A real relaxing break. 3 days of exploring, croc spotting with their hire boats and relaxing by the pool. Highly recommend a visit to relaxing and unwind. The staff go above and beyond and the restaurant offers an excellent choice of meals.

Mary River wilderness retreat was an incredible holiday destination. All the staff were extremely helpful. Mark, Scott, Penny, Mark 2. The rooms very clean, beds comfy, well stocked and excellent aircon. The lovely walks and use of the golf carts to explore further afield were a lovely bonus. Camp kitchen was kept spotless and was well equipped with everything needed to self cater. Amazing grounds and surrounds, with lawns impeccably mowed, the gardens well maintained which encouraged a plethora of bird life and wallabies. Highly recommend this oasis not too far from Darwin and easy drive to Kakadu national park. Will definately be returning, next time to experience the retreat during the wet season.

We had to cancel our booking at Mary River Wilderness Retreat more than two months out from the booked date. At the time of cancellation we were told that the $100.00 deposit would be refunded if the room was rebooked. This information was not upfront, just stated when I questioned the excessiveness of this cancellation policy. Closer to the booked date, I noted that the accommodation we had booked was no longer available (our room had been rebooked) but I heard nothing from Mary River Wilderness Retreat. I phoned early on a Saturday morning to be told that there was no accommodation of our type available so I asked why our deposit had not been refunded. To be given an answer that it had just been rebooked that morning, was simply not acceptable and most possibly not true. I don't believe we would have ever have received the refund if I had not pursued it. From our experience with this accommodation provider we would not recommend anyone having to deal with them if you have to pre book and for some unforeseen reason, need to cancel.

The park itself was very neat and tidy but there wasn't much to do at Mary River Retreat. Booked 2 bush bungalows and was looking forward to coming here. Greeted by friendly staff and our bungalows were clean and tidy but very very basic, which is fine but there was only a kettle and 3 cups with tea and coffee, no microwave for heating food etc, no tv or wifi which is a bit testing when you have 2 kids in tow and not much to do at the park. We were running on a time schedule before we left Darwin to get to out appointed time to a jumping croc show so hence we didn't get extra food or anything as it said on the website that it had a restaurant and shop. Disheartening, we heard the chef had left and at the shop there was was only ice cream, crisps and 2 minute noodles. Couldn't cook the noodles in our bungalows as there was no bowls, forks or microwave! My kids did go and ask for a bowl and for from reception and we just pour boiling water over the noodles to cook! Their coffee machine was broken down so no coffee! Lucky for us that there was Bark Hut Roadhouse which was about 3kms away so had dinner there one night and morning tea the next day. We did do the pizza night and it was ok to make your own pizza, nothing out of this world but at least it's a meal Tip, prepare to bring some snacks or food of some type if you're staying in bungalows otherwise there's nothing else food wise! Beds weren't very comfortable and when my husband sat on the queen bed it creaked as if it was going to give way! Luckily we hired a boat for the next day to go fishing on the river which we enjoyed and also the pool which was nice to cool ourselves off. The park was quite empty due to the Covid lockdown the day before so it was quiet the first night but the second night a wedding party arrived and stayed at the poolside villas which was behind us and they had the music cranked up from the afternoon till 10pm, which was fine as they did turn it off about 10pm but thought the policy read 'NO PARTY POLICY'??? Went for a drive around to see if there was any activities for us to do but to our disappointment- nothing! So if you like to do nothing but lounge around, this is the place for you!
