Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I never bothered writing a review for any accomodation. That's how good this place is.
Location was super convenient, I was visiting Taroko Gorge so I valued the proximity to the train/bus station. It's also quite near to the start of the town's main street.
The dorm room was nice, it had everything I needed and the bed was comfortable. In the common area there's free coffee/tea (24h) and toast in the morning.
The vibe of the place is remarkable, it's very relaxed and welcoming. They have a second-hand charity section and they also seem to be very eco-friendly, caring about recycling, etc.
The real stars of the show were the staff members. They made me feel welcome and they helped me with everything I needed. They gave me great tips on what to do and eat in Hualien, and we also shared great conversations! I am really thankful for their kindness.
I'm glad I chose this place, I'm definitely going back to Hualien in the future and I'll 100% choose this hostel again.

This was our first stay in Hualien and we enjoyed our time at the Bayhouse very much. The Lounge and entrance area are very welcoming and the recommendation books for restaurants and trips were very helpful to plan our stay. The room we had was big and the bed was very comfortable aswell, we even had a reading corner in our room. The staff at the hostel was especially nice and attentive, if there was any problem they would help us immediately. The facilities are good, tea, coffee, toast and jam are available for free and the washing machine is inexpensive too, although there is no dryer (you can hang the clothes outside though).

I stayed in this hostel as it's the first time I've seen a 5/5 rating on TA and it did not disappoint. The rooms are nice, spacious and beds are private and fitted with what you would need. There is a locker in the room. Only drawback is there is only one bathroom in the room between 6 women and well all over the world there are queues for women toilets but none for men...There is one other loo accessible though.

The vibe is so nice, you walk in and there is chilled music playing and most of us travelling around are frankly tired after a journey or a long day so it was very welcoming. They have nice touches like a scrapbook of recommendations from different travellers and slippers! There is a computer and laundry facilities.

The woman on the front desk was super nice, friendly, normal, easy to chat with, gave good recommendations. It's not manned 24 hours (nor when I arrived in the afternoon, luckily there were people in the common area to let me in and instructions on the desk re my bed etc). But it's not the best welcome to a hostel and if no one was in the common room, I probably would have had to wait around which isn't great.

The location is fine, its a 10 min walk from the train station but a bit far away from the main strip/busy parts of Hualien. In saying that there's some shops/restaurants not far away so it's not a quiet part of town per say. I would recommend this place and I would stay again.

It's about 10 mins walk from the train station, which makes it very easy to arrive or head to your next destination. Amenities wise, this has got to be the best dormitory I have stayed in Taiwan so far. Spacious room for 6, there is a place for table, and for large bags. Instead of a double decker bed, each bed is a built in feature so that the top occupant doesn't quite disturb the bottom occupant. Each bed comes with a privacy curtain, and has this small hole in the wall which includes international plug, and to store your small items when you sleep. Of course a lamp is included. What I like is the friendliness of the staff here. They make it feel that you are a Friend visiting and keen to have you again. I left quite hurriedly but I wished I could have stayed longer and have a chat with them. Definitely worth staying here again when I return back to Hualien!

The hostel is close to the train station. Only about a 5 minute walk. The rooms are nice and clean. The beds are also quite sturdy plus come with curtains and dedicated power outlets. The book with places to eat, things to do and tips for Taroko was very useful. The wifi was also very good. I would definitely recommend staying there.

My friend and I enjoyed our brief one night stay at Bayhouse. Kara was very friendly and gave us lots of tips about the area. The hostel is very clean, modern and friendly. Free breakfast of toast and tea and coffee is included. Having our own locker was great too. There’s even a guidebook with tips from other fellow travellers. We would definitely recommend anyone who is visiting Hualien/Taroko Gorge to stay at Bayhouse!
