ENJOY SEEING OSAKA BY BICYCLE! Chari is the street name for “bicycle” in Japanese. It’s an endearing street name. It’s what you’d call that old bike you hop on to meet a friend for a drink in town. At CharinCo Hostel, we’re all about seeing Osaka as a local would. The city has a convenient train system -- Dotonburi, Tsutenkaku Tower, Osaka Castle, and many landmarks are all accessible via public transport. But we believe slow traveling through the city on two wheels is the best way to take in all the sights, sounds, and flavors of Japan's food capital. We have bunks, traditional Japanese tatami rooms, two chic lounges (serving ice cold beer), and, of course, bicycles for rent. Our incredibly friendly staff knows a thing or two about Osaka and are happy to point you to a good time around town. But they also understand that the adventure is where your Chari takes you. CharinCo is located right in the middle of the action. We’re just 20 minutes by from Osaka Station, and a mere 10-minute’s walk from Osaka Castle. And the rest of Osaka can be reached within 30 minutes away by bike.

This is a great little hostel with free bike hire, which saved us loads of money! The little pod beds are great and spacious. The facilities (including the little lounge) and kitchen are great for eating / making food to save you from spending lots. The staff had helpful suggestions and were extremely friendly to us throughout our stay! Thank you!

The staff have been super helpful. The hostel is clean friendly and sociable. Free breakfast is included. Would definitely recommend to travellers on a budget. Free bike hire is amazing - we managed to see the whole city cycling.

I got myself a single room as I needed some time and space for myself before a long flight back to my home country. The room was basic; with a very comfortable double bed and a table. But honesty what else does one need anyway? I also liked that the room has a window that allowed me access to the balcony. It is nice just sitting out there and enjoying the good weather. It so happens that I was the only one on the floor, so I had a lot of privacy for me to recharge.
The staff was nice and the coffee in the morning was exceptionally good. Some people might not be pleased that breakfast was 2 big pieces of toast but to me that was good enough. Ability to hire bikes was good too, though I did not use the service. Very close to Osaka Castle and walking distance to 3 different train lines which can get you anywhere.

This hostel is the highest quality I've visited! I visited here one night. When I visited here, the friendly and polite stuff welcomed me and showed me around the hostel. As all of the facilities was clean, I was satisfied to come here. There is a nice lounge in 6 floor installed the balcony. It's wide and open space. It made me relax and feel as if I'm in resort.
About the room, I stayed in the dormitory. But as the every bed was separated, I felt private space and relaxed.
If you want to drink something in the night, there is a bar in the first floor. I tried it! As I sit in the seat, the friendly stuff talked to me and leaded the conversation. So I could join the conversation easily!!
If someone ask me about hostel, this hotel 'll come to mind soon, for sure!!

Stayed here for some of our first nights in Japan back in December 2018. Staff spoke good English, and were very helpful when we asked questions.
We stayed in an all-female dorm which had a wonderful solution of beds separated with wooden walls and a drop down curtain for privacy - it was like your own tiny little room with enough space to put your valuables next to you when sleeping. The mattresses were a little hard, but I think this was more of a cultural thing.
The hostel also offers free bike rentals, so me and my friend had fun biking in the park close to the Osaka castle.

My partner and I stopped over for one night at this hostel. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly, the beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. There is free bike rental which we didn’t get to use because it was raining. If I come back to Osaka, I would choose CharinCo again!

First of all, the staff were WONDERFUL, so this review isn’t a reflection of them in any way. It’s also worth noting that the facilities were clean and well-kept, so no complaints there either. The one thing that completely ruined my experience at this hostel was the design of the beds. I’ve stayed at other bunk/capsule style hostels and actually prefer them to open style hostel rooms. But these beds are poorly constructed, made with cheap plywood and the top bunks aren’t fully enclosed. The result is that there is absolutely zero sound insulation. I have no idea what the people in the bunks next to me were doing, but it sounded like a constant mix of plugging/unplugging devices in sockets, fumbling around to find said sockets, and dragging the cords/devices along the floor of the bunks. I stayed for 5 days and have never encountered such inconsiderate guests. The bunks are spacious enough that it has the unintended effect of people bringing a ton of stuff with them into the bed and you can hear them sitting through their purchases of the day well into the night. People seem to think that these bunks are their own personal hotel rooms and treat them as such with complete disregard for everyone else around them. Even sleeping with earphones or earplugs, I was constantly woken up by someone banging into the walls of my bunk. I think improving the sound insulation of the bunks and making the common areas more obvious & inviting (to keep people who aren’t sleeping from staying in the rooms and making a bunch of noise) would greatly improve the experience at this hostel.

This is a lovely hostel with really nice staff who made a great effort, the bike lending was a great extra feature! However, it is not how it appears as it is advertised. There was very little going on so not ideal for people who want to meet people and hang out. The beds are very thin and uncomfortable and there are a lot of rules that prevent people from hanging out and having a good time. Saying this, we had a nice time but were patronised on the way out being accused of something we didn’t do. Anyway, wouldn’t recommend for a group but would recommend it’s great location for touristy day and lovely staff.
