The thatched cottages are gorgeous. The views and location are top notch. I thought I was prepared for the lack of connectivity but I found lack of WiFi quite difficult! We had one stormy night which sounded hairy but we were safe and sound inside. No shops within short driving distance. I won’t get over the tiny roads in a hurry. Electricity is charged separately at the end of your trip which I thought was weird in this day and age.

myself, my wife and 2 young children just stayed at the cottages. we were incredibly lucky with the weather which meant our stay was incredibly fun. peat fires, playing cards, playing on the beach, walks etc were idyllic. the cottages are basic but have everything you need in terms of cooking etc. they were warm enough and big enough for the four of us.

Although I wasn't staying here, some friends were and we called in to have dinner and stay over with them. I was surprised at the basic level of furniture, the draughty nature of the buildings but most of all, the fact that these are NOT thatched cottages. Instead they have tin roofs with thatch stuck on to look as if they're genuinely thatched. Uncomfortable chairs and dodgy mattresses made it feel like something out of the 1970s. It's misleading to call these things thatched when that's that last thing they are. Some of the thatch was in poor repair, with the tin roof showing through very clearly. It's a real shame as the location is stunning, and the whole experience could be so much better. Thatched cottages in Scotland & England are not constructed like this - perhaps it's a Donegal thing?

My family and I stayed at the Thatched Cottages for four nights while visiting Dungloe for the Mary festival. As soon as we turned into the drive where the cottages are located, I could barely contain my excitement. They are serene and picturesque, everything you imagine Ireland to be. Conor the proprietor, greeted us and was incredibly friendly and thorough in explaining the ins and outs of the cottages themselves and the area. Our cottage had a remarkable of the Atlantic ocean, the sounds of which soothed us and put us to sleep every night. My family and I were fortunate enough to have weather that permitted swimming! I never imagined I'd swim on the opposite side of the Atlantic, but staying at the Cottages allowed us to do so. They are a perfect location to unwind and take in the natural beauty of Ireland.
