The stay costed about 2000 Taiwan dollars for twins queen size double bed. The space was generous. The view was also great.

Something need to be improved:
The cleanliness: tissue was hidden under bed.

ps. The staffs were generally ok. But most hotel staffs in other Taiwan hotels are serving perfectly, the Best’s staff were below average.

We spent two nights as a base for Taroko NP access
Less than 10 minutes walk from the station west exit through the bus stop and diagonally left of the park
The hotel has free bicycles (a must for easy shopping or getting around) we walked everywhere on our first night
The 2 singles room is huge but comfortable clean and tidy
Breakfast was good but not 5 stars
Close to Motorbike hire and laundromat
Don’t be alarmed if your bed shakes while in Hualien earth tremors happen often for less than 5 rector scale enjoy the experience if you are lucky enough😄😄😄

I had booked two rooms for two nights over the Lunar New Year period through trips.com (first mistake). I had then try to book train tickets to Hualien, but due to the LNY crowd, the tickets were sold out 3 weeks before the trip. Long car rides were out since I had young kids who had motion sickness issues.

I went on to try to amend or cancel the stay at Best Hotel (was hoping to change the dates so a friend could take over). Trips.com couldn’t do that as they are third party (hence the mistake). I was advised to contact the hotel.

Emails, FB messages, calls, all led to no replies. Even messages in Chinese were not replied. Till now, two months after the trip, I have not even received a reply from Best Hotel (to at least say they can’t refund me). I just paid for two superior rooms for two nights without even seeing the hotel... best.

Given we only needed a place to sleep in for 2 night while exploring Taroko Gorge and since Hualien does not offer that many great hotels, we chose this hotel.
What a mistake!

First of all, if you are not Chinese/Taiwanese - this hotel is not for you, as it caters only for local guests and is not able to deal with Westerners.

Check in was slow, as the receptionist could not find the reservation.

We were first allocated room 1003.
The room was moldy, stinking and featured 2 old style spring beds, an HD TV with no English channels, filthy walls with bug smeared all over them, an ugly view from the window (the surrounding neighborhood), no safe and a shower with dispensers (no bath tub).
The windows were not soundproofed.

As the room was smelling so badly, after long arguments, we moved to the nearby room - room 1005, which was slightly bigger and less smelly.

The hotels offers a tiny gym, no pool and no money exchange at the reception.
All the flowers and plants in the hotel are plastic and you can literally see the dust on them.

Getting directions to anywhere by the receptionist was excruciating, as they had zero English skills and the Wi-FI was not working at the reception, so no translation apps were available (my mandarin was not enough to understand proper instructions from them).

The hotel's location, while near the train station, is not ideal and you will need a taxi to get into the town's center or to the beach.

Breakfast was absolutely horrible with no Western food at all, and to add insult to injury, all the Asian food was labeled only in Chinese (and of course, none of the waiters spoke English). There were no omelets nor scrambled eggs, just hard boiled eggs.

Bottom line - despite the hotel's name, it worst, rather than best.
Westerners - avoid!

We stayed in Best Hotel for one night. The rooms were very clean and spacious and had almost everything we needed. Location was also walking distance from the train station. Breakfast was provided and there was a decent spread as well! :)

We went there altogether 7 people on the 27th Dec 16. Every room had not got any problem except mine. The room was not clean up at that time so I made a call but the receptionist can not understand the situation. I had to go to lobby to explain but still did not understand. Then, staff come up with me so find out what happened with my room. They were all really enthusiastic at that time to solve the problem with many apologize after they found out.
Apart of that problem, everything's great such as location is great, staff were really helpful, breakfast had varieties to choose.
Enjoy and Happy to stay there.

Just five minutes walk to the station. Room is spacious and clean. Decoration is nice. Lots of receptacle in room! I like it. Overall, it is beyond our expectation.
Ask the hotel, if they can put you away from the group tour. This could be more peaceful. At the time we stay, the Chinese smoked cigarette in his room. The staff come right away and tell him not to smoke in room. The hotel should put big signage in Chinese for this.
