Aman Tokyo is Aman's first urban retreat, located in the heart of the Financial District of Tokyo. No matter the rush outside its door, the 5-star and all-suite hotel offers a serene sanctuary high above Tokyo with just 84 guest suites. Iconic design represents the perfect balance of urban dynamism and cultural sensibility and is the epitome of Japanese minimalism - nonetheless, a dramatic lobby framed by a gigantic washi paper lantern and anchored by a zen garden of water, gravel and rocks will welcome the guests.

Our first Aman experience and definitely not the last, if anything we are keen to try other Aman locations now. We stayed at Aman Tokyo for our anniversary and it was absolutely flawless. We arrived early after a long haul flight from London and the staff at the car bay were super attentive. They guided us to the reception and the kind staff member at reception explained our room wasn’t ready yet but welcomed us to wait in the lobby. We knew we arrive earlier than check in time but the lobby was extremely tranquil, not like other luxury hotels which at times can always be busy. We were only waiting at the lobby for around 20 mins until the receptionist said our room was ready. During the waiting time we were offered a drink and a hot towel which is usually customary in Japan but regardless everything offered was done in a very elegant manner. Non invasive, welcoming and not too much. Balance is everything! We were upgraded to a suite and it was absolutely gorgeous. It’s a pity we could not enjoy it much. There is so much to do in Tokyo and the last thing you want to do is stay in your hotel room. We used the gym early in the morning and it was super. Great selection of equipment, great view and there was even a ballet bar ! We didn’t get to use the pool or the onsen but I’m sure it is fantastic. Breakfast in the room was the best Japanese breakfast I’ve had and it’s been awhile since we have found something which really is mind blowing. Overall the staff is top, the room is incredible, the food quality is outstanding and location is fantastic. If ££££ is not an issue, it’s by far our favourite in Tokyo. (And this particular trip we stayed at 7 different 5 star establishments) If you are looking for a private flawless hotel, Aman Tokyo is the one.

This was the 22nd Aman in which I have been a guest. I was fortune enough to be booked in the Aman Suite, the hotel’s best accommodation. As an “Aman junkie,” I am always rooting for the brand’s success and hoping and looking for the best in each new property I visit. And yes, as reported by others, there is much to be enthusiastic about here: the pool (perhaps the best of any city hotel anywhere in the world), the views, the extraordinary space that is the main lounge area, the restrained zen architecture and interior design. But on two fronts, this property has yet to live up to the Aman brand promise. The first is consistent competence – any high end five-star hotel should get everything right, consistently. Here, I experienced a bewildering series of small errors which left me wondering if the staff had adequate training and management (for example, repeated meal service glitches, guest-facing staff with insufficient English to communicate effectively, a front desk that I found completely unstaffed on two mid-day visits, spa personnel of uneven quality, even an assurance upon departure for the airport that my luggage had been brought down and placed in the car which, when I insisted on checking, turned out not to be the case). The second front is more subjective. Even making allowances for the formality of Japanese culture and the obvious distinction between city hotels and resort properties, I found the atmosphere strangely cold. Many interactions seemed to lack the personal hospitality that is at the core of the Aman culture. Never rude, of course, but too may staff either made little effort, or offered smiles that seemed forced. And even with a less than full hotel, a stay of three nights, and occupation of the best suite, my guest experience was more like the commoditized product of the better 5-star chains (e.g., Four Seasons) than an Aman. There were notable exceptions. The concierge responded to prearrival emails promptly and helpfully, made excellent arrangements and followed through to see that things had gone well. The spa had a deeply experienced Shiatsu master who delivered a memorable treatment. The housekeeping staff were both invisible and meticulous. Would I stay again? Yes, and it may well out-perform its Tokyo competition. But still, there is room for improvement.

Amazing location, view, building service. Possibly the best spot in Tokyo. Impressive high ceiling lobby and panoramic modern super comfy bedrooms. Japanese top service. High quality ingredients. Super pricey but I did not regret the days there

Our base for a week in Tokyo and we would be back in a hearbeat. Beautiful hotel and stunning room with a floor to ceiling view over the city. The service in the hotel was very professional and welcoming and concierge went out of their way for us. The food is good and the wine list includes some great Japanese wines which the sommelier happily walked us through. Our only gripe would be the bar area which has arbitrary seating, we were moved on several occasions as tables apprently reserved only for no-one to turn up for the hour we were there. They seemed to give preference to people visiting the bar rather than actual paying guests. Otherwise all perfect.

This is one of the most beautiful city hotels I have ever seen. We were jet lagged and exhausted the night we arrived and walking into that amazing entry woke us right up. The views are spectacular. The service is on another level- just as you expect from Aman properties. Every single staff member is kind, helpful and friendly. Our corner king suite was large with floor to ceiling views of Tokyo so sunsets and sunrises were incredible. The lounge was a perfect spot pre and post dinner and the tree lined area is really pretty and a great base for exploring as Tokyo station is near. It really is worthy of all the amazing reviews.

It pains me to dump on an Aman as I’m a big fan of the brand, but the truth is this one simply isn’t worth it in my opinion. What makes Aman unique is finding luxury in remote and unexpected places, so the Amans located in big cities make much less sense to me. The hotel is of course very pleasant - a tastefully done, zen space with amazing views. But the location, packed in an area which houses many of Tokyo’s 5 star hotels, is actually really not the ideal place to stay in my opinion - you’re better off staying in one of Tokyo’s atmospheric low rise neighbourhoods like Aoyama. There were a couple of things that surprised me: a pretty limited food menu in the main restaurant (same menu for lunch and dinner), and they don’t serve any fresh fruit juices at all, which seems crazy given the price point. The best thing about the Aman is the very beautiful spa and pool area - I enjoyed spending an afternoon there on a cloudy / rainy day. It was far better than at any of the other hotels I stayed at in Tokyo. If the Aman were priced like a “regular” luxury hotel, I’d have no hesitation recommending it. As is however, unless you’re totally price insensitive, I’d probably recommend the Four Seasons Otemachi over it if you’re looking for a 5 star high rise experience.

This was probably my favorite hotel experience ever. We stayed in #103 which had an enormous bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, and office nook for 8 nights and I didn't want to leave. The pool, spa, and gym are wonderful amenities as is the room service. The vibe is calm and casual even in the bustling city. We will definitely be back!

Aman Tokyo sets a new standard for exceptional hard products. Despite a mishap on our first night when we returned from dinner to find our room uncleaned, the front desk manager promptly apologized and offered complimentary drinks. The head of housekeeping also personally apologized at breakfast and showered us with thoughtful gestures like a fruit platter and free laundry. Subsequently, our stay was faultless. Aman Tokyo also boasts stunning design and architecture and a strategic location near Otemachi station, Tokyo station, the Imperial Palace, and Ginza. Its awe-inspiring atrium leaves a lasting impression. The generously sized rooms, starting at 70 square meters, feature high ceilings throughout, with unforgettable views of the imperial gardens from the bed. Even the retractable TV showcases its thoughtful design, providing guests with an unobstructed view of the Tokyo skyline. The hotel's farewell was equally remarkable. Providing a complimentary hotel car transfer to Tokyo station, while being escorted by another staff member who went the extra mile to purchase our tickets, carry our luggage to the platform, store our luggage on the train and brought us to our seats. Undoubtedly, this luxury at Aman Tokyo comes at a price. However, delivers the sought-after wow factor for which its rates command. After all, Tokyo is one of the most expensive cities in the world. From the grand lobby to the inviting pool and spacious rooms, the hotel impresses on many levels. Managing expectations is, however, key. It would be unrealistic to expect the usual Aman-type of service commonly associated with their other properties whose room counts are a lot smaller. While the initial mishap was regrettable, the subsequent personalized attention and meticulous service surpassed expectations for a city hotel with 80 rooms. Whether this was due to the initial mishap or reflective of their usual standards remains unknown, warranting another stay on my next visit to Tokyo.

Aman Tokyo is definitely amongst the top 3 hotels in Tokyo, if not the best when it comes to the rooms. The lobby is spacious although perhaps too happening if you are used to quieter Aman surroundings (in the past it was for hotel guests only now anyone can access the bar), but the rooms, gym and pool are top notch, with some nice restaurant offerings. You will not be let down in this place.
