My wife and I had a lovely 5 nights here in January. The rooms are Japanese style which we like. The daily servicing was good. The rooms are fairly modest in size but well organised and comfortable. The front desk team were very helpful. The location is superb with lots and lots to do in the locality. The communal bath in the basement was great and kept spotless. We'd stay again.

Stayed here for one night in Osaka to experience a Japanese style traditional room. Booked a room with breakfast in the new wing of the hotel with a view of the canal. Breakfast was Japanese style and fantastic. Hotel close to Dotonburi and restaurants and shops. After coming back in the evening, our room was ready for sleeping with the futons already made. Would stay again next time in Osaka.

The situation of this hotel is perfect for downtown Osaka. A couple of minutes walk from hotels and bars.I travelled by myself and was disappointed that the dinner that they can serve in the room is only for 2 people plus. When I booked the room it had stated that it was a size for 4 people plus - it was really the perfect size just for me. Ask for the Japanese breakfast and book a room facing the so called "river" - it is quieter.

The photographs are a lie.
The first thing that hits you is the grubby filthy carpet in the lift lobby that smells of fat and oil coming from the kitchen that is next to the lift lobby. Its like it’s never been cleaned for years. It’s a terrible introduction to guests.
I would expect and never been been disappointed by Japanese civil life, hotels and ryokans cleanliness. This accommodation is an exception.
Having said that the rooms are clean and decent although still on the grubby side.
You never know what your going to get travelling and at the end of three weeks in Japan we end up here disappointed with our first time in Osaka by this establishment.
I’m only giving it two stars rather than none because the room cleaning staff do a great job replacing and refreshing everyday and the public bath is well maintained. We stayed here pre-booked before we l left Australia for 5 nights. So couldn’t leave after having paid in advance.
Never again.

This hotel was terrible. It stank when you walked in like chlorine. The room was ok it was an authentic tatami. As for the bathroom it was really old and dirty. Location is good though. Not worth the price if you ask me!

DO NOT STAY at this hotel! We made a reservation at this hotel about 2 months in advance, and we also confirmed our stay by e-mail (as requested). We arrived at the hotel at around 11 o'clock in the morning, and the staff told us that they could not check-us in before 15:00. We left our baggage at the hotel, and we returned to the hotel at around 16:00. When we tried to check-in, one of the staff members told us that they had just given our room to somebody else! She said that she was very sorry but that they had to give our room to somebody else because a larger than expected group had just come before us?! I asked her what was the point of having a reservation if they had a first-come first-served policy. She said that she was very very sorry?! :) After arguing for some time, they told us that they would pay for our room in a three star hotel next door. At the end, as it was around 17:00 and as it was raining outside, we did not have any choice but to go to that different hotel. All in all, we did not manage to stay at a ryokan, which was our desire in the first place.

We reserved a room here over two months in advance for two nights. I received multiple confirmations from the hotel and was asked numerous times as to when we would be arriving. The last email we received was a 'looking forward to your visit' email. When we checked in they told us that they were doing 'construction' and that they could only accomodate us one night and they would move us to another hotel that was comparable. We were not happy about moving as we were only going to be there two nights. We spoke with another person from the hotel who told us they were overbooked. Regardless the 'comparable' hotel was a DUMP! They put us up in a hotel down the street which had an in room toilet - a squat toilet, and a sink that did not give us hot water. It was basically a roach hotel, it was not nice at all. We had been traveling in Japan for over two weeks and this was THE worst experience we had in Japan. I would be careful if you decide to stay here - Osaka books up fast for hotels so if you book at the Yamatoya Honten and they move you to a dump like we got stuck in, you might not have any other choice. I was really disappointed in the way we were treated, and will not ever stay here again. I would not trust them, just be careful if you book this hotel - you never know....

The rooms are fine, location is good. But everything else was terribly unorganised.

i booked 4 nights of the most expensive room 6 months (200 aud) in advance. and when i went there to check in, they told me that they were 'overbooked' and sent me to a hotel 2 minutes away and i had to come back for the next 3 nights and that they would cover all the cost for it. we had no choice anyway so we went. the 'hotel 2 minutes away' was more like a motel, and was definitely not worth the 200aud i paid for in yamatoyahonten.
So we had to check out and check in twice, and the 2 of us had 6 luggages to carry. NOT HAPPY.

then we ordered dinner one night and was told that it started at 7.30pm and would be served in the room. We waited in our room till 7.45pm and nobody showed up. Turned out that we had to call the reception and ask for a room number, then go to that room for dinner to be served. Did anybody tell us that? were there any signs or information anywhere informing us? NO!

having 6 luggages, we wanted to send our luggage to the next stop in Tokyo through their local Takyubbin service. They did not want to have anything to do with it and asked us to go to a nearby 7eleven by ourselves and get it done there. So we had to go there 3 times with all our luggages because we didn't fill in the form right the first time and couldn't carry that many luggages the second time.

Lastly, we left something behind in that hotel after we had left osaka. i called them the next day to get it sent to our address in australia, and gave them credit card details and everything. the guy said he would send it. 2 weeks later, i have not received anything, I called again and they said that they didn't know anything about it and that the package was still there. This is just highly unprofessional and unorganised. They still did not send it to me the second time i called from Australia. I had to get my friend's Japanese teacher too call them 4 times before they finally sent it.

This is not what i have signed up for after paying 200 aud dollars per night. They are so busy yet unorganised you might as well go and support some other local and smaller ryokan that will serve you will their hearts.

We really enjoyed this hotel, we stayed for a couple of nights. We are planning to stay here on our next trip to Osaka in the spring. The staff were really nice, a lot of fun, and they took care of us.

It is traditional ryokan room with tatami mats and futons. The futons and pillows were really comfortable, and we slept really well. The room we had was huge with a main room, a long entryway, and a small sitting room near the bathroom. I don't know if all the rooms are the same size. The only downside was that the air conditioner was too small for the room, and took forever to cool down the place.

It is located at the end of the shopping area in Osaka. It is really easy to find anything you want from this location. The Nihongobashi tube stop is nearby. The Namba train station is about 10 minutes away, and the trains from the Namba station can take you directly into the airport, while the Nihonbashi you have to change once..

There is a public bath in the basment that is nice, and it is open pretty late, till 1 am I think.

Another note, this place seems popular with the locals on the weekend, and on the Saturday we were there it was booked solid.

So I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking for a ryokan in Osaka

Near the shopping area Dotombori, and some lovely narrow streets with cafes, bars and small shops. The ryokan is beside a bridge and a busy street.

The main room of our suite has tatami mats, a low table and lots of cushions, a TV and a vase in the sacred alcove. Sunlight from the window is diffused by the white paper screen. No chairs on the soft mat flooring. After dinner, the hotel staff laid out a futon for 2 on the floor mats.

In the side room are two low chairs and a side table and an big cupboard for bags. The ensuite has a deep Japanese bath and the usual high tech toilet.

On level 1 are separate communal baths for men and women - spacious and hot, and thankfully not busy.

Breakfast is remarkable. In a traditional Japanese dining room. We sat on floor cushions at a low table, and were each served a tray of 14 small dishes, including 3 small fish to cook over a brazier, a raw egg, miso, rice, shrimp tofu, dipping sauces and lots of types of pickles. Two other tables were occupied by a Japanese family and a group of Japanese men, perhaps business travellers, wearing yukata robes, kneeling low in a way we can only envy, and gossiping over sake and breakfast.

This was our first taste of Japanese hospitality, and we loved it. Paula and Roger

Debbie, my family stayed in a quadruple room. If you book it, it would be just for you as it is a hotel not a hostel. We slept on futons in one room that was then the living room during the day. Plus our own private facilities. We loved our 3 nights here - a great location as it was an easy walk ( or cab ride) from the train station and only a few minutes walk from all the food and entertainment you could ask for.
