Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We enjoyed our stay here, the rooms are spacious and clean, decor was quirky. The owners took care to feature different aspects of aboriginal culture with the room decor and decorative objects. The toiletries were organic and natural, which was a nice touch towards their commitment to being eco friendly. Don’t forget to say hello to the resident pet rabbit!

Positive aspects: - great to see an old building imaginatively refurbished & given a new life - free bikes which were well maintained & fitted with bells, lights & locks; close to cycle paths & easy riding into town (approx 3-4k) Negative aspects: - staff have insufficient language skills for English-speaking guests - lack of basic tourist information including local maps - we obtained copies for them from the excellent tourist information centre - ground floor rooms faced car park & lacked privacy blinds, which meant it meant that anyone passing had a great view! - the lift was made hideously noisy by announcements in Mandarin every time the door opened and closed - no phone in the room required guests to hunt down staff for the inevitable questions - power lights from the air conditioning unit & smoke alarm resulted in such a bright glow at night that sleep without eye masks impossible - mattress on the floor unacceptable in a so-called boutique hotel - breakfast basic, with no choice provided - family rooms attracted guests with (noisy) children

Very modern and stylish hotel! Refurbish from Hualien old port immigration centre!! Staff are super nice that even chase us to give lots of tourist information. super clean with very comfy bed and room! Very recommend everyone to stay

If you are looking for good interior design but do not want to break your bank account, it is a good choice. Leaf Inn is not something luxury but there are quite a lot of good taste art displays. Most (all?) rooms are uniquely designed.

Our stay was incredible, from the moment we arrived. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Most importantly, the room was gorgeous and clean. It has the easiest access to Taroko and Qingshui Cliffs. The rooms are full of art and beautifully decorated. The entire place is full of art and beauty. You would be remiss not to choose to stay here. If you do not drive a motorbike, taxis show up within a moment and speak perfect English. We've travelled around the world and this is hands down one of my most favorite places we've stayed.

It is an old abandoned port warehouse that has a new lease of life in Hualien. For a county with an eclectic range of accommodations, the leaf inn vibrates with young artistic energy. Rooms are basic but tastefully arranged with murals and furnishings that harks to its industrial past. Quiet place and a gem.

People come to Hualien for various reasons. A one simple connection to all these reasons are the soul searching for Taiwan’s unaltered culture and scenery. Often time, commercial guides or online materials can cost you a learning curve on where to stay. Renovated from an old barn house, the Inn has a genuine Taiwanese character that is always mixed a bit of Japanese or American flavour in architecture. The more than sleek interior should meet those most picky eyes and have been through top line Scandinavian designer furniture. It matches your fine taste with carefully selected and crafted items to take up the public space. Each room has their own designer and style. The reason I am surprisingly delightful to see is the unpresumptious simplicity - not excessively use bold antique items, not fake Eames rock chair but a comfortably arranged furniture to deliver a simple message - You are now safely in Hualien with heartfelt services of local people. Ironically, simplicity does not bring comfort all the time. Leaf Inn has a right mix. To me, this is substantial to imprint your trip in permanent memory section. Ask for nearby Sea food restaurant from front desk.

Overall, we had a great experience during our two night stay. The entire hotel has been renovated from an old building while still incorporating touches of the old into its style. Each bedroom is decorated uniquely from other bedrooms, and provides a great sense of homeliness. The bathrooms are very clean, spacious, and come with all the amenities you would need. Our room had both a bathtub and a standalone waterfall shower, Allowing you to be super comfortable while cleansing. Breakfast is served every morning, and is entirely up to what the chef chooses for that morning, but both of our mornings were delicious. Would definitely recommend to anybody looking to spend a few nights in Hualien!!

We came to Taiwan and did a small road trip from Taipei to Hualien. We stayed two nights at the Leaf Inn. It is a wonderful surprise to find such a cute little inn with 12 rooms in Hualien. It's a newly renovated hotel that opened earlier in 2016. Upon arrival, there is free parking in front and at the back of the hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included and consist of a nice portion of locally sourced ingredients. We had egg pancake and soy bean milk one day and a club sandwich with coffee and pumpkin soup the second morning. The rooms are large and nicely designed. The whole building is an old historical restored building, designed by local Taiwanese designers. Each room was designed by a different artist or designer hence has various themes and styles. The hotel design has retained much of the old character as well as a new modern touch to it. A lot of the old elements was reused or remade into new furniture or decorations around the Inn. There is a small lack of English translations in the Inn but some staff can speak and can explain it to the guests. We would highly recommend it to anyone traveling through Hualien.
