind. Genuinely kind. We met the Kiwame, the Director of Rooms, and you can really tell that the genuineness starts from the top! I would stay here again in a heart beat. I cannot wait to go back to Shinkjuku and to stay at the Kimpton again!

Checked in 5 hours later than stated time yet walking into the room staff was rushing last minute cleaning in front me. The room was extremely tiny compared to the price and to other Kimpton to the point where packing luggages for two people became impossible. The least favorite Kimpton for me so far. I am a diamond customer and I checked that other rooms were still available but they did not offer room upgrade compared to other countries where I get even two or three steps upgrade. Location was not great either, staff weren't attentive and definitely not Kimpton level.
