I stayed at this place during mid-autumn festival and it is quite packed. The room I got at first was smelly then I asked the staff to change it accordingly. Clean and cozy common area. A bit far from the main train station ~10 mins walk. But close to the eating street "Zhongshan road". They also offer the tour to Taroko with 700TWD ps. Chinese local tour which recommended if you are travelling alone like I did.

Sleeping Boot was one of the most memorable points of my trip in Taiwan! First of all, it was a very affordable find and the hostel is located just 15 min away from the Hualien Train Station. It's a small, cozy hostel that had a very homely vibe. I booked a bed in the 6 bed female dorm, located on the 2nd floor. Sleep quality was great, with good mattresses and pillows, and the weather was lovely. Toilet and showers were located on the same floor, and the shower had good water pressure and temperature (things which I really count as important for a good day's rest!)

But the staff were the real gems! Becky was a wonderful host, very patient to give new guests an orientation of the nearby areas once we arrive. She also recommended me to go for the whale watching tour and firefly-spotting tour, which I could book directly through the hostel, when I had nothing planned for the day. The map of all the local food places was a plus! Though not drawn to scale, I managed to navigate my way to some awesome food finds e.g. Fried Egg Onion Pancake (炸蛋葱油饼), Kaoshiung Duck Noodle, Five Bar Tapioca Balls Dessert. Lena, who was there on work and travel basis, was also so fun to hang out with.. she really gelled the guests together by inviting us to interact at the common area, which gives us the opportunity to make new friends and also to get to know about their local culture. Becky and Lena were absolutely hospitable and amicable with all the guests, and that made for a very wonderful 3 night stay with them!

The hostel is really clean, provided with hi-speed wifi connection, and the host is really helpful in suggesting your plan around the city or Taroko Gorge. I went on a 2-hour northbound bike ride along the coastline as suggested by the host. It doesn't provide you any breakfast but you can just go to a bread seller located on the right side of the hostel in morning for a delicious yet cheap breakfast along with hot soy milk.

Fong, the owner, is one of a kind!!! We were booked at the Sleeping Boot the night that Typhoon Soala hit Hualien. Fong went above and beyond to make sure were taken care of. Such a friendly guy! The facilities are great too...clean and comfortable rooms, hot showers, and a very welcoming, cozy atmosphere. If you're planning a trip to Taroko and need a place to stay in Hualien, Sleeping Boot is the place!!!

I booked a private ensuite room at Sleeping Boot because I was relocating to Hualien to study Mandarin and needed a room while I hunted for an apartment.

Nick and the owner were exceedingly warm and welcoming and helped me search the internet for apartments and then shuttled me around Hualien on a scooter to show me a range of neighborhoods and apartments. Once I chose my favorite, Nick helped me negotiate the lease, written in Chinese, and then helped me move in and do the initial shopping.

You can’t beat Sleeping Boot for comfort, warmth, hospitality and friendliness. Price was fair and room was quiet, clean and comfortable.

Congrats to Sleeping Boot for creating a great hostel in Hualien, Taiwan’s attractive gateway to Taroko and the East Rift Valley!

We are a couple who traveled many countries and different places.
It took only few minutes after
arriving sleeping boot to understand that this is more then just a regular hostel

The warm welcome, cleaning, cozy livingroom, the well suited kitchen, the great cofee, the clean shower, the super effective laundry service, the big mattres, the best wifi and above all the big smile and help from the proffesinal staff, all those made our stay (for 4 nights and then 1 night) to an unforgetable exporience.

Thank you so much nick and sheen for hosting us and helping

We truely reccomand anyone in hialien city to give this place a try

Be aware that once you entered, it will be hard to leave.

This hostel gather the essence of a hostel: a good location, a clean space, a nice atmosphere to meet people, and staff giving a lot of ideas and clues to enjoy your travel.
The hostel is 15 minutes from the train station. Everything is clean, for each bed you have a light and electric plugs, and you have lockers.
And the most important: the staff is really kind and helpful. Thanks to Phong, Nick and Paul!
This hostel is the place to be to fully enjoy the Taroko National Park and the area of Hualien.
