Great experience, as echoed by many of the reviews on TripAdvisor. Stayed 2 nights in mid Jan 2016. Staff were friendly and provided many useful tips on touring the area. Breakfast was excellent with four types of fruits. Owner provided complimentary ride (in his personal car) to the train station at 5.45am coupled with packed breakfast. Owner provided free snacks (pineapple tarts, biscuits and nougats). Owner provided umbrellas for use during the day. Spacious and clean room, with good heating (the best heating in my 2 week Taiwan trip in Winter).

Pineapples tarts were delicious. Strongly recommended to buy them early, as they had run out by the time we made the decision to purchase.

The owner Mr Chen was prompt in replying to my pre-arrival queries via e-mails. Chose this B&B for the positive reviews as well as its proximity to the train station, about a 10-15 min walk. Turned out to be a great choice. Both Mr and Mrs Chen accorded us warm hospitality upon our arrival.

Room was spacious and clean. Wifi signal was strong. The breakfast was excellent. Home-made sandwich accompanied with a generous variety of fruits. Mr and Mrs Chen also recommended us an affable, trustworthy and young taxi driver, Xiao Qi, for our day tour of Taroko. Be sure to ask for Xiao Qi for your tours in Hualien.

On our day of departure, it was drizzling and we had a train to Taipei to catch. Mr Chen readily offered us a lift to the train station, which we were extremely grateful for. Thank you Mr and Mrs Chen for your kindness and hospitality, and the excellent breakfast! I couldn't have enough of it, yummy.

The room was large, comfortable and clean. Breakfast was truly great. Every afternoon upon coming home there was tea, coffee, home made cake and a chat. Truly nice and also helpful! The decorations are colourful childrens paintings which gives it a friendly air.

The room is really spacious and clean. The staff is really friendly and very suggestive in places to visit in Hualien. They customized the vegetarian breakfast. The B&B is at a very good location and near to Hualien Station. There is a Supermarket in front of B&B.

“We had an absolutely wonderful 4 day stay at the Little Squirrel B&B in Hualien, in large part due to the wonderful people who run it. They always took the time to greet us when we came in from a day of walking about and offer us tea or coffee and perhaps a small snack of some sort. We got lots of advice about where to have dinner, sights to see, etc. Since we are from the US and know only a few words of Mandarin it was very helpful that the staff here speaks English and is very enthusiastic about making sure that you get all your questions answered. The breakfast that we got each morning was not only delicious but also a work of art. We got to eat the most beautiful breakfast we have ever had! About the details of the building itself: We always felt very good about the security here since there was always someone near the front door (always locked) to greet us when we came and went. The Little Squirrel is very conveniently located about a 5-10min walk from the train/bus station - important if you want to take the shuttle bus to the Taroko Gorge National Park. The B&B is a new facility and everything in the room is very clean and works perfectly. It is conveniently located near Zongshan Rd. where you can find the Post Office, restaurants, drug stores, night market, etc. Ask about the artwork on the walls of the lobby and the halls - it was painted by the children of the owner. We have included some photos of the breakfast and a view from our room. If/when we return to Hualien we would definitely insist on staying here.”

The owner stationed himself at the lobby to help out the guests in every possible way. His warmth hospitality was greatly felt. Every time upon returning to the B&B, he would be there to greet the guests where afternoon tea was served. Breakfast was beyond words...healthy nutritious sandwiches with fruits and hot dessert. Big thumbs up!!!!

After arriving by train at Hualien (efficient and scenic way to get there) we were able to easily walk ourselves and our luggage around a couple of blocks to the Little Squirrel. We were warmly greeted and offered coffee which was consitently good throughout the stay. The easy-going staff and owners spoke english well and were incredibly flexible. For instance, one morning we wanted to leave early and they were happy to provide us with breakfast before their normal 7:30-9:00 slot. Breakfast consisted of sandwhiches and fruit (delicious and filling). The bus terminal to get to Taroko National Park and other beautiful surrounds is conveniently located nearby.

Me and my wife visited Hualien during our honeymoon in December 2015 and stayed here for five nights. The reason why we decided to book our accomodation from here was a) the location close to the station and towncenter, and b) the good reviews both here in TripAdvisor and in Agoda pages. And Squirrel B&B definitely didn't let us down.

Squirrel B&B is only 5-10minutes walk away from the Hualien railway station. The motel had few rooms. Our room was the superior double room. Room was spacious and very clean, bed was big and nice. Bathroom was a bit small but ok. There were fridge and TV in room, though TV had only local channels. That didn't bother us though.

Breakfast was simple but delicious: sandwich (different filling every morning), fresh fruits and kisel made out of beans or rice, coffee or tea. Kisel and sandwiches were handmade in kitchen. Everything tasted great and fresh and there were enough food to make carry us through until afternoon. There were no available dinners or other warm meals later in the day but this is a b&b and there are dozens of fantastic restaurants in Hualien.

Squirrel B&B did very good job both in bed and in breakfast. But where it truly excelled and separated from other accomodations was it's fantastic and friendly staff. Owner couple and every one else guided us when ever we needed help or advice. They lend us a book about Hualien when we arrived so we could get to know Hualien better and plan our stay. When we told them we're going to visit Taroko, we got a sturdier breakfast and packed sandwiches for lunch. A couple of times we found ourselves sitting in the lobby sipping coffee and eating selfmade pineapple cakes and chatting with the owners and the staff rather than going to cafes in town. They made us feel like home and sincerely cared about us during our stay.

If I was to say something negative it would be: there's no safe-deposit-box in room. Also staying visitors don't have keys and reception closes at 11 pm so one can't spend a night out.

Their service are truly warm and welcoming. Our booking was non-cancellable or changeable, but however on the day that we were suppose to travel down to Hualien, I had fallen ill and was unable to travel. We call them up and ask if we could shift our whole booking back by a day, they had some room and move us back without any hesitation.

Upon arrival we were offered homemade pineapple tart, cookies and drinks while they check us in and provide various recommendation and orientation around hualien.

The B&B is located within 5-10min walking from the train station so very convenient as all the taiwan tourism shuttle bus is located next to the train station.

Last but not least, on our last day, we had to catch a very early train and breakfast was not available at that time, the owner made us a pack sandwich with more of the LOVELY homemade pineapple tart for the journey. (see picture:))

Only regret was not buying some of those homemade pineapple tart as souvenir as they were way better than those on sale in Taipei.

My wife and I stayed two nights in the Squirrel B&B and felt very spoiled by the owners and their staff. They drove us to the bike rental shop just after we had arrived so we could check the bicycle options there. Besides the free coffee and homemade chocolate candies and pineapple cakes, we also liked the fresh breakfast (which was served at the time we wanted). The room was clean and the bed comfortable. It is conveniently located; close to the train station and also many restaurants are within walking distance. We can recommend this place to anyone.
