This began disastrously with crossed wires in my head as to what I'd booked. However, after seeing the hotel in daylight, meeting the owners Phil & Wathsala properly and appreciating the beauty of the place it was clearly providence that led us here. There are 9 rooms; 5 in the main house and 4 in the grounds. We stayed in...

Here we have an owner who really knows what he's doing! Beautiful place, great(!!!) food, nice staff and lovely rooms. Really loved this place! The only "negative" thing was that our room only had a fan, no AC, but since everything else was perfect I give this place 5/5!

We'd travelled to Sri Lanka on our honeymoon and we had managed to book a few five star hotels on our trip as a treat. I'm happy to say that we enjoyed the SPice House as much if not more than their more expensive contemporaries. Its a beautiful hotel tucked away just on the edge of town and when you...

Every inch of the Spice House has been lovingly thought out and executed by Phil and Wathsala - and it certainly shows! We loved our time at The Spice House after a hectic 10-day tour. We really appreciated that it was a little outside town (15min walk or a 5min tuk-tuk to Mirissa Beach) as it meant that it was...

Absolutely loved our five night stay in the Mud House at Spice House. Pool area is absolute five star, hosts and staff are friendly and attentive to any requirements. Special thanks to older male waiter who was especially helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed evening meals on rear balcony and sharing meal with other guests. Only improvement would be to suggest air-con in...

Spent four nights here and loved every minute of it. Lovely room, beautifully landscaped property, excellent food in bounteous quantities, smiling friendly staff. Phil and Wathsala were excellent hosts. Very much enjoyed the communal evening meals where one had a chance to talk with other travellers or discuss Arsenal's progress with Phil. Wathsala even took my wife along to her...

Couldn’t really ask for any more than the title suggests really, so sorry for the length of the review, but it’s too good to leave just a couple of words. One of the best guest house options I have experienced. Location – Guest House is at the eastern end of Mirissa and up a quiet drive so it is away...

The Spice House is perfect. Secluded house with a relaxed atmosphere and fabulous staff. We felt very well looked after by Phil, Wathsala and the amazing team there. We stayed in 2 different rooms and whilst both were gorgeous, Peacock room is stunning and at the bottom of the garden! Breakfast of Cinammon pancakes, fruit, eggs and tea and coffee...

Many thanks for taking the time to write such a nice review for us. Sorry to hear that you struggled to get a good nights sleep in the Peacock room. We are currently considering putting AC in to some of our rooms, most of them in the main house have been designed in the traditional Sri Lankan way with high...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Spice House, Mirissa is a beautiful Colonial style guesthouse with its own private swimming pool set in a peaceful, landscaped garden full of tropical flowers, fruits, spices, ponds & hammocks. It is ideally situated only one minute from a beautiful, reef protected bay & 1km from the main bustle of Mirissa beach. The guesthouse is English owned by an experienced traveller and his Sri Lankan Wife which allows us to offer our guests the perfect mix of Western comfort & luxury alongside Sri Lankan charm & service - we like our guests to feel like part of the family. The house is shaded by coconut palms & cinnamon trees to the front while the back is terraced which allows wonderful views over the surrounding jungle. Local wildlife is often seen in our garden with daily visits from monkeys, kingfishers, peacocks, woodpeckers & squirrels. We can also help with Airport transfers & booking whale watching trips during the season (November - April). ... more   less
