We stayed at the Marshal Hotel in Hualien recently. The hotel has obviously been around for quite a while and is beginning to show its age but the price that we paid reflects this. The best thing about the hotel is the location - close to the market, shops and restaurants. The reception staff were very helpful and assisted us in every way possible. Overall I would say that this is a fairly good hotel to stay if visiting Hualien.

Large hotel, central and minutes from town, clean. Good breakfast offer including Western choices. As holiday tourists we had a list of things to do that the hotel booked, and as we were there at the end of September tours were small and friendly. Touring was the reason for staying here, as we took a trip to Taraoko National Park, and saw some of the most amazing scenery in the world. Thankfully not too many westerners know its there! A ot of concentration in the area on the original Taiwanese people, there are shows you can go to to see traditional dancing and so on. And one of our favourite trips of our three week stay in Taiwan was walking along the river, climbing and jumping into the river, on a half day trip, great fun, made more so by our two guides, great guys who we bribed with beers to take us out that evening to see the rest of the town, well worth it. So the hotel is an ideal base for sightseeing, but if I was here on business I'd stay there too.

A very modern and clean hotel. Good central location. A little old fashion deco in the rooms. A good option for an overnight stay in the city. The room windows were filthy but the rest of the rooms were clean and functional

Stayed here for business trip and found the hotel a good place to stay. Good wifi connection that was quite reliable. Tried both restaurants and both food and service were good. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet in the morning with good choice of foods for anyone's taste.

Front desk personnel spoke decent English and found at least one spoke good English.

Recommend this hotel for my future trip

Perhaps we arrived in a bad time for the hotel staff, no smile, no greetings but strange looks on their faces by all front desk staff and bell boys. The hallways on our floor were so dark because all nights were turned off. Our room was quite room and so I lower the air temperature from 26 to 22'C. After dinner, we come back to the room and it was so warm again and then I noticed the temperature level was switched back to 26'C.

The tour guests from China were awful. Loud, rude, spit, smoking, pushing, cutting lines .... They added to our stay even worse and most uncomfortable.

The services at the hotel need much improvement. Location was excellent and that's the only good part.

Stayed at this hotel on 25th June 2011 with my family of four. The hotel was undergoing renovations. Room are big but dreary. On the night we were there there were tremors and the doors creaked. Bathrooms were very run down. There seems to be bedbugs because I was feeling itchy all over and could not sleep. Staff very friendly though. Send us to the airport.

Breakfast was average. Location wise it's walking distance to the shopping areas and there
is a very popular bao/dumplings shop 2 street away. Very good and cheap food around the area.

Overall nice place. The room was attractive, the location was excellent (within easy walking distance of just about everything). Breakfast was OK, but room was very crowded as the hotel has lots of tour groups and they all converge on the dining room at the same time. The had a pool and sauna. Internet computers available at 20 Taiwan Dollars per hour. The room wasn't as quiet as I would have liked (a little bit of plumbing noise and you could hear doors closing in other rooms).

This is the best hotel in Hualien, the staff are very friendly and helpful. They provided me with very useful travel information. The hotel is at a very convenient location. It has clean and good facilities: Steam bath, Sauna and pool, which can be used at a very reasonable price.
The hotel provided me with transportation which picked me up at the airport and sent me to the airport on time.
The room is basic and big enough, with outdated decoration in the room, but is clean with good ventilation. The television has a lot of channels (both Chinese and English), even if you get bored, you can still have an entertainment.
The staff told me where the laundry service is, which made is easier for me.
The location of the hotel is excellent, just 2 blocks away from town, easy to get to the restaurants and cafes.
At the price Marshal is charging, this is a good bargain.
