I have stayed about 25 times. For about 20 years l travelled, mainly in East Asia and the USA, with expenses paid. Now I pay my own bills l continue to stay in the New Otani although I can't afford to eat in the hotel, because the room price is very reasonable and very few hotels anywhere, even at three times the price, can match the standard of service.

An old hotel that still uses keys (yes...real keys, not cards). Room is not in modern standards e.g. small TV from the 90s, no USB sockets, not efficient work place environment etc. If you come for business or expect 5 star quality, it's not the place for you. In addition, if you have a tatoo you are not welcome and you are banned from the fitness facility...realy...

The hotel is well-located near Osaka-Jo and the park is great for morning run or walk. It’s not central so taxi or train is necessary (but easy). Hotel is quite dated, but very good Japanese standards. Apparently a great fitness suite and pool - unfortunately the rule with regards to no tattoo means I couldn’t use these facility. In this day and age, where the hotel relies on tourism it seems unacceptable to maintain such bizarre and unfriendly rules. I can’t come back or recommend this hotel as I am unable to fully use facilities they offer. It’s a shame.

I’m a business traveler who’s had the fortune of staying at some of the more upscale hotels in the world. The New Otani in Osaka clearly caters to business travelers, so I began retroactively kicking myself for choosing it as our Osaka lodging for my and my wife’s honeymoon since it was clear that on days where there aren’t business conferences being conducted, it’s dead. That said, these supposed downsides become an upside. There are so many staff to cater to every whim, and so so with a smile. I basically had to bribe the bellhop woman not to carry our heavy bags, she was so eager to please. The rooms are dated but gigantic. It’s not near Osaka nightlife, but the metro ride isn’t too bad. Plus, Osaka castle is amazing. I initially regretted booking here when I checked in, and realized the location (aka not close to Dotonbori). The friendliness of the staff utterly changed my opinion. As friendly as any Four Seasons. Kudos to the manager and staff of this establishment. PS: there’s a FamilyMart across the street with incredible FamilyMart food.

What drew me to this hotel was the location. The nearness to the river, the Osaka Castle, and myriad eating and shopping options make this hotel ideal. It features multiple restaurants, stores on the ground floor, a workout and pool area, and other amenities. The staff were very friendly and helpful and I had everything I needed. There is a JR train line just five minute walk away.
