The hotel was clean and well situated. The rooms though were small and so were the bathrooms. There was a great problem at the reception. The staff had very little experience and although they tried to be helpful they could hardly understand two simple words of English. It is absolutely unacceptable to work in hotels and be unable to speak English and to communicate with clients. The only person speaking English was the head of the reception team and she tried very hard to attend to the client’s needs but obviously she could not do everything by herself.

I stayed at APA Villa Osaka Tanimachi 4 Chome for 27 nights in Januar 2015

In short:
- I chose the hotel based on it's proximity to the subway, and price-range, and was not disappointed.
- The restaurant (and breakfast) is not worth it. Opt for one of the abundant neighborhood restaurants.
- Rooms are, compared to european standards, very small. Bathrooms even smaller, but using the communal gender-divided bath in the basement is both relaxing and convenient.
- Staff is helpful, but as many Japanese, they don't speak English very well.

Rooms
I tried the single, but I felt it was more of a shoebox than a room, so changed immediately to a Twin-double. Rooms have the bare necessities. But theres no closetspace and practically no room for your suitcase. I had mine by the foot of the bed and it only just fitted in there. Theres a TV with Japanese-only channels, a dresser/desk, chair, fan and aircon. In addition, a small fridge, freezer and water boiler. The bathroom is small and feels like a plastic box-incert into the room. Haven’t tried the shower, as theres a communal shower in the basement (see section: Hotel Spa).

Hotel
The hotel is clean and neat. Theres no superfluous decorations, but it feels like what it is: a chain.hotel aimed at short-term business clients.

Hotel Resturant
Avoid. See section: Neighborhood

Hotel Spa
Located in the basement, theres a gender-devided communal shower, as found many places in Japan. You are required to be naked, and dont bother bringing books. You will see lines of shower-stations where you sit and shower, using your own or the provided amenities. After an initial wash, feel free to use the hot or cold bath, or the sauna, before washing again. This routine can be repeated. Bring a small washing cloth and soak in cold water before entering the warm water.

Neighborhood
Located near Osaka Castle Park, ‘Tani-yon’ or ‘Tani4’ is first and foremost a business-neighborhood. As such, you will find MANY restaurants when heading north on Tanimachi-suji street running North/south just by the hotel. Go North and you will find many restaurants in many levels. Don’t bother with reviews - look at the menus and try something. Some places are more like small bars serving beer and food. I was never disappointed. For shopping take the subway to Namba or Umeda. Don't bother with the smaller City Mall near Tenmabashi-station. Be sure to visit the Osaka Castle Park. I did not try the castle, but the view of it and the inner courtyard is a nice place.

Subway
I commuted using the Chuo-line which runs West-East through the city. In addition, the Tannimachi-line runs North-South. Both connects to all major lines giving you the ability to go to pretty much any Osaka Subway station within 15 min travel. With very frequent trains. expect a max of 30 min. travel time to any station. A good pick.

The rooms are small, but comfy.
The bed is firm but comfy.
There is only one pillow, most places usually have two.
The room smelt of stale smoke, which is a shame.
But it was cheap and value for money, and i wasnt there often, so I guess that makes it ok.
WOuldnt be suitable if you are travelling with a large suitcase... a pack, carry on case are fine otherwise.

This hotel is very simple and perfectly suited for a visitor who will be spending most of their time outside the room ;-) That said, our room on the 15th floor is very reasonably sized. There is 2 of us in the room. 2 twin beds, plenty of closet space well equipped bathroom. Huge bonus to me is an "onsen" right here at the hotel. What a luxury is to come home after a long day of wondering ,and sync into a fabulous bath. Washing carefully BEFORE you enter the water is the most important part ! Copious and varied breakfast will get you ready for the day. and if your body is telling you, that it needs a little love ;-) SPA at the hotel offers massage. Hotel has laundromat - Y400 for both wash/dry. WiFi service offered provides a perfect stable connection making it easy to work or stay in touch in general.
I would like to say a special thank s to the staff, very few of them actually SPEAK English, but everyone is VERY eager to help. With humor and patience one can get all done and enjoy the adventure while doing it,

This location is right next to the subway station. This is the biggest selling point. As for the room, it is very small. I could barely put my luggage in and the bathroom is only standing room. However, the front desk staff were extremely helpful. That made my stay very pleasant. I was sweating profusely at 30+ temperature and the reservation staff handed me a towel without even my asking. That is hospitality. Arigatou.

There are many eateries around the hotel. You will not be hungry....ever!!

It's clean and well located by the subway station. But the rooms that are advertised as doubles are too small for two people. Luckily we are not large people and don't really wig out about the small stuff. I would not recommend for couples that are used to Western style hotels. I don't plan on spending time here except to sleep...so it'll work for this trip.

If you've been in a business hotel in urban Japan, you'll know to expect small rooms, and this is no exception. That said, everything else about this hotel was wonderful, and I would most definitely consider staying here again.

APA apparently stands for Always Pleasant Amenities, and they weren't joking.

The sento baths in the basement were large and immaculate. My wife was nervous about her first experience in a public bath, but after the first night, she became an addict, making a point to take a soak at the end of every night. The baths stay open until 1am, so this was easy to do, and they were a great way to unwind after a day of seeing the town.

The all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet was absolutely delicious. For 1050 yen a pop, it was well worth it. The fare includes western stuff like toast, eggs, salad and sausage, but I routinely gorged on the fried octopus (takoyaki), mackerel, natto-covered rice, lychees, seaweed salad, kinpira, curry, and house-made tofu. Whatever your tastes, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

We also appreciated the laundry. Be warned that it can the machines can get crowded at night, particularly on Sunday night. There were only two washer-dryer pairs in the men's bath, and one in the women's. Try to launder earlier rather than later, perhaps even while you eat your breakfast.

The place is in a prime location if you're a jogger, since Osaka Castle is a 10 minute walk away. I'm not a huge fan of the castle itself, but its grounds are wonderful to do your morning jog around, and you can enter for free.

We stayed here for 5 nights, to use as our base for exploring the Kansai region (Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Himeji, Mt. Koya). All these trips left from Osaka station or Shin-Osaka station. From the hotel, you can get to these stations in 15-20 minutes, which isn't bad.

Note that this is a review for the APA Villa Hotel, not the APA Hotel 4 blocks away. From what I've read, it seems like the Villa gets better reviews on average, so one shouldn't get them confused, even if they're run by the same chain.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and would stay there again.

I once stayed in an APA hotel in Roppongi and I could testify that their double bed room barely fits two persons. You will be literally rubbing elbows and knees when you try to walk around. I wonder if this is the definition of a standard Japanese budget hotel room which is by the way not so budget friendly because our 3 nights stay cost us around 45600 yen (15200 yen/137 usd per night including breakfast). I remember when I stayed in APA roppongi it cost me far less maybe because its golden week. Most hotels are already fully booked and this is the cheapest i could find and should have tried the cheaper airbnb option.
They only serve bottled water starting on your second day but there are nearby conbini and vendo machine or the potable faucet water as they suggest.
The bathroom stinks of urine and there was no deodorizer feels like the urine dried on the wooden bathroom floor.
They will give you free ready made curry souvenir original recipe by the owner per stay. I think she likes curry and wants to advocate her original recipe :)
The location is in front of the subway station and walking distance to osaka castle and they have radium spa/onsen.
The breakfast buffet choices is always the same every morning.

Stayed at the APA tanimachi 4 during new year holiday as the rate offered was very attractive. Room was small but this's normal for Japan hotels. I had no problem opening my 28" luggage. Mattress was firm. Had a good eight hours sleep. Hotel had a public bath which was also good to relax your muscles after long walk.

There's a subway entrance in front of the hotel. You need to change train going to Namba or Umeda. Overall my stay was satisfactory.

First and foremost, hotels in Japan are generally extremely, extremely tiny. The population density is incredibly high so don't expect hotels to have spacious rooms. That said, our semi-double room had very little luggage space. We had to open our suitcases on the bed whenever we needed anything. Not a very comfortable bed to share between two grown adults either. Only advantage of staying here was that the subway was literally just steps away and we could walk to Osaka Castle. Although not terrible, this is quite an expensive hotel considering the quality of the stay.
