Kimpton Shinjuku Tokyo stands out for its clean, modern rooms, although a few guests find them on the smaller side. The hotel's amenities, including the delectable breakfast and congenial happy hour, consistently receive accolades. While some guests debate the value, the chic atmosphere and the diligent, warm-hearted staff garner universal praise. Its location near Shinjuku Station is mostly appreciated, despite a few mentions of minor inconvenience. Overall, the hotel's meticulous cleanliness and thoughtful touches contribute to a welcoming and comfortable stay.

We have become big fans of the Kimpton brand within the IHG stable of hotels. We love the boutique feel and the quirkiness of each property. This hotel is a new, purpose built building and understand it opened just prior to COVID. This means the hotel still feels really new.

I am going to get the one negative out of the way.....it is a bit of a walk to any public transport. The two nearest stations are at least a 15 minute walk away. This seems fine until the end of the day and you feel like you have crossed the Shibuya Scramble about 1,000 time - oh my poor feet.

Back to the accolades. This is a great hotel. I could just finish the review there!

From the moment we were checked in by Alex we were made to feel welcome and part of the family. Even though we had missed the social hour he still arranged a welcome drink for us to take to the room.

We booked a King Premium Room (with complimentary mini bar - drinks and snacks) which is what we got. No status upgrades available during this busy time at New Year. I don't rely on upgrades these days but book the room that I want, not that I hope for. Tokyo rooms are generally smaller and this was generously sized. It also had a very comfortable couch along with the king bed. Bathroom was sort of traditional Japanese with a separate bathing area with a deep bath. The completely separate toiled (powder room) was a great addition.

Was so nice to see the return of turn down service which was executed with precision each night. Great water pressure in the shower and decent amenities.

The Kimpton Signatures are some of the things that just add to make your stay feel more special. The ability to grab a coffee from the cafe in the morning is great. The social hour is one of the more generous with flowing drinks and canapes. Currently held on level 16 in a beautiful and comfortable conference/wedding space. This is where we got to know some of the staff who make this place really special.

Shout out to Maxime (General Manager) who was so welcoming and happy to chat. Also to Antione and Mei who always had a smile on their face when they saw us. The fact they made a point of waving us farewell was very touching.

As for dining, there is one main restaurant on level two - District. Food was good quality but I found the service at breakfast quite slow. There is no buffet but they have a clever menu that allows you to order a range of items at an effective discount. We also enjoyed dinner here. Again, nothing to really fault - Antione runs a tight ship.

We had four nights here and loved it. We then moved to the ANA InterContinental - review to follow.

We have just returned from our 2 week visit to Japan!! I couldn't wait to write this review in honor of all the staff that extended themselves to us as we set out to explore Japan and use The Kimpton as our base. We had a wonderful room on a high floor which I would recommend as its wonderful to look onto the city. The room was very clean, modern, comfortable and had everything we needed and more. The shower and tub were also just a great experience. Though we loved our room we loved the staff the most. We were sad to leave this hotel after getting know some of the employees on a daily basis. It started with the concierge who I contacted prior to arrival and she guided us to the best ways to get to the hotel from the Narita airport and gave us much needed information to make our travels smooth. We relied on them for restaurant recommendations, as well a carrier service to send our luggage to Kyoto Hotel and laundry services. All were perfect and the staff was extremely professional. Tomoko and Meg Thank you for all your kind and patient assistance! Also YASA and the staff at the 2nd floor restaurant made our stay feel like we were with family. We were truly sad to leave our friends who served us the most amazing breakfast every day with smiles and joy. Antoine the F&B manager was excellent! We watched how he tirelessly engaged with the many guests day in and out and he made us feel very welcome. He also sent us off to his favorite places that he likes to go to on his days off. We loved his recommendation to visit Kamakura beach and Yokohama on the most beautiful weekend. Thanks to all the staff we are not mentioning by name who made this the incredible trip it was. We will be back and recommending to all our friends. Worth every penny!

The Kimpton Shinjuku exceeded expectations from the moment we arrived. Customer service was exemplary. The location is incredible with wonderful design touches. Our room was larger than expected and very thoughtfully designed to maximize space. The separate shower room and sink and toilet areas made getting ready seamless. Our room type had a free minibar which was wonderful for mid meal snacks. The food at the restaurant was top-notch and the daily happy hour was an added bonus and provided an opportunity to meet both other guests and the incredible staff. The breakfast was next level beautiful and it’s definitely worth trying dinner and the rooftop bar as well during your stay. The gym is large, bright, clean and open 24/7. What really made our stay so amazing was the staff, customer service was top notch and staff really went out of their way to provide support recommendations and help you feel welcome. Extra special shout out to Food and Beverage GM, Antoine for his customized recommendations of things to see, including where to find the best kitchen knife, a locals sake store, and a day trip to the coast. Antoine helped us get off the beaten path to find hidden gems in the big city. The only issue is that you’ll never want to leave.

[This hotel is awful. I'll explain why.]
I've never seen such a luxury hotel with so many 1-star ratings! I should have read the reviews properly!

I stayed here with my dog on my wife's birthday.
I visited this hotel with high hopes that it would be a luxury hotel where pets can stay.

In recent years, this type of hotel has been increasing in Tokyo, and I use it every year on anniversaries, but to be honest, I can't recommend it in one word: "awful".

The first thing that surprised me was that there was no bathtub even though the price was the same as Chinzanso and Shangri-La! And... The reservation site mentioned this in small words.

At first, I couldn't believe it, so I called to check, and was told that there were rooms without bathtubs due to the structure of the building.

What? It's a luxury hotel, right? ?
I asked repeatedly.
Even Mitsui Garden Toyosu, which has an open-air bath on a high floor as part of its hotel concept, has an indoor bath in the room.
I realized this close to the anniversary date, so I had no choice but to stay there instead of canceling.
The website describes it as being as luxurious as a New York art gallery, but I thought it was more like a business hotel with a few improvements, or perhaps even a love hotel.
I understand that this is a matter of personal preference, but the fittings, furniture, and structure are all far from luxurious.
The thing that surprised me the most was the restaurant.
Apparently discounts are applied to guests staying overnight, but there was no explanation at all when making the reservation, and the next day, at breakfast, the waiter started discussing the prices right in front of my girlfriend, who was celebrating her anniversary.
``We've made a high reservation this time, and if you take the pictures well, it will cost this much...'' I wondered what he was talking about.
Should I ask the person in question how much the best gift I could give him in front of her?
I tried my best to keep calm because I knew my girlfriend's worries would ruin the experience, but this was the first time I'd experienced such rudeness in a hotel.
I'm writing my first review in the hope that no one else will have the same experience.

New hotel with a great vibe and friendly services. Love the simple design from the entrance to the room. I can see there are detail put into place to ensure a comfortable stay of the guests.

Being a newer hotel in the area has its advantage such as room design and the fresh smell. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. Always with a smile even with the staffs in the cafe. The only down side is the location. Walking back and forth between Shinjuku JR and the shopping area is a good 30mins walk. It is ok if you don’t have big luggage to haul around. Otherwise there is still bus as an alternative option.

Parking fee is a hefty 4000 yen per day. But you pay for the convenient. Otherwise you can also park at the Washington Hotel nearby which is just a few mins walk away.

It is a pet-friendly hotel, but for families without pets, there is no need to worry about allergies. The room is clean, the bed is comfortable, there is a large bathtub, there is welcome tea in the lobby, and the service staff are warm and friendly. It is a very modern and modern hotel. There are registered children traveling with us in this accommodation, and the bed surrounds required when booking the room are all ready. Children's leopard print bathrobes are also provided, which is very cute and considerate. Free coffee and tea are provided in the morning, making it the first choice hotel when traveling in Shinjuku.

The hotel is located in the business area and the quieter part of Shinjuku and you have to really like walking to reach the busy, crowded, and crazier side of Shinjuku. The hotel is also a 15 minute walk to/from Shinjuku station so be prepared to walk which is inconvenient especially if you have luggage and it’s summer — very warm and insanely humid in Tokyo. The hotel itself is a boutique style hotel, relatively new, with a nice cool quirky vibe which is typically Kimpton-esque. We enjoyed matcha latte in the lounge in the mornings and happy hour in the rooftop in the evenings. The rooms and bathrooms had floor to ceiling windows with urban views, were very clean and was furnished minimalist style, had enough square footage, had all the amenities, and even a freestanding soaking bathtub with outside views. Our room was cleaned daily and services were satisfactory. The refreshing cool infused water in the lobby wqs a relief at the end of a warm humid day of walking. Highly recommend if you need peace and quiet which is almost impossible in Shinjuku.

Our stay was adequate. The breakfast was ok. Poor quality juice and a lot of faff for absolutely nothing special. The afternoon tea was not a “traditional” afternoon tea …so we were expecting a Japanese twist, take on an afternoon tea but this was more like a poorly cooked lunch followed by too much sweet pink sugary cakes that all tasted the same. No luxury and no flavour contrast. My salad was a bowl of lettuce. At least serve the tea in a china cup and saucer..or a delicate equivalent that keeps the tea hot and not a porcelain cup in a dirty saucer. Putting a cherry blossom display on the table (only if you’ve ordered the premium afternoon tea) does not equate to a luxury experience. Too much money for an ok hotel in an ok location. Wouldn’t stay here again.

We had an incredible stay at the Kimpton Shinjuku!! We stayed there for three nights as part of a longer trip and had a lot of luggage. The room had a great layout that allowed us to get in and out of our bags without them being in the way and taking up the entire room. We had in room dining both breakfast and dinner during our stay and they were both top notch in taste, menu option and delivery. We attended the social hour which provided great views of the city along with the ability to meet and talk to the team there. The hotel is beautiful but its the team there sends it over the top. Front Desk, Concierge, Bell Staff, everyone was so kind. Genuinely kind. We met the Kiwame, the Director of Rooms, and you can really tell that the genuineness starts from the top! I would stay here again in a heart beat. I cannot wait to go back to Shinkjuku and to stay at the Kimpton again!

We recently stayed to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was overall a decent stay. Their team even left us a nice little dessert tray and lovely handwritten note upon arrival to congratulate us on our anniversary.

The hotel itself is a small boutique-y feel with a small entrance and lobby. The rooms are on the small side as expected, but quite nice and very clean with complimentary water that gets restocked daily. The location of the property is quite convenient with it only being a 10 minute walk to Shinjuku station. Ubers are easy to get as well.

Despite being quite friendly in person, the front desk and concierge took quite a while to get back to us via email, not responding for 1-2 days and sometimes ONLY after I had followed up for an answer. This was disappointing because as you can imagine, time is extremely valuable on a trip, and requests like restaurant reservation assistance cannot always wait 1-2 days. They were also not able to secure any reservations for us (not even 1!), which is unprecedented for any hotel concierge that I have experienced in any country.

In contrast, we stayed at InterContinental in a different city later on in our trip and their concierge would respond via email in 10-15 minutes max and were able to handle all of our reservation requests seamlessly.

Overall, I would only recommend staying here if you can speak Japanese and have no issues handling restaurant reservations on your own or have zero need for the concierge.

As others have mentioned in their reviews, I also recommend taking the Airport Limousine Shuttle Bus to the nearby Washington Hotel and then walking around the corner to get to Kimpton since Kimpton doesn't have it's own shuttle stop.
