On our first ever visit to Taiwan, we were in search of a peaceful retreat in the mountains, and Fuyam Tourist Home was all that and more. Host Brian was prompt and helpful in all our communications prior to booking and recommended us the Liyuan room, a charming, spacious upper unit in a two-storey block. A driver was hired to fetch us from Taoyuan Airport, and as part of a tour package with the minsu he took us to Daxi Old Town and Xiaowulai falls on the way up to Lalashan. On the second day, we visited Shenmu and other sights. Highlights of the minsu stay: the beautifully landscaped surroundings, the mountain view from our room and a truly outstanding breakfast and dinner with (other guests have also said this) no repeat dishes. Take tea in the tea lodge or read and relax in the lounge. Brian, Zhong Ma, Zhong Pa and the staff are genuinely welcoming and will make you feel right at home. We had a wonderful three days in perfect, sunny, 18degC weather.

The quality and variety of the food is enough of a reason to stay here! The air is so refreshing, and the sound of the water nearby so calming, I felt more relaxed than I've been in years within minutes of being here. These are the kindest hosts, and the scenery took my breath away day after day. Can't wait to go back.

I went back to Fuyam Tourist Home for the 3rd time this year. Fuyam had given me great memories in 2011 when I first came here as a woofer (work in exchabfe for food and accommodation). And since then, I never fail to reconnect back to them whenever i can. Fuyam is different from other 民宿mainly because of the 人情味in this home. You can feel the homely feeling in this place. The zhong family are always so warm and caring. Food is fantastic and the menu was carefully planned to cater to different groups of guests. I love the serenity, the peace at the home. Highly recommend those who loves nature and quiet place to recharge.

The stay at Fuyam was excellent in every aspect. Beautiful and tranquil environment that looks like a page out of a pictursque storybook. Lovely owners Brian and his parents Mr and Mrs Chung, as well as the helper Ah Lian, who provided warm hospitality and see to your needs. Mrs Chung is an excellent cook who dished out nutritious and mouth watering meals! The 3 hr travel up Lala Shan was gruelling but it's worth the journey when you experience Fuyam. The day trip to the Cypress Forest Reserve was enjoyable due to the friendly and helpful driver guide Mr Png. Overall, I wish I could stay there forever and will definitely return again!

Our family of 6 (including my elderly parents and 2 young kids) stayed in the minsu for 4 nights. The Chungs made sure all our needs were taken care of. Every little detail was thought thru. E.g the mom would think of cooking us different dishes for each meal. The Dad drove us down to the fish farm just to show us around. Bryan, the son, helped cleaned my dad’s wound when he fell, and the Chungs lent us a waking stick for my dad! The minsu was clean and basic but you can’t ask for more. No aircon in the rooms but the rooms are naturally cooling at night! The kids loved playing by the stream down the minsu while my parents relaxed in their rooms. No regrets booking the trip. Though the windy roads to Lala shan made my face turn green.

After a twisty mountain road, some 30 kilometers, we finally ended up in a valley surrounded by forested mountains. Everything was great; our little house with a terrace; the home made food, fresh and tasty, in the restaurant (to be ordered upfront), the view of mountains and a stream below, a common area with a room for coffee and tea making and a terrace to enjoy nature and lovely people who really took good care of us. We couldn't do much of walking due the rain and unfortunately had only two nights. We could stay indefinite.

We made time to come together to bring our Mother out for a trip to the Taiwan mountains - Lala 啦啦山。We chose Fuyan Resort 福緣民宿 because one of my sisters had a great experience 3 years ago and she wanted us to experience it. Indeed, 不枉此行!it is a worthwhile trip. The resort is nice and cooling, rooms were clean and wifi was great. I could get connected to work anytime and attend to some critical matters. Of course, food was great and I even thought of going back to learn culinary skills from Mrs Chung, the 老闆娘 lady boss. The taste was impeccable and the mix of ingredients was perfect especially the yam porridge 咸粥 for breakfast. Besides, we were entertained by Mr Chung and his son Bryan after dinner with tea and coffee and the gentlemen chatted away about Taiwan politics and Chinese history - Men’s talk. Our tour guide, Edward Wu was excellent, never seen one so well-versed with Taiwan history, even Layla mountains and it’s Taiya tribal stories. He brought us to the mountains to see trees of 20 -2700 years, amazing! Nature lives on, much much longer than human beings. We also visited the Taiya homes after crossing the long bridge. In addition, this strong gentleman served my Mother so well pushing her around in her wheelchair and let her experience the mountain walk. Incredible. I must say another experience with the dog. There are 3 dogs in Fuyan and one of them “Lai Fook” 来福 was so friendly and likes to run around and make friends with people. I have phobia for animals so the owner, Bryan tied him up. I felt bad. When I walked passed LF, it made a growling noise, so angry with me I think. Before I depart, I went to say goodbye to LF and it looked away from me. I said sorry and that it can have its freedom now. With the good experience, I will certainly make a return trip especially during the fruit season and a better weather to see the clouds formation 雲海 from Sep to Nov.

Our family and relatives chose to stay here for 5 days 4 nights and we should have stayed longer! The cool, clean, crisp mountain air really refreshes our minds and bodies. We love waking up to freshly prepared breakfast. We then start the day with a variety of activities, such as an educational walk in the divine trees park (trees are over 1000 years old), a hike in the mountains, fishing at the resort, visit to spectacular waterfalls and other interesting old streets. After the day's activity, we looked forward to returning to the resort where we savor the home cooked 7-course dinner. During our 4 nights stay, all the breakfast and dinner courses were different and unique. The resort owners (Chung family) are such wonderful hosts. They go out of their way to share interesting experiences running the resort, the farm and their secret to good health. The driver/tour guide (Edward Wu) was extremely knowledgeable about plants, trees, Taiwan geography, politics, etc. He is the best guide we have seen. Our group, young and old, have a truly wonderful experience in Fu-yam.

The journey up the mountain road and down to Fuyam turned out to be quite a breeze. In fact we enjoyed the various stopovers from the time we left Taoyuan Airport. The knowledgeable driver cum guide, Mr Png, provided by Fuyam brought us to the United Nations of Tomato, Shihmen Reservoir & Xiao Wulai Skywalk before reaching Fuyam. Being a city dweller, we loved the surrounding of Fuyam. It was both a relaxing and refreshing experience. We loved walking and forest bathing in the surrounding of Fuyam and the Lalashan forest reserve. It was amazing to be able to see sacred cypress tree as old as 2800! Overall, it was a wonderful gateaway without losing contact with the outside world with the availability of cable TV and wifi in the cottage. We stayed in the room, OuFong SianSie, overlooking the forest. As reported by others, the place is comfortable, clean and the meals provided were fabulous. We hope to be back during the peach season...
