First time in the area. The dinning at the restaurant looks more like a club house style but they brought a kind of "Nouvelle Cuisine" with a lack of taste. The menu was very short, the Dorade with white stuff and green under the fish was completely tasteless. As for the dessert, they had only 3 items. If you want to try a place that you don't want to come back, this will be the place.
I stayed one night here. The room was nice, the bed was comfy, there is a big LCD tv, nice bathroom. The view from the room was nice to the fields. The breakfast was alright. We ate at the restaurant and it was great. The lounge is nice, with a big deck to enjoy. The problem: they ran out of door keys and the receptionist asked me to go to my room to open the door. luckily a friend offered his for me.
Let's start with the regular stuff... I guess this hotel is well situated, but of course only if you have to be in the area. The Ardeche region in France is not the center of a city :) But it's easily reachable and easy to get to. And the area around it is quite beautiful. The accommodations aren't the best; they are a little bit dated, but certainly not bad. Very clean, just not very modern. The bed could have been a little more comfortable, the shower / bath combination isn't really modern but being able to take a bath is a huge plus for me and the water was plentiful, warm enough and easy to regulate in terms of temperature. Where this place really deserves praise in my book is the service. We ate in the restaurant all four days we were there (social unrest in France at the time, bad weather and not that many restaurant options close by all made that the best choice) and while the restaurant is pricey, the service and the food were unbelievably good. And it wasn't just the restaurant staff... the bar men were of the same level and the people at breakfast and the front desk were very friendly as well. Suffice it to say that this is not always the case in France and that having exceptional service is something that stands out. In this case it did. I'll give one (small) example: the fourth evening we were eating there, the restaurant staff let us know that we had eaten too much there already and the regular menu didn't have enough options for us any more. So she got the chef to suggest something off menu for us, which we gracefully accepted and which was excellent. Just as bad staff can break a hotel, good staff can make it feel so much better. I'll come back here without hesitation.…
The hotel is rated 4 star but it is rather past its prime. The restaurant is ok but expensive and so is breakfast. Amenities somewhat tired and would need a facelift. Otherwise the surroundings are breathtaking and staff pleasant.
We stayed here for one night on our way back from a week in Provence. The hotel is set in lovely surroundings and the pool area was nice. We ate in the restaurant which was the most disappointing bit. Our waitress was very surly and unfriendly and the food was mediocre. My husband declared his starter to be the worst thing he’d ever eaten. Overall I would recommend this hotel as a stopover but eat elsewhere!
