On its own, the Lutheran is a good hotel. Fairly Spartan, but in a Japanese way, with sleepers and a very cool bathrobe in the room. Room which is, as is the norm in Japan, quite small.

But what makes the hotel a great value is the location. It is about 100 meters from the Osaka Castle and another 100 meters from the metro station. For my routine, this is perfect. A run around the Castle in the morning (it is one gorgeous route), and easy access to anywhere in the city.

As I mentioned, the room is small, but not the smaller you will find in Japan. It is very clean, and the bed is very comfortable, IF you like your mattresses on the very firm side. I thought the breakfast was expensive, so I used the 7-11 which across the metro.

All in all, I can safely recommend the Lutheran, specially if you are looking to stay that close to the Osaka Castle.

Overall a no-fuss hotel thats good value for money. Although rooms were small (as expected in Japan) it was nice and clean with all the basic necessities you need. Hotel located walking distance to Osaka Castle, close to subway station exit, 7-11. A pleasant 2 night stay, with no complaints.

Overall, good value for money. The room is bigger than most of Japanese standard within similar class, and very clean. Service was also very good. We sent a couple of luggages by courier from another hotel in Osaka a few days before check-in. When we arrived at the hotel, they have prepared the room with our luggages waiting inside. When we had to check out early, the staff stored our luggages in the lobby and was very kind to keep our cheesecakes in the hotel's fridge until we're back in the afternoon. She also helped to book a taxi to airport then carried our luggages to the taxi. Location wise, the hotel is quite convenient. Only 1 minute walk from station exit, and there's a minimart nearby. Osaka castle is just a short walk. However, it's a bit of walk within the station itself from Tanimachiyonchome to Osaka Station, so if travelling with heavy luggages, maybe taxi is more convenient option. Would happy to return to this hotel next time.

I stayed here with my brother and sister-in-law for a few days at the end of my holiday in Japan and we could not have been happier.

Osaka Castle is literally just around the castle and if you leave your window open at night you can hear the music from the nighttime show, Tannimachi-4-chome exit 1b brings you out just along the road from the hotel and makes it easy to get anywhere in the city. We got to Universal studios with just 2 quick changes on what is a very easy to use underground system and the same for our trip to Kyoto.

The hotel is clean and comfortable and while the staff are not super friendly they are efficient and get the job done for about £50-60 a night you really can't complain.

The shower and bath were appreciated after a long day in the city and the room was super comfortable with a big 7-11 close by to stock up on essentials and a nice selection of restaurants in the area.

We stayed here for two nights before we flew home from Kansai. The hotel was pretty good value for what you get. Nothing too spectacular, but everything is well appointed and clean.
It is also right next to a metro station on two lines, however finding your way from the metro to the hotel can be a bit tricky as there are no signs point ing to the hotel. (For reference, 1B is the best exit - keep walking straight out 1B and it is about 25m on the left. Exit 1A is also close and has a lift / elevator, if you have luggage).
The hotel is built beside / on top of a (presumably Lutheran) church, though the door was locked when we went to look at it, so I cannot confirm whether it is in use.
It is walking distance from Osaka castle, which is a nice attraction (if a little fake given that the current structure dates from the 1930s).
To get to Kansai Airport we took the metro four stops south to Tennoji and then took a local train to the airport (¥1030, 45 mins, about one train per hour). There was also an express from Tennoji which took 37 mins and cost about ¥2,000, but we had more than 8 minutes to spare so we saved our cash.

Hotel the Lutheran is something of a secret hidden from Western tourists. Its website is not easily navigated if you cannot read Japanese and it does not come up in searches on many booking sites, such as Expedia. However, its reviews on Tripadvisor were very positive and broadly deserved.

The hotel staff were friendly and spoke a little English. The hotel is attached to a Lutheran convention centre; however, the staff did not seem concerned that we were two groups of gay male couples wishing to share double beds. They checked with us that our booking was correct, but did not question it further.

The hotel rooms were very surprising for such an economical business hotel – light and airy and much larger than expected. The hotel facilities were excellent and breakfast (which was included) good.

The location was the hotel’s only drawback: travelling anywhere necessitated a ride on the subway. However, the subway is clean, efficient and reasonably priced. We had chosen to stay in Osaka as a central point for travelling to Kyoto and to Koya-san. It took around 90 minutes each day to travel to Kyoto.

The hotel looks brand new. The size is like any typical japanese hotel rooms. there was pc provided in the room and there was also free internet provided. breakfast was not too bad...a combination of japanese and american breakfast. overall the hotel is not bad and is located near the osaka castle. the surroundings of the hotel is not bad as well.

This is a good, clean hotel in a nice area of Osaka, quite close to Osaka Castle. It is far from the crowds, but pretty close to the subway. We had wrongly booked a smoking room but the hotel quickly made some arrangements, despite being full, and gave us a non smoking room, which was really nice from them. My only complaint is that rooms are really, really small, but I guess this is what you get in Osaka. Overall, a pretty good stay.

As the title would suggest, yes ideally located right next to the metro station and also within minutes of the Osaka castle. Bathroom was tight and outdated actually the whole hotel needs a new look. However its the price you pay that bugs me, it is overpriced and that is the major reaon its getting a low rate from me because there isnt really anything significantly wrong besides that.

I made an excellent choice. I booked two rooms for a family trip in mid-November. Although quite small in size, the rooms are very clean, well maintained. Beds are comfortable. The location is a short walk from the Tanimachi subway exit. A 7-11 store is right beside this exit and it proved very helpful - due to our late night arrival at the hotel, 7-11 had all what we needed for our dinner. Osaka Castle is nearby too.

One negative point in this hotel is that their reception staff are efficient: we had a quick check in and check out - but lacking in customer interaction. Poker faced, aloof, seem to have no time to greet staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view. Otherwise you might get a room that looks out into walls and windows...

It seems that the hotel does not offer diner menu. Are there good restaurants nearby?
Answer from GraceKawashima
Shinjuku, Japan99 contributions62 helpful votes
A Restaurant inside, "PASTA & CAFE OLIVE" is open only for breakfast and lunch. Near Tanimachi San-chome crossing, it means the area 150m from this hotel, there are some Japanese Izakaya, Ramen shop, Yakitori (Grilled Chicken kebab) restaurant, Yakiniku Restaurant (Grilled beef) restaurant and McDonald's. I recommend 'Matsuzakiya'(Casual, Local, Authentic Izakaya) just on south east corner of the crossing. 'Pizzeria Morita' about 1km from the hotel, near Tanimachi Roku-chome Stn. is good. 'Unagi Nishihara' is fine. 'Takotake' close at 19:30. So, anser is up to your arrival time, dining style and level of exhaustion.
