For the price, this hotel is great. It's two blocks from the manga museum and one metro stop from the castle. Plenty of restaurants and convenience stores (7-11 and Lawsen)within a few blocks. The metro station is just around the corner. Quiet hotel with a...More
Excellent location in general, a couple of stops away from Kyoto station.
Rooms are clean, tidy and relatively spacious for Japanese standards. Staff are kind and helpful and seem to all wear traditional dress which is a nice touch.

The staffs were amazing and we received true Japanese hospitality. Good location and it’s a clean and a cozy place! We stayed two nights there and this is one of the best place we stayed out of 5 hotels in our holiday
Good location, close to Karasuma-Oike metro station and within walking distance from Nishiki Market. Standard rooms for Japan, clean, good quality bathing products. Helpful staff, they made a few calls for us in order to check availability and reserve seats at a restaurant. Supermarkets in...More

No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of
local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

I bought JR Wide Pass & ICOCA Card - JR Wide pass for JR Haruka Limited from Kansai Airport all the way to Kyoto Station. From Kyoto Station, I used ICOCA Card to Karasuma Oike Station.
Not too sure about Kansai thru pass

It is higly unlikely that they would allow early check-in. They really like to stick to their strict protocols when it suits them. Don't get me wrong though - there are lots of nice staff members there too - but read my review to get a good idea of the place and the attitudes.
They are not very understanding - unless you invent a sob-story or a medical condition that requires the necessity of an early room.
It is likely they will insist that you store your luggage and go for a walk.
