I’m a business traveler who’s had the fortune of staying at some of the more upscale hotels in the world.

The New Otani in Osaka clearly caters to business travelers, so I began retroactively kicking myself for choosing it as our Osaka lodging for my and my wife’s honeymoon since it was clear that on days where there aren’t business conferences being conducted, it’s dead.

That said, these supposed downsides become an upside. There are so many staff to cater to every whim, and so so with a smile. I basically had to bribe the bellhop woman not to carry our heavy bags, she was so eager to please.

The rooms are dated but gigantic. It’s not near Osaka nightlife, but the metro ride isn’t too bad. Plus, Osaka castle is amazing.

I initially regretted booking here when I checked in, and realized the location (aka not close to Dotonbori). The friendliness of the staff utterly changed my opinion. As friendly as any Four Seasons.

Kudos to the manager and staff of this establishment.

PS: there’s a FamilyMart across the street with incredible FamilyMart food.

an absolutely stunning hotel located nearby Osaka castle, which you can actually see from some of the rooms. The only reason why I’m not giving in five stars is because it is located in an area where there are not too many good restaurants. Most of the restaurants are in the New Otani premises, but they don’t really have any priority from people staying there, so I was unable to get seating at any of the restaurants in the hotel, which, of course was uncomfortable for my one night stay. the rooms are very elegant. Everything is pristine the bathroom has toiletries, everything impeccable, and they have complementary water, coffee, and tea. The view to the Osaka castle is breathtaking and honestly it is as good as it gets from accommodation perspective. Very happy with my stay.

I have stayed about 25 times. For about 20 years l travelled, mainly in East Asia and the USA, with expenses paid. Now I pay my own bills l continue to stay in the New Otani although I can't afford to eat in the hotel, because the room price is very reasonable and very few hotels anywhere, even at three times the price, can match the standard of service.

If nothing else, the view would have made our room worth it. We watched the sunset over Osaka Castle and the park, and it was glorious.

But in addition, the bed was incredibly comfortable, the bathtub was lovely, the room was luxurious, and the staff was extraordinarily attentive. They helped us get around Osaka.

The hotel also has a cheap shuttle that picks up from it and two other hotels to go to Shin-Osaka station, which saves a lot of time and worry, and was a true lifesaver.

The location is good—it's an easy walk into the castle park, and the subway connects to the rest of Osaka. Our location couldn't be beat with the views we had of Osaka throughout.

The lobby is glorious and beautiful and includes incredible dessert shops and restaurants. It's fancy, but we were never made to feel out of place, even when we first appeared, sweaty and tired.

We stored our baggage with them on the 2nd day so we could explore before our train out of the city, and when we picked it up I had realized I had lost my Suica card. We inquired, and they not only had it, but had also carefully packed up all our half-full toiletries, which we'd left on purpose—while we didn't need them, that's the vibe of this hotel, it's detail-oriented and they're incredibly invested in taking care of their guests.

This hotel could be an amazing place to stay, thanks to both large and comfortable rooms and a beautiful view on Osaka castle.
Unfortunately it is clear that the hotel prefers to focus on events (fair, weddings) than on their guests. The poor experience started with the check-in: the process took 30 minutes as more than 40 people were queuing in front of me; this is something I never experienced anywhere. I had 1 hour before my meeting so wanted to enjoy the pool: I was told that a charge of 3800 yen would be required; don’t advertise you have a pool if you charge such a ridiculous amount to use it (this was a key reason for me to select that hotel). Finally, the breakfast was nice, with a good mix of Japanese and western food… but it costed 4800 yen (more than a high-end lunch) and there wasn’t any bread available, only toasts…

The best hotel during my 12 nights stay in Japan. The service is impeccable! Check in was fast and was immediately shown to our rooms by the reception staff. The location is good especially those who wants to visit Osaka Castle where you can have the day and night scenes as it is just across the hotel. There is also a bus shuttle service to Shin Osaka station though not frequent and also bus direct to Kyoto from the hotel. The vast expanse around the area makes your stay wonderful and calm. Plenty of restaurants in the hotel for you to choose though the prices are on the high side given the high end environment. Going to the city centre like Dotonbori is relatively easy as the metro station is only a few minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel interior was clean and retro in design which is different from modern designs which most hotels offer. Strongly recommend to stay here!

Stayed 2 nights with family and, overall, impressed with this "grand old lady" hotel. The lobby is impressive and the rooms well appointed and comfortable, especially those with Castle views adding that bit extra. Breakfast has Western or Japanese choices and is extremely good.

The staff generally were lovely and kind and you get the impression they have all worked at this hotel for a considerable time, taking pride in their work.

We booked with the hotel directly and received a couple of lovely little extras, which was very much appreciated.

2 things to comment on for the future. We have 2 kids and were a little surprised to find that no under 18s were allowed in the pool, plus any guest wishing to use the pool had to pay am additional 37k Japanese yen, which seemed excessive.

Secondly, we had an a la carte dinner at the Satsuki restaurant (same place as breakfast is served)......after 10 minutes we had to ask for the menus, the main courses arrived before we had finished our appetisers (and one appetiser was missing), a main course was wrong.....everyone was kind and lovely but it felt like a buffet suited the staff better than a la carte. We had numerous apologies through the dinner for the various mistakes but a hotel of this overall standard needs to be better.

Would we return? Yes we would. We are sure that they can do better.

This is the second time we have stayed at the New Otani. The first was 17 years ago when we visited with 3 generations of our family - grandparents, parents and 3 children under the age of 7. We all enjoyed our stay and the staff was so kind to our children. I was worried that I was expecting too much as our first visit was amazing. This time, we arrived with our 20+ year old children. Happy to say, the New Otani lived up to my expectations! The location right by Osaka Castle is wonderful - feels like you are in a quiet oasis. Close to numerous subway lines. Breakfast is fantastic. The view of Osaka Castle from our rooms was spectacular. The service of the staff was excellent. The concierge went above and beyond to help answer our questions and requests. Will always stay here when we are in Osaka! Hope it is not another 17 years.

We stopped in the garden tower and had breakfast on the 40th floor and the garden restaurant with stunning views.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants within a 10 minute walk of the hotel which is just as well as the multitude of restaurants in the hotel were extremely expensive.
Staff were courteous and the bedroom was a decent size.
Lovely hotel.

The hotel is slightly pretentious, which gives it a "has-been" air, and the rooms reflect the years that have passed since its prime.
Still, it is comfortable, with very large rooms, and we had a wonderful view to the Osaka Castle.
The breakfast is very good and full of options, both for the western and the eastern palates.
The front desk personnel were correct but a bit pretentious and dismissive.
The hotel is very close to the metro, to the Castle and its park, and to a very pleasant outdoor food area.

Are ther sun loungers around the outdoor swimming pool?
Answer from Osaka_Castle_View
Osaka Prefecture, Japan
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately our outdoor pool is opened summer season (early July to early September) only. There are sun loungers but now outdoor pool is closed.

Unfortunately we don't have a direct limousine bus. We have a pick-up service from Kansai International Airport to Hotel, and the charge is JPY18,000 for a Jumbo taxi that can carry 7 people (or 5-6 people with large luggage). To arrange this pick-up service, we must ask for a credit card guarantee and the flight details. If you would like to book this service, please contact us directly.
